posted a message on How can I create random objects?

Oh, you are right. I missunderstood. I thought it should be created as a trigger, for some reason. I will try to make it as a trigger.

    1. I want to change the "point to spawn at" to a dummy unit on the map. If I place 5 dummy units on the map, the trigger will generate a unit at the location of each dummy unit. How can this be done?

    2. Let say I add a total of 100 values. If value 0,1,2 spawns a unit, and value 4-99 spawns nothing, that will mean that there is a 3% chance to spawn a unit, right? If so, will that cause a lot of lag?

(Cause I want to have a chance that the trigger spawns nothing at all at a dummy unit.)

posted a message on How to make a type of units move at random?

I am trying to create a trigger that makes all Zerglings on the map attack move to a random direction every 10 seconds. The result will be that Zerglings attack moves in an irregular pattern. (The trigger starts when the game starts.)

    How can this be done?

This could potentially be done in multiple ways. Here's the best. Create a unit with a behavior that triggers an Initial Effect (or an Expire Effect with a duration if you don't want itnto go off right away). This effect should be a Set, with three effects, each one a Create Unit that spawns a different unit. Then check the flag on the Set for "Random Effect". There might also be a setting to tell it how many effects from the set to execute, I forget. Then simply give the behavior to the spawner unit and place the unit somewhere on the map.

To make the unit vanish afterwards, add a Final Effect to the hehavior that executes a Damage effect. In the effect, flag "Kill Unit" "No Kill Credit" and set the death type to what yoy want (probably Remove).

Thanks. Can you explain it step by step or more in detail? What shall the Event, Condition and Action be?

posted a message on How to make a God in my map?

One player plays as a "God". That player will be able to spawn units/items/objects anywhere on the map. He will also have total vision and is the player who "creates" parts of the map. The other players will only control a few units who tries to survive in the world.

Perhaps can "God" be a hidden building or something, just to have the abilities with unlimited range. I used to do so in the TFT editor, but maybe there are more efficent ways in Sc2.

    How can this be done?

posted a message on How can I create random objects?

I want to put a "random generator" in my map. When the game starts, there is 33% chance that the generator spawns a Zergling, 33% to spawn a marine and 33% to spawn something else.. Then the generator vanishes..

    How can this be done?

posted a message on How to make a unit attack ONLY it´s target?

I want to make my marine really stupid. It shall not attack anything at all unless ordered to do so.

If I hit the A button and attack move to target location the unit will only move there. It shall only attack if I target an enemy unit.

    How can this be done?

What does the formation value in gameplay data indicate? I know that it means how easy units group up, but no mather if I type 12 or 480 or whatever, the units behave the same way. What does the value indicate?

What is Aquire Leash radius and Aquire leash reset Radius?

posted a message on Make reactor produce 1 extra unit for free

I am struggling to learn the editor and I am doing some experiments in order to try to learn more. Right now I try to make a reactor produce it´s extra unit for free. There is no need for an extra queue. All it means is that every unit that is produced from the barrack/factory/starport becomes two when finished. You pay for one, you get one extra of it´s kind for free.

I can not get it to work really.

Any suggestions, hints, tricks or ideas to share? How would you do this?

posted a message on Must units be duplicated or created?

    @b0ne123: Go

But on some units there are several of them in the list, and one of them is green (the one I´ve changed), but many of them can not be modified. I think the stalker has 3 icons of itself in the data editor when I search "stalker". If I make a change, a fourth one appears which is green.

    What is all this about?

posted a message on Must units be duplicated or created?

If I search for marine and for example changes it´s life value, the unit becomes a green copy in the list underneath the original marine.

Is that enought to make it a copy, or do I need to select each unit and choose Copy + paste?

posted a message on Make units not clump up!

There seems to be no difference if I have for example 12, 50 or maximum value in the formation diameter (mixed) cause they seem to behaive quite similar. It is a big difference between the standard value of 4, and everything higher, but other then that everything seems to be the same..

What does the value actually mean and indicate? (formation diameter)

if its just melee and hp and dmg. edit the existing units

    Quote from arubaru304: Go

i'm with bone. if you are going to create a (custom) melee map i guess you are not going to use the original ones, so can do the "minor changes" over them

But will this cause problems with the map? Errors and bugs etc?

I try to create everything from scratch. It goes like this:

    I make a custom marine. (I follow a tutorial.)

I Add unit, base it on marine. (Everything is the same) I go to actors, make a new actor for the marine and I edit the token, art etc. (Everything is the same) I test the unit ingame and it works fine. Moves and attacks and everything.

I create a custom weapon named "Marine attack." I want to change the damage for the attack so I create a new effect called "Marine attack damage" I create a new model for the attack. (Exactly like the usual marine model attack thing.) I create a new button, which is exactly like the original, I add it to the barracks train ability, which is also new. (And the barrack is new) Etc..

Everything is just the same. I just create what already exists, except for the damage I change. But there is so much that needs to be edited!

Is there any of these steps I can skip, to make things a bit easier? Feels like for every change I make two other changes must be made also.. :(

It would be horrible if I created a custom melee map just to find out that everything is screwed because I did not do it right from the beginning..

posted a message on Must units be duplicated or created?

I will mostly do minor changes to the units, like their HP or attack damage etc.

In that regard, what "method" is the most effective one to use?

Copy, duplicate or create new unit?

In all cases it seems like I must add models, actors and effects from scratch to the new unit. Would be nice to save that effort if there is a more effective method to use for making small changes to the units?

I advise to copy them and not dupe. Altering the originals causes problems with their data becoming linked to each other as well as several other bugs. While duping has issues with actor fields (especially the target ones of events).

But if I do copy everything including the workers, when I run the game in SC2 and players select races in the melee menu, the game will start with the original 6 workers. If they are copied and edited as well, will it be a hard issue to fix so the game starts with the 6 "new" workers?

If I want to make a custom melee map, where I change the data of the existing units, do I need to duplicate them or add new ones?

Would it not be more easy to just change the data of the existing units?
