You can cheese some of the Blizzard maps too with Drop Pods and shit. The point is if people are determined to cheese a map with some lame strategy and deprive themselves of the fun, no one is standing over their shoulder and saying "stop it". I used to make 20 Scouts and kill Aldaris in Brood War up the side of the map. Temper expectations.

An exploit would be like Mission 15 when I was able to bypass sections that were meant to be unpassable by invulnerable rocks until a specific criteria was met. An exploit is not making flying units and blitzing to the objective - a strategy you can use on many official maps too when the tech becomes available.

Yeah. The thing is, at this point I think I have to let those things go. Given the tech you have available now, I can't prevent every single cheesy strategy.

I'll just repost what our benevolent mapmaker has already said about this. Implementing some bizarre mechanic just isn't worth the time in many cases. If you want to bypass the challenge and intent of the map, no one really cares unless it is clearly a widespread exploit. If you can build a crap ton of Banshees or Battlecruisers, then you probably could have won with another strategy anyway.

I'm glad others are willing to continue this. If there are any mods that could get this up on the front page like Moz did, that would be great. I had the original BWTT idea, but it was very reliant on having him sticky posts and change the Front Page Recent Events links. Ultimately, the # of participants dwindled so I think this less frequent format is more beneficial.

I'd like to make videos in the future, but I've been living off of a backlog of videos (besides that retrospective I just made) lately because I've been very busy at work and holiday travel is upcoming.

A few people have asked me to play stuff simultaneously with Mass Recall. I don't really have time to make even more videos so, in the face of this, my tentative plan is to halt Mass Recall after the third campaign and take a few weeks to play through some backlog. Current plan is to play Hammer of Dawn, Annihilation, and Marauders before resuming the Brood War campaigns of Mass Recall. We'll see, I may or may not do this.

This is very unfortunate for MasterKD. YouTube really needs to straighten these processes out. It's entirely up to the claimant on how ridiculous the claim ends up being... they could have simply requested the videos be removed, or had them blocked in all countries as opposed to forcefully removing them and therefore incurring copyright strikes. Legally, they are in the right though and I suppose YouTube cannot stop copyright owners from enforcing as they wish, but it is an ethical dilemma in the age of digital media.

YouTube is entirely claimant focused because it has to be, legally, even though it's bad for them if more more content gets taken down and they know that. I had a background song get claimed in on of my campaign videos that was not valid; there was a song there that was probably copyrighted, but the song claimed was not the one in the video so I contested it. When you contest, all the claimant has to do it click the equivalent of "Nah, that's the song" and then it's reinstated. If I continued to contest, I'd get an automatic strike and theoretically would have to take it to court (which NO ONE will do over one claim). Overall a ridiculous system for a claim that wasn't even accurate.

Even if these Visual Novel claims are legit, and they probably are, there was no opportunity to take down the videos before a channel nuke, which is completely ridiculous. Even if bots were reuploading these constantly, there are settings to catch them without entirely eliminating the real folks doing it by blocking the video, giving a warning, and then they can remove them. The bots would then get taken down and real people can keep running... this seems like elementary stuff here but YouTube is all about aggregates so I assume certain scenarios just aren't accounted for :( The claims system takes the approach that every infringement is malicious spam trying to abuse monetization (again, at an aggregate level), and a lot surely is, though I wish they pulled a bit more for creators to give them an opportunity to fix mistakes instead of getting IP banned...

I don't particularly want to be a mod or responsible for anything needing done at a specific time on any online forum because I realistically would flake out 50% of the time. Best wishes to Moz with whatever hobby is engaging to him these days :)

Yeah, Moz is the only one who can update the front page link and sticky posts. We could do them ad-hoc without those things, but I feel they sort of made the whole point of the exercise! I assume he's been busy, so we can wait. This time of year in general seems to be quite busy for many folks. I know school has started and, from a business perspective, end of Q3/beginning of Q4 is always the busiest time at work for me.

Re: creator interviews, yes absolutely! The Oracle made a soft promise to me in the past that he would come chat with me once the LotC remake is released, the lead SCU creator agreed to come chat with me (plus Deltron and Azothan presumably!), and I have a great rapport with Telenil so I'm hopeful he and/or Jones will want to have another chat about Mass Recall.

I'm interested in talking with any creator as long as they are comfortable with their English speaking and are willing to be recorded!

    @deltronLive: Go

I think you, Azothan, and I should talk about some ideas on tutorial videos. I was going to boot up Prologue 1 and make short, digestible videos on the topics you mentioned, but it would mostly be me winging it so it would definitely be a good idea if we collaborated.

I talk pretty fast, and think that's an okay baseline to use for text speed as everyone else would be reading in their head. I didn't have any issue with the text flow personally, but, then again, it's based off of my personal reading speed haha. Ultimately, it's always going to be a bit unnatural because viewing dialogue alongside a watchable cinematic won't come across like a normal, audible conversation. It's certainly a struggle as some are slow readers and/or non-native English speakers/readers so there's no way to accommodate for everyone.

There's a suspension of disbelief that goes along with a lack of voice acting - and voice acting is a rare beast these days because of the cost of finding actual talent. I don't expect anyone to utilize voice acting and, if they do, it's an added perk, not a baseline most should be expected to follow.

Been awhile since I updated! I do this mostly for my own reference, but in case anyone else is curious:

    • Mass Recall is my primary SC2 series
    • StarCraft Universe VODs secondarily on some days
    • more HeptaCraft casts and tournaments
    • miscellaneous campaign maps that flesh out series I've already started such as Wrath of the Tal'Darim, Hammer of Dawn, Marauders, Annihilation, etc on some days (again, alongside Mass Recall)
    • looking into the WC1 and WC2 remakes in WC3
    • Bob Levels in SC1

Everyone needs to try StarCraft Universe if they haven't. I'm going to try to set some time aside to make instructional videos for beginners who may struggle with common things that confused me a bit such as how the gear system generally works. I also planned on starting a retrospective series on campaigns that I've played in the past that would be a 10 min rundown to advertise to people not familiar with the custom campaign scene in general. I wrote a script for Crimson Moon and have since gotten very busy with both other video series and my work life IRL. Anyway, it's ambitious to say I'll definitely do this stuff, but I'd eventually like to.

    Re: "Not feeling any passion"

The amount of work it takes to make any functional map in the most general sense conveys passion due to the amount of sheer time and willpower it takes to learn the tool. Regardless of your opinion of the final product, every completed map contains passion.
