Apparently having a baseline, functioning government is leftist in your sci-fi wild west!  This also sounds like a spiritual prequel to the Perfect Soldiers universe where there is no government and giant, nebulous corporations mandate how people live with no oversight to their moral hazard.

FYI, We'll probably we starting this sometime near the release of SC:RM

Thank you for your input.  This will not be more than a few months because it is a light-hearted contest, not a call for the best maps ever to exist.  The scope needs to be clear and we can't just let a deadline creep out for months and months and months.
We're between 2 or 3 months right now and 3 is on the table mostly so that anyone who finds out about it late can still jump in.  RTC was 3 months and a lot of folks appeared to pick it up late and submit right near the end so mimicking that seems appropriate.

I'd say playable from start to finish.  That doesn't mean it has to be perfect, but there can't be anything gamebreaking.  Thanks for pointing this out, I will add it to any official rules we put out.

Single Player Map Contest (IN PLANNING)

Hi everyone! I'm Jayborino, but my friends call me Justin... probably because that's my real name and it would be weird if they called me by an online username. Anyway, you may be familiar with my YouTube channel where I showcase boatloads of single player content across Blizzard's RTS games.

Two other community members, Pr0nogo and DeltronLive, and I are looking to bring about some cross pollination of these communities around our love for some good, ol' fashioned single player content.  Creators from any of the three games can submit!  We are really just looking to gauge interest and participation here at first with something more official coming later if we think enough folks will join in. These are all early ideas as we're looking for feedback at this point and we'll add more of the semantics later.

If you are interested in participating, please let us know here in the thread or by PM, thank you!!

    Contest Rules and Conditions

    • Submissions must be playable in StarCraft 1, StarCraft 2, or Warcraft 3.  To be clear, for ONE of these games.
    • Submissions must be single player only. Mission 1 of a possible campaign, a stand alone scenario map, or Arcade-y type maps which could include virtually any style of gameplay.
    • Submissions must be new maps, started at the time of the contest
    • Submissions must include instructions for how to play, whether it be in offline mode for StarCraft 2, on Battle.net, through the custom campaign interface of WC3, etc.
    • One submission per person/team.
    • This is still in brainstorming phases, we're looking for any feedback that could make this appeal to more contributors. We want the barrier of entry to be fairly low. See judging section below for answers to inevitable questions of imbalanced cross-game judging.

    Prizes

      • Depending on # of submissions per game, we may have a winner per game, then an overall winner of those three
      • Prizes may depend on which game the winning map is for or perhaps just winner's choice. Please leave feedback on what below may incentivize you to participate.
      • Bragging rights; the thrill of winning; good exposure to my viewerbase; SC: Remastered key/s, SC2 co-op and/or collectibles DLC; WoW expansion or time card; StarCraft Risk Board Game; attention from your friendly, neighborhood senpai Jayborino

    Judges

    • Jayborino
    • DeltronLive
    • Pr0nogo (unless maybe he submits)
    • YouTube viewer polls

    Judging/Voting Criteria

    • Deltron and I have extensive content on our channels and our experience hopefully instills some level of trust when we say that fun factor really is #1 in terms of possible judging. I play each of these games and do not really prefer one over the other. We understand that, for example, the SC2 Galaxy Editor opens the door for many more possibilities, but can also be much more time consuming, so there are many balancing factors that we're very aware of.
    • We'll nail the judging criteria down in stone if this becomes official and are looking for feedback to again make this as appealing to creators as possible to participate.

Mission length felt absolutely fine to me and did not come across as too long nor short.

Had a nice time with Map 19!

Very minor quality of life things with Overseers, can you move the command card Overseer morph button to the bottom left?  If you click it too fast, then you accidentally spam cancel the morphing with it in the bottom right.  Also, I noticed Overlord/Overseer speed was not available for upgrade and it would have been surprisingly helpful!

I/We appreciate your hard work on this project even in the face of Blizzard tacitly putting editor stopping blocks in your way constantly.

I'm glad to see that you are thinking about planning in an iterative way.  Specifically, keeping the art and modelling separate.  Many map foundations could be created and be entirely playable, with visual enhancements that do not necessarily change the gameplay added on after.

I've seen a lot of furious hard work done on assets in the past for very ambitious projects that are then abandoned when the scope of actual terraining/triggering (the real meat of a map, if you will) begins to take shape.  Working on the real meat first, and adding art, voice acting, more complex data editing, etc. later seems fundamental to continued progress and motivation.  I'm not a map maker, but I'm quite familiar with development methodologies and have occasionally spouted this gripe in some of videos here and there.

PS is a good example where you didn't really use any custom models - you had the Nova model from the editor and gave her some fancy abilities.  At any point, you could change the look of the model and, while it may add to the overall visual experience, it doesn't require fundamental changes to the map.  This is why I always think about terrain and triggers first, then data, then visual assets - don't be afraid to use default models to just get started.  I don't plan specific, timestamped edits before having the video footage.

Separately, is this meant to be in a different in-game universe than Perfect Soldiers?

Anyone having cinematic issues with this map specifically?  I'd like to play it, but wanted to check first.

Just basing off of download #'s at least.  If an anonymous someone plays something great in their first go around, there's a chance to get them to return, make an account, and start commenting.

I think the point though is that any one of the hundreds of players could do this, but no one does.  I have a channel with hundreds of hours of feedback, so I don't really feel like writing up more of it.  I don't mean that flippantly, rather this is a community problem, not something one devoted person is going to fix necessarily.
