I'm not denying there are cases of the Hyperion model being used for Minotaur classes (and vice-versa), but I don't think all the changes between the Behemoth and the Minotaur are just art evolution, as there are a number of design elements different between the Minotaur in game model and concepts and the Behemoth in game models and concepts.
All I'm saying is that you can't identify what class is what in SC2, so even if that's true you have no way of proving it. Again:
Story mode - both Hyperion (Behemoth-class) and the minotaurs use the same model.
In-game - both Hyperion (Behemoth-class) and the minotaurs use the same model.
Only the Hurricane & the Loki have custom in-game models and we don't know what class those are.
The same can be said of the Marine example - the Marines in SC2 are a more recent model of armour in universe than the ones used in BW. Tychus throws some confusion in as his suit of armour is presumably of Guild War era.
But it's not. Both of the pictures I linked are confirmed to be CMC-300s. That's my point.
However, this can be explained (in a meta sense) as the original version of the SC2 Intro was of a generic Marine in a barracks suiting up, as opposed to the intro version which is Tychus in New Folsom Prison, and rather than remodel the entire very complex Marine armour, they left it as it was.
Raynor has SC2-style armor in the New Gettysburg cinematic as well when he talks to Mengsk. As for Tychus, what makes you think Mengsk gave him his original suit back?
So yes, there are some examples of anachronistic model uses, but there are very clear design changes beyond simple design evolution in universe. Another example of which being the Siege tank which is also a newer model in universe, or the Firebat which is very different to SC1 but is again more than just art evolution as it's an entirely different type of suit to the BW version.
Siege Tank - Yes I agree
Firebat - No, both SC1 and SC2 explicitly state that the suit type is a CMC 660, and yet they're different. The firebat is part of the art upgrade. Or, you can just assume that the SC2 firebat is a "second generation" suit like the SC wiki does.
Long post short however, in regards to the intention of the OP of this thread, the SC1 Behemoth Battlecruiser and SC2 Minotaur do, IMO have designs varied enough to be distinct in game.
Right, but as far as we know now it's all due to the SC1-SC2 art upgrade and can be equally applied to zealots & zerglings if we want. If the OP wanted a real concrete answer he would have to go with what we have in wings of liberty - that the models between the two are exactly the same.
The real problem here is that SC lore is a total mess, but you don't want to get me started on that. :P
