    Hello, to help keep myself motivated and wanting to share some of my excitement, I decided to open this thread.

    GOALS

    • To make units more interesting by giving them an ability that requires micro, rebalancing the unit, or increasing the utility of the unit when it cannot fill its primary role (e.g. the corruptor cannot attack ground units)
    • Remove as many "boring" upgrades as possible and build them into the units (e.g. a +range upgrade and giving it to the unit by default)
    • Increase and reward micro-style play

    THE FUTURE

    So far, I have only had to add three Brood War units (Firebat, Goliath, and Lurker), but I decided to change my goal of including super units so I could spend more time on making quality abilities for the units already designed and fairly balanced within the game. I am very much not trying to create a Brood War mod (see Starbow for this) or a melee mod that focuses on macro/minor tweaks to units (see Flowcraft). My intention is to only change one macro mechanic in the game at the moment. So far, I have planned for over 50 brand new abilities and at least 79 ability changes on units (when reusing/moving an ability to a new unit).

    Cooldown - Link was the answer, but I could not find my abilities. I just needed to click Add and put in the ID of the ability. Thanks for the tips!

    Nope, they are not multi-level. I will explain two of the abilities that are not proccing.

    Ability 1: the unit uses x amount of life to recover y amount of shields. I am using a modify unit effect that recovers the shields and tie it into the ability where I have the cost as x amount of life.

    Ability 2: I am using an effect that spawns 2 banelings. I have nothing else in the ability that accounts for cost than my attempt at a cooldown.

    I DO have one ability that is multi-level, and I can get the cost going, but I cannot get the cooldown to proc. It's the Mothership recall ability.

    Problem one is solved.

    My second problem is that, when I uproot my spines, I cannot reroot them using the Behavior: Built On. I have it so that it builds on Creep Tumors. My other solution was to create a dummy unit that is exactly like the Spine Crawler, but it crashes my game every time I try to place the dummy unit for some reason.

    I have been creating new abilities, and they are not triggering cooldowns when I fill out the Cooldown - Time Use field. I have tried to Link the cooldown of the ability to itself, but I can never find my abilities in that list. I could not figure out what to search for to find a solution to this on the forum. Other than that, my abilities work completely fine outside of the cooldown issue. The effects that I am using deal with Creating Units and Modifying Units.

    Thanks for the help, DrSuperEvil. So, for my first problem, I made the change so that Creep Tumors can be built anywhere which works fine. An issue that I am running into is that there is 1x1 collision while the Creep Tumor is building. I have tried to check "Disable Collision" and uncheck "Ignore Collision" within the Creep Colony - Burrow Ability, and it has not changed the effect. Do I need to change something with an Actor to fix it?

    For my second problem, I changed the Pathing Footprint and Pathing Footprint - Placement to Footprint 2x2 No Collision. I can now build Spine Crawlers in the place of Creep Tumors, but now units can walk through them, and I can root as many Spines as I want on top of each other. I can lose the unit collision, but stacking Spines would not be good. Do I need to create a new type of footprint, or is this the only way that I will be able to solve the problem?

    I am trying to allow my creep tumors to morph into buildings. Because the tumor takes up 1x1 square, what is the best way to allow them to morph into a Zerg building? Right now, I have the buildings added to my command card but cannot place them due to the 1x1 square.

    What do I need to change to allow creep tumors to be built on normal (non-creep) ground? My Burrowed Creep Tumor and Creep Tumor units do not have the "On Creep" or "Zerg Building Not on Creep" which, from what I have read, is the way to do it with most Zerg buildings. I am assuming because Creep Tumors are a Creep generator that there might be an issue.

    If this is one of your first large projects, do Ulduar and get a feel for it. Get something under your belt, learn stuff, and really know what it takes to ship. If this isn't one of your first large projects, go for the RPG.

    Still, I love Ulduar so I would like to see that.

    Hello, everyone. I am here to find a few DATA people who know how to create abilities in the editor. StarCraft is an awesome game, but the units can sometimes be a little boring, and I wish I had more buttons to press. I play on US servers, but I am in Thailand time zone (work out here until mid-December). I can be contacted through e-mail, [email protected] , and I have Skype for instant messaging. I am available from 8 PM to 9:30 AM. I will be doing what the rest of the team will be doing on the project: keeping track of work and creating abilities. I am the only person working on the project at the moment but would like to have a few join me. More about what I'd like to do...

    The Purpose (A bit long-winded, but I am excited!)

    Using already created melee maps (community or Blizzard), add abilities to units so they have greater utility in late game scenarios, experience greater diversity in army compositions, and a reason to have a unit at any point in time in the game.

    The goal is to introduce abilities to nearly every unit and make them fun for different types of players. Unless something is completely broken, fun will take precedence over balance.

    It also is not fun when you have spent resources on a unit, and they are useless later on because of a tech switch. Instead of having “empty supply,” abilities can add some utility to what might have been a useless unit. Also, I feel like most of the passive bonuses are very boring and will be built into units. Waiting for 90 seconds so that you can have +1 range isn’t that exciting to most.

    How It Is Different

    I want this mod to be about making the most of the units already in StarCraft 2 with interesting abilities and new ways to micro units. I am bringing back three Brood War units because I felt like they filled roles needed by that race, but this should NOT feel like an extension of/sequel to Brood War (see Kabel’s awesome Starbow mod if you want that). This mod is supposed to be StarCraft 2.5.

    What I Have & Racial Goals

    I have written out all of the ability names, tooltips, effects (what they should accomplish in raw numbers), cooldown/energy cost, tech required to research an ability, what building used to research an upgrade, the cost to research an upgrade, and the amount of time to research an upgrade.

    Protoss: make them more durable to justify cost, make them more mobile, better scouting. I am creating 22 new abilities, reworking (taking a spell already in the game and giving it to another unit/tweaking it) 2 abilities, and the super unit will be the Mothership.

    Zerg: reward good Creep spread, faster/slightly more durable units, more micro. I am creating 22 new abilities, reworking 3 abilities, and the super unit will be the Leviathan.

    Terran: better mech, better bio, more harassment options. I am creating 20 new abilities, reworking 5 abilities, and the super unit will be the Odin.

    The above numbers are probably going to change because some of my ideas might go a bit too far, but it should be around there. For the most part, what I want is set in stone, but I welcome feedback if something just won’t work in the game.

    What I Need

    Looking for anyone enthusiastic who has enough skills to create effects, behaviors, buttons, and attach them all together with some animations and able to create upgrades. It would also be helpful to be able to add data to Requirements and Building Command Cards, but I can do all that if need be. This will not require any skinning, modeling, animating, etc. I want to use the resources already provided in the editor. I am really fresh and learning so, if you are too, that is fine.

    Protoss Most of my Protoss unit abilities can be completed using simple behaviors. There are a few abilities that might not be possible or are out of my depth at the moment.

    Zerg I am not good at morphing units at the moment so I will need assistance with that and morphing one building. There are four units I need help morphing. Also, there is a possible animation/linking issue with moving a present ability to a new unit.

    Terran Only one or two challenging abilities here, but Terran should be the easiest to complete.

    How We Will Work

    All progress will be kept in a log in Google Docs. Each person will be assigned a font color so that everyone knows who wrote what is there. If Google Docs is not preferred, we can move to a Wiki format. Any communication will be done through e-mail. Each new issue will be a new e-mail thread and resolved within that thread. I am not in the States and have poor internet at the moment so voice/cams on Skype aren’t an option (for now!). Each person will be assigned units so that we do not have overlap. For sharing we will use a Dropbox account specific to the project.

    Personally, I am hoping to contribute at least seven hours a week to the project, but it will probably be more. At my current rate, I am creating around one ability semi-correctly in an hour so, in the coming weeks, I should be able to build near full-fledged abilities in that amount of time. I am requesting assistance because it is more fun working with a team, and there are other more skilled mapmakers out there.

    Let me know if interested. Any feedback is good too (like that I am crazy and asking for too much ;p).

    TLDR: Need kick ass DATA people to help make kick ass abilities for (mostly) SC2 units in the map editor.
