A lot of the game balance will be in the hands of the heroes and the skill of the players playing them. If a higher level hero gets cocky and runs off by himself to farm and gets killed by 2 heroes on the other team, those heroes will be rewarded with lots of experience points.
The map will be non linear, think of the lanes and forest in dota if you have played it.
Blizzard probably won't care if you download the client and use their map editor. You won't get access to the game or be able to play any maps without an account. Kinda worthless to play AI over and over again.
Personally I care more about familiarizing myself with the editor then online play at this point! So this is great news to me.
Herocraft is a mix of kings and knights + hydra ranchers + Zone control from SC1. Two players control bases and armies with auto spawning upgradeable creeps. The map is large with many expansion hubs that when taken over spawn more of your teams creeps. These expansions early game are taken over with hostile creep to provide income and experience points for hero units. Each team will have 4 player slots for hero players. Heroes are played in a third person perspective controlled with “WASD” and are specially designed units picked before the start of the match that can level up, have unique skills, upgrade and can buy powerful items.
This game is still in the planning and early development stages. I'm vary interested in hearing others opinion on this map idea, or even discussion about those awesome custom maps from back in the day and what made them fun.
I'm looking for people who want to beta test the game when it's playable over battle.net

Sadly there are limited player slots, So it will feel like diablo when joining a game.
The feature to link maps together will allow you to make massive amounts of content / expansions though so that's cool =D.
Do you plan to make scripted boss encounters?

The editor needs support for easy to enable good looking skyboxes for 3rd person and FPS games.

I don't think hacked tilesets will be an issue. Can't you just turn the camera angle and bam, you don't have to work in an isometric environment.

What an awesome idea. Murloc race would be cool to =D
