posted a message on Life of a Civilian Map [Interest, Discussion]

I'm thinking about making a LoaC map. I'm totally experienced enough to do it myself, however I was hoping for some input before and if I attempted to make this.

Mainly, I'm looking for input in the following areas:

    • Units? In SC1, a firebat or Infested Kerrigan could be passed off as a woman and a zergling a kid, however I don't feel that those units would be ideal for SC2...
    • Terrain? I'd like to be able to capture the feeling of entering a building.
    • Camera?
    • Stats? Hunger, sleep, hygiene, etc.
    • The SC1 Version? How much should it be different/similar?
    • Anything else?

Also, I'm open to people joining me. Just post or pm if you're interested.

    June 10, 2013 Edit:

I've decided to start on this map again.

I'm going with these 5 required things to live: sleep, food, water, hygiene, and bladder (idk what to call bladder).

I've also decided to go with an interactive type of furniture. So when you click on say, a door, you'll have the options to move, pick it up, or open it (if it belongs to you). Or a cabinet, you'll be able to store things in it rather than open it.

I made this prototype kind of house to see how it would look with default SC2 models for furniture and I think it looks great.

So I'm basically looking for a terrainer to help out making the basic texture layouts of the houses and furniture and building of the city. It's really not that much work. Like I said above, I'd like to spend my time on stuff other than terrain.

Not that I care about or believe anything someone like you (yes, dat be an insult) would say but...

I learned Spanish in school and when I speak it to irritate people online like in LoL there is often someone else that was just speaking English that can speak Spanish as well. Just saying.

posted a message on Why Don't People like Lotr Games?

    @Doubleclick123: Go

LotR, other fantasy, and Sims games worked wonderfully in SC1 because the graphics were so bad you could imagine things to be other things. In SC1, it was totally normal and believable to call a zergling a "Child" or a machine factory an "Oven." You couldn't really tell what the zergling was so it was anyone's guess if it really was a child. However, it takes much more imagination to pass off a zergling in SC2 as a child. I played Cortex RP here and there to mess around with units but I noticed that everyone always kept there RPing strictly in the world of SC2, which I thought was interesting. Anyway, I think it mostly comes down to people who liked the out-of-theme games in SC1 being divided due to conflicting mental capacities and traits.

posted a message on Craft Cards [Beta] - By Team Genesis

    Craft Cards

    Hello!

We recently released the beta version of the map Craft Cards. Please check it out and leave a review of what you thought. (If playing 1 player, be sure to add one or two AIs in the lobbu before starting.) Give us your suggestions or bugs by replying to this thread or sending me a PM.

    Summary:

It is a trading card game, where the cards can be used in combat during matches. Cards can be upgraded in a shop or traded with other players. The cards and currency persist through multiple games. It is kind of like Chess/SC2/card game.

    Gameplay:

    • Each player starts with 10 cards. Those cards can be used to summon units, with their own unique abilities. Cards cannot be replaced during games. (Managing them is a mechanic of the game.)
    • Players use "Energy" as the resource to make moves and summon units.
    • Each player starts by selecting their deck (one of the three races), which can be built separately.
    • It is turnbased, but players can trade/buy cards with each other while waiting for their turn. Turns do not take long. Trading/shopping menus are currently in the alpha stage and lack user intuition currently.
    • Based on a 4 by 4 grid of squares. (The squares need to be clicked, not the units).
    • At the start of each turn, players get energy based on how many units they have and how much energy those units give. There is an energy cap of 100.
    • Turns end when the player chooses (to save energy) or when a player's energy reaches 0.-Cards purchased/traded will not show up until the next game.

    Objectives:

    • Eliminate all other players.
    • Players are eliminated when all of their cards have been used or do not have the energy to summon any while not having any(I.E. position of "checkmate").

    Current Flaws:

    • Win/loss/elimination conditions are checked at the end of each turn; if you reach elimination/win conditions, waiting until the end to observe effects is necessary.
    • AIs are very stupid; fight two or three at a time.
    • Shopping/Trading menus are in alpha stages and are functionable. However, they are clunky, only the shop is workable right now.

    • Cherry#797 in-game.

    Team Homepage: http://www.sc2mapster.com/teams/team-genesis/

    Project Homepage: http://www.sc2mapster.com/teams/team-genesis/pages/star-party/

    Introduction

Our team (Team Genesis) is currently developing a map called Star Party. It is our take on the Mario Party franchise. In this map, we would like to feature a large amount of MiniGames (MiniGame types: FFA, 1vs.All, Teams). There are two modes, one for classic Mario Party gameplay, and another for MiniGames only. The MiniGames only mode is what we would like to focus on right now, and add a large amount of MiniGames while the board mode gameplay is being developed. More information about the game can be found in the project homepage.

    What We're Looking For

Making MiniGames (polished and fun, mind you) is time consuming work when trying to make fifty of them. Our engine makes it pretty simple to add MiniGames, as it is designed for the immediate use of other mapmakers in the team. However, we would like to focus on other aspects of the map rather than filling it with MiniGames, which is why we're looking for people who are interested in donating MiniGames. We feel that allowing anyone to contribute work to this map would be an efficient way to push a fun map into Battle.net. Authors of the maps will be shown when their map is previewed, and may promote themselves or their maps in their MiniGame. We hope that the general concept of the map, that the "MiniGame Only" mode, will constantly be in a state of finishment, making the possibility of abandonment unlikely.

    How it Works

Interested mappers will recieve a template of the map (not containing donated MiniGames, only ones there for example). It will contain the engine and directions for construction. The engine provides many helpful features to make mapping easier. We request that MiniGames are mostly made via triggers (and data through Catalogs) but exceptions can be made. Existing terrain may be used, or new terrain may be constructed. This is not intended to come across as "give us your work so we can get credit for it" but rather a way for mappers to express content too conceptually small for its own game, and without having to make the effort of preamble, while recieving credit for it. Contact me via PM if interested.

    Our Experience/The Team

Each individual in Team Genesis has differing amounts of experience in various areas. I am the most advanced trigger editor and have taken the lead in this project. We are constantly on Skype together and actively communicate to resolve every issue we come across, as well as build maps together. If you'd like to see other maps the team has made, feel free to visit the homepage or PM me, or any other member. Anyone is also allowed into our Skype chat to preview what the team is like in case of being interested in joining. We are one of the largest and most active teams on SC2Mapster. We are also always willing to help out newer mappers, so if you'd like to work on a MiniGame for us while recieving help and instruction from on, that is a great way to preview how the team works and if its a good match for you.

"For the bajillionth time, how do you know God wasn't created?"

Well, common sense (to some people) would say God can't be created because that wouldn't make sense. If God was created, He wouldn't really be a God. The Christian God wasn't created, because He always was, even before time. That's (most of us's) our explanation. It's kind of one of those things where you have to have faith. Still don't see why this is important, though. If there is a God, it's not for us to try to find out. If God doesn't exist, then it should be discussed. You can see why we won't come to an agreement on this anytime soon based on that.

"God is limited. Could he make a stone so heavy that he can't lift it? One way or the other, he's limited."

It is not for us to decide what He can and can't do, no matter how obvious to us. You're obviously not familiar with how Christians see it.

    Just giving some input here.

'It only delays the question of "What made the universe?" to "What made the creator of the universe?" '

Most Christians believe you're not supposed to try to put limits on God, a common doctrine is that man is limited in every way and God is limited in no way. To try to answer where God came from would imply he's limited in some way. I know that makes it kind of hard to argue with but whatevs.

In my experience, when people say "that was all I was looking for" at the end of an argument, it was never really all they were looking for.

"That's actually false. You only feel like you're in control and it feels comforting, despite reality. Religion does not actually stabilize your life."

From my experience with you so far, I can confidently say I don't believe your life is stable. Religion itself won't do anything, it is simply a belief that there is a God. For some people, that can definately bring stability and comfort. I like how you said "That's actually false" and supported it with your opinion lol.

"That's also factually incorrect. One example, vast majority of prison inmates are religious. Higher rate of depression occurs among religious individuals than atheist individuals."

The studies don't represent what belief system they had BEFORE they went to prison. It is very common for people to convert during prison. Anyway, just because someone claims to be a theist doesn't mean they take they're beliefs seriously. I'm sure the vast majority of Christians in prison don't practice it or didn't when they went to prison.

"Religious people also commit more suicides because they want to go to the afterlife so desperately."

    You're an idiot.

"The vast majority of all the violence in our civilization have been inspired and influenced by religion."

    You're an idiot.

"Religion more or less dictates you to be eternal slaves to gods that don't exist. The atheist teachers, philanthropists, scientists, etc are full of hope, purpose, reason, and enthusiasm for life."

    Speculation.
