posted a message on Blizzard Comment About Talented Mappers

Yea, where is cortex roleplay on their lists? Sure, a single cortex map is not on the front page, but that is only because there are about 40 cortex terrains, all of which get solid play (Heck, 2nd and 3rd page NA usually have a cortex terrain) but less hours only because those hours are dispersed amongst the terrains.

Make an RPG; I love Zerg Hunter, but I'd like to see some more good RPGs out there.

posted a message on Publishing Error?

I had a publishing error about 2 months ago. The map would get to 90-100% and fail at Transmitting Archive File. After some poking around, it seemed that the error was on Blizzard's side. The problem was that I had recently removed several mods from my account. Apparently, in doing so Blizzard locked my account from uploading new maps for about 3 days. I cannot recall the explanation for this action, but apparently it was fairly standard during that time (the month was may) to do so.

posted a message on Does anyone else miss the old school RPG's?

I miss Baldur's Gate. In fact, the big thing I dislike about many RPGs is play length - if I am shelling out 60 bucks for a video game, I'd prefer that game to be long. While I enjoyed ME1 and 2, 50-60$ each for about 35 hours of play each seemed too expensive. Yes, the presentation of the stories were great (although I'd prefer more sophisticated content, I understand that the market for Dostoevsky fans in video games is quite small), and the game play was great too, but I get many more hours of entertainment per dollar spent out of something else. I suppose this is why I was such a fan of Oblivion and Morrowind; I logged about 200 hours (maybe more) on one character, and paid 60$ for the game of the year edition (that came with the two small expansions). That's about 10 hours of entertainment per 3$ spent. So, I suppose what I miss about the older RPGs, like Baldurs Gate, Neverwinter Nights (80 hours for 50$) was that value: you got a large quantity of high quality entertainment. Now, while the quality is still competitive, the quantity of the quality is not.

Edit: I suppose DAO does meet this standard, about 80H/60$, but I was fairly disappointed with the story, especially the ending. I hate it when RPGs takes your character and transforms him into some bogus general. What I loved about the expansions to Neverwinter Nights was the fact that you were at all times and adventurer.

posted a message on WoW Model-Pack Requests

    @Keyeszx

WoW dished out the extra time to make models specific to those npcs. Now, if you look at the fist WoW, before expansions, I recall very few of the npcs had special models. This, of course, changed as their signifigance changes. Thrall, for example, is going on his 3rd model, maybe 4th. There was the original model. Then the cata model, now the firelands model (which just has new animations). As WoW moved more into cinematics, with Cata especially, the need for models with cinematic specific animations increased, and thus, new models.

Additionally, firelands is evidence that WoW felt that more time was needed on raid content. Their statement pointed out, specifically, that they were aware of complaints of reused and retinted mobs, such as fireelementals, serving as bosses. Firelands contains all these new models in response.

And I must say, they look pretty darn nice, even without the animated textures!

Certain images, special combinations of attached units, effects, and other such things are the product of months of sustained fooling around in cortex, roleplaying, and participating in that community.

Chuck Norris is not an image. He is a rite of passage.

posted a message on Bill S.978

The Bill won't pass as is. Once these major firms catch wind that they are going to loose a cut, they will threaten to withdrawal any campaign contributions they've made. Additionally, they could run a PR campaign saying something along the lines of, "we have a debt crisis, an economic crisis, and this is what you're talking about?" Some politician looking to rally his base will leap all over it, and we can assume that there will be at least several legal/constitutional challenges to this. This will probably get fishholed.

Frankly, by the time this bill comes around, anyways, it will probably be shoved aside. We're already in the midst of the next tech bubble, (Facebook, Linkdin are all overvalued by a ridiculous amount) and as soon as the Fed ratchets up the interest rates, which they'll need to do soon, we can expect a big hit to GDP, more government bailouts, rising prices of all other goods, and a rise in unemployment.

As for Obama, if you hated Bush, you should also hate Obama. Bailouts, stimulus packages, growth in G, destruction of the U.S. dollar, war, expansion of healthcare; they both did these things, the packaging was the only difference. Now we are doing all we can to shove Greek debt out of the IMF (ever wonder why Germany has recently been turning their backs away from us?), devaluing out debt via expansion of currency (ever wonder why there is so much tension between our government and that of China?), and systematically pissing everyone else in the world off by waging unjust and aggressive wars.

There was no change in 2008, just more of the same. You want something to actually change? Vote for someone who wants sound money.

posted a message on nemesis.project // the one man show

Well, right now, at this phase, don't worry about textures quite yet, nor doodads. Make sure you have your map structured the way you want it before you do any of that; it'll save you alot of time. Right now, just focus on the big aspects of the terrain, and try to make that the best it can be. Afterward, start getting players to interact with the terrain; subtle things, like an elevation change, if just for a brief period, can make a huge difference in bringing a map alive. Then move on to line of sight, asking yourself what you want players to see. Afterward, when you put down the textures, ask yourself where you want to place tokens of doodad types (analytic philosophical jargon ftw!). Like, place rock textures where you want rocks, place brush/leaf textures where you want trees and plants, and ect. This way, if you pay attention to the structure of the big stuff, and then the doodads, you will save yourself tons of time. Additionally, paying attention to that (it took me 4 cortex terrains to start thinking that way) really pays off.

Anyways, best of luck to you!

Well, I would love to teach you them. Would anyone be interested in setting up a date and time for some help in the less know aspects of terraining? If you want to get a livestream guide, and have your questions about data and terrain answered, ask below! Here is what I could show you:

    • Terrain Cell Texture and Normal Map: How to make that Bel Shir Dirt Wavy, Cracked, or even sandy!
    • The Hide Terrain Cell function and Bridges! Bridges can be a special part of your terrain, so why not spend a little extra time making an extra special bridge!
    • Lighting: Ah, my lighting is messed up, and I have no clue how to fix it! Trust me, we've all been there: modified the lighting so much that once it looks bad, we don't know how to work our way out! Get help, or learn the functions of all of the field so that you don't have to worry!
    • Terrain Fog: Does that blue belshir terrain fog just not fit? Learn how to change it!
    • Wow! Is that a WoW Model? How do I put that in? Learn how to import WoW models, make the model, and the doodad!
    • Advanced Foliage work: Grass and rocks just don't always cut it! Learn how to add additional models to the foliage generator!

And plenty more! So, if you want a 'terrain' tutor, just post below.

Uh....maybe replace a /few/ of the haven trees with agria, to add some diversity. Otherwise, add some small animals, sheep, cows, birds, and ect. Place some, I think, new folsom misc (or props) in your interiors where it works. I think the boom threshhold in the light, if that is what you altered (it looks like it) should be turned back up a tad.
