Will do. I'll be expanding as much as I can. At least to the knowledge I know now about the editor?

posted a message on [Compilation] GalaxyEditor FAQ

Hey guys, I posted an FAQ on the BattleNet forums: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/777747839

    Heres the post.

Common Questions - Beginner level difficulty.

Q: How do I raise/lower water levels in the Galaxy Editor?

A: It's actually quite easy. Just go to the water panel on your Terrain Pallet, click the little drop of water then there should be a button that says Edit Water. You can then increase the size by entering any kind of number in the height box. I would suggest sticking with 6.0-8.0. It seems the most balanced.

Q: Are World of Warcraft models in Starcraft 2 Custom maps legal?

A: They are indeed allowed, it is Blizzard property so I would assume they would be allowed to be imported into another Blizzard Game. A map with a World of Warcraft model was also featured in Blizzards news on facebook which gives you more proof that they are indeed allowed to be used in Starcraft 2.

Q: How do I use the Galaxy Editor?

A: Well not all of us can really tell you how, you need to learn yourself, no harshness intended. There are actually many guides that can help you get started. www.sc2mapster.com is a very good place to get started, they have a forum with tutorials that is just filled with learning goodness for beginners.

OneTwoSC is a contributor to www.sc2mapster.com he has his own youtube page and does a lot of beginner friendly stuff while doing some of the more complex stuff. If you want to create a Tower Defense its explained in great detail at his youtube channel.

Q: How do I take Screenshots in the editor with out the Palete's?

A: Just press the "Print Screen" button on your keyboard where you want the screenshot to be taken, then the picture will be saved in your screenshots folder here: C/Users/Mainuser/documents/Starcraft II/screenshots

Q: How do I make a Starting Position?

A: First of all your going to need to press the letter "P" when you open up the editor, or you could just go to Layer > Points. Then in the points tab there should be a little circle icon that will allow you to place your starting positions anywhere on the map.

You also may need to go into the player properties and do some work with adding players to your map.

Q: How do I get a man-made cliff on top of a organic cliff?

A: It's very simple actually, just a couple clicks of a button. All you need to do in the editor is go to Tools > Brush > Allow Cliff Merging. Wallah! You have two different style cliffs on top of each other!

Q: How do I make a custom unit on my map?

A: It's easy! Anyone can do it! All you need to do is press the hotkey "U" when your in the map editor. That will bring up the Unit Palette letting you put any kind of unit in your map you want. All you need to do is click on one of the icons and then click on the map and you have your very first unit.

Q: How do I change the lobby Countdown timer?

A: This is actually very easy also, it may look hard because of all the choices. It also wants you to make a new variant, which makes it all the more confusing because you don't know what a variant is.

Here's how you do it: when in the editor go to Map > Game Variants. Before we get started on creating a new variant, here is an explanation. A variant is a tool that allows you to change or alter an option. In this case we are altering a default lobby variant.

First what you do is your going to want to go to the attributes tab in the Game Variants window. Then you need to right click on the blank white window that is on the left of the box and click "Add."

Now you have your variant, which again is altering a default option that is already in the game. Once you click on your newly created variant go to the next box over while your newly created Variant is highlighted and click on Lobby Delay.

Nothing happens yet, but now you need to go to the next box over while both are still highlighted and click on All Players. Lastly while each one is highlighted on your "All Players" box there is a drop-down box that will allow you to set the timer on the lobby.

Q: How do I publish my map now that it is finished?

A: Just go to File > Publish. Make sure that your logged into Battle.Net through the editor along with everything you have just done prior to trying to publish is saved and backed up. After that if you have 10MB in your map or lower, just press the Ok button and it will upload your map to Battle.Net.

Q: My map will not publish because it has the word Starcraft in it how do I fix it?

A: It's quite simple actually, even though your map is named something else there is another part in the editor that did not get modified. Just go to Map > Map Info and change the title of your map to your chosen name. You should be able to publish it now.

Q: How do I set alliances?

A: All I really know in that category is to lock the alliances. I'll explain how. This requires another variant, you do the same thing as you do with the lobby delay variant except you go to locked alliances and open the dropbox on that and then select Yes.

Q: How do I make campaign units in my map?

A: Its really simple actually. Ever heard of a dependency? Well when you create a new map there is a drop-down box of options you can pick from. If you choose Liberty Campaign it should give you all the campaign units it allows you to use.

Q: How do I edit unit features like its size?

A: Place your chosen unit on the map, anywhere. Then go to Tools > Selection mode. After that just double click on your unit and you should be able to scale the unit now. I don't think it is possible to color a unit, unless it is in the options after you double click the unit.

Q: How do I edit weapon stats?

A: First we need to go into the data editor, and we will be using the Gauss Rifle as an example. So, open the data editor then on the top left corner click on the drop-down box and click on weapons.

After this in the search box to the right type in Gauss Rifle, it will either be GuassRifle, GaussRifle or as stated above, Gauss Rifle. Once you find your Gauss rifle(make sure it is C-14 Gauss Rifle,) there are many options to change the weapon. I usually only change its range, the level and the damage.

If you have the "Show Table View' Option on it should be under Stats and it would be called Stats - Damage point or Stats - Range.

posted a message on [Learning] Galaxy Scripting

So, I actually REALLY want to do this, a lot. But I really don't know how to start learning. I was thinking of saving for a C+/C book, but I can't earn a lot of money, got half a year to go till I can get a actual job. :( I really would like to start doing this, it sounds fun(in a very nerdy way.) I realize it'll take dedication too, but if anyone could point me in the right direction for where to start that would be great.

    Thanks guys.

What do you usually listen to while your doing Terrain? If you do at all.

I listen to various Linkin Park songs like Numb and The Catalyst.

You don't seem to understand the pictures I have. I was trying to show the texture not the layout. I really don't mean to come across rude if it seems. The map pictures that I showed above is a RPG I am working on here and there. The area that I showed is supposed to be a isolated area. The rest of the map is pretty open.

I have room for another map to work on if anyone needs something.

Here is the pictures. Keep in mind this is a Volcanic Tileset, I can post a Mar Sara tileset once I finish the WTE. I put in some cliff shots too, hopefully you'll be able to notice which ones are cliff shots and which ones are not.

Hey guys, as you see my names Reach, Brad IRL. I'm currently looking to do terrain work. I am working on my own map right now but I wouldn't mind shoving that aside to do some terrain work. Terrain includes doodads AND textures. I wouldn't say I am perfect at doing Jungle Terrains but I think I do a decent job.

I mainly do a lot of stuff with the Mar Sara, Volcanic, Wastelands, etc.

Anyone looking for a Terrain Editor, just lemme know, PM me whatever. If you need to see an example of my work, I'll do a couple pictures in a map I have been working on, not a finished map, but little areas in the map that I do have finished.

-Information- I'm pretty experienced in this area, except jungle as I have stated. A lot of my Volcanic tilesets look exceptionally nice, not near Blizzard officials level, but as a community Terrainer very decent. All I have is pictures of the New Folsom tileset, which is indeed Volcanic and the pictures are below.

If your looking for a Terrain Artist just let me know, send me a email at [email protected]. I currently have two projects I am working on, one is pretty huge and the other is a pretty simple map.

Thanks for the read and hit me up if you need a Terrain Artist.

Donations are appreciated but not required.
