I had the same problems when I tried to import DotA sounds into my new marine sniper game - to explain in a decent level of detail, this is what I did and it worked...

    1) Imported all of the DotA sounds I needed (firstblood.wav, killing_spree.wav, etc..)

    2) Saved the game and (when in import window) font color of each imported file changes from green to black

    3) Right click on one of the files and select "Rename" [a couple of screwy things happen when I did this (below)] -Renamed file called "firstblood.wav" to "firstblood1.wav" and (for some reason) was left with both files and not a replacement -Save game and enter sounds window and select the sound item you want to link the actual sound to -I linked the sound called "firstblood1.wav" and not the original "firstblood.wav" and saved immediately after

If this worked - the game will SAVE and the the imported sound is now linked and should work If this did not work (sometimes happens) the game will not save .. exit out and reload - you saved right before the last step THE REASON WHY IT SHOULD WORK: is because you're giving it a different filename than its' originating directory and thus will not be used in two places at once..

    NOTE - be advised that:

When you rename the sound file in the SC2 import window - 1 of 2 things will happen

    1) The sound is truly renamed and you should have no problems with this

    2) The sound that you tried to rename still remains to keep the original file name and, for some reason, a different file name obtains the "Rename" title that you tried to set up ... in this case, it is still ok and will still work.. but the file labeled "firstblood1.wav" may actually be the filename for the sound that's actually "GODLIKE.wav"

I hope this wasn't too confusing, but since no one seemed to have a solid answer, I ended up burning a lot of time trying to figure it out.. some of the previous stated suggestions led me to that dreadful process, but hey, at least I got my sounds working..

...If anyone still cares, I've figured it out because I had the same problem..
