His videos are nice. But I prefer tutorials that I can read and always reference back too if needed. It's kind of annoying going back to the time he said a certain thing when you can just read it over again on forums, etc. Besides that there really good. :D

posted a message on Frostbolt Attack

hey guys, this help would be appreciated because I am trying to make a hero based map. I am using a High Templar as one of the heroes in my map. So I did OneTwoSC's tutorial on how to do the frostbolt spell. Is there a way I can make it so it will be the High Templar's attack?

Anyways, thanks a lot. I wanted to create a Druid Hero. This helps tons!

You have a huge point. So you think just little fun games like Catalyst or that shape wars game is more worth while?

I am in the progress of making a somewhat indepth article on creating a hero from the ground up. First part is pretty much a glorified make a basic unit, but next chapters will address some other very interesting stuff.

posted a message on Brainstorming - A Whole new Idea?

    LONG POST WARNING.

I've been tossing around a lot of ideas that I could do for a map. Wrote up many pages on different things I could do, my notebook is about full now. Tossing around tileset ideas, game mechanics, etc. Mainly I have been tossing around ideas about making a Map/Mod/Game fun. Different ways to make it fun. Like Nexus Wars(US) theres something about it that just keeps pulling you back into the game, same with BattleCruiser Wars(US) and some other really well made maps like Temple of Retribution.

So I came up with some of these ideas, and I realize to myself that I am not the best person to see if this idea will not work. I threw around ideas of a 16 bit game, control point game, capture the flag game...I instantly crossed off Capture the flag, how many of those do you see in actual games? Too many. I continued thinking, so a lot of these ideas would seem to be new concepts. Heres the list of ideas I had.
                                                                                               +Space Command+
+Map Layout A 16 bit map where you have a headquarters on two sides of the map, making it a 1vs1. But you see 1vs1's can be really fun, but a lot of UMS seem to be much more fun when you have a tea mate to chat it up with. (Ex. Last night I was just playing BattleCruiser Wars, first time ever, and me and this other guy were the last two players. We didn't kill each other at all, even though we were supposed too. Instead we stayed and chatted for a bit over two hours.) Thats not exactly what I mean by being able to enjoy themselves with others but to a point where there is enough social aspect in the game.

    +Gameplay
The Gameplay could work like this: The map is Black and White, not to colorful except for your two headquarters. Your headquarters would be a planetary fortress WITHOUT the Ibkis Cannon, instead give it something like a Psi Storm, probe weapon or a Stalker beam that will explode on contact. Even flying banelings will work.
I have not thought of something to use as a unit but I was thinking some random object could be made to implement a mechanic like those old Star Trek games had. Those space battles if anyone remembers those. That stuff was when I was like 6yrs old. Anyway, so you can build a mini base from your Headquarters and you can only have two of these mini bases. The Mini bases can construct some sort of unit automatically once it is idle. If it is not idle it won't construct units. If it constructed units while not being idle, that would be pretty OP.

The goal basically as you can see, is to destroy the other teams Headquarters. But the team won't lose until all there mini bases are destroyed too. This could have potential to be very competitive and fun at the same time. Maybe try to add some social aspects to the game that will encourage conversation among the teams. Other game mechanics can also be added, but I am just throwing out the basic idea right now.

                                                                                      +Liberty Crusade - a Glorified RPG+
+Summary, Story & Gameplay+ Your main character is Nova, the one in the cinematic, Ghosts have crazy telepathic skills so this is a great choice to use. After awhile of doing Quests from the locals you come across Zeratul, the one in the cinematic. I should say, they will be used like they were in the Cinematic if I can find animations for them. Anyway, you come across Zeratul and he teaches Nova(Will have a different name along with Zeratul.) A lot about the protoss Relics. There both on the hunt to find a relic after a lot of conflict. Why is there conflict? Because, Some crazy Ghost Assasin wants to pwn a protosses face!
The main objective is to find the Overmind's carapace, once the carapace is found some crazy monster beast will rise from the Overmind and basically have a cinematic of it bringing destruction over the land and the inhabitants of it. Zeratul and Nova seek out to kill it before the timer, 5 minutes, is up. After they kill it there led into a cave where a Relic of the Xel'naga is. Thats as far as I have thought. But I would like to see, once they arrive to the relic some crazy bizarre thing happening. Maybe the Relic blows up the earth and the only thing left on the map is that cave there in which is now a asteroid?

    Just some crazy ideas

    +Mechanics+
Smooth WASD Movement along with third person view. Maybe this can be a two player map. It won't really have the social aspect to it as I stated in the last map, but one playing Nova and one playing Zeratul will work. Maybe I could add some whole new quest line for other players, but it won't be apart of the Zeratul/Nova questline?
I was thinking of a save/load mechanic. That would only work if you had the other player in the game. Otherwise you would have to create a new game.(I think that deals with Bank Triggers.)

So its a basic RPG, it'll have shops and so on of course. Along with quests. It probably won't contain as many triggers as other RPG's but thats okay. RPG's need to stay simple. Not to hard and not to easy. Balance shouldn't be much of a problem with this map as it would be with the one above.

Then I was thinking of a couple other maps. I'll give a brief idea of one map I was thinking of that would never make it to be published because of such a big file.
    +Briefing+
Basically it's a World of Warcraft copycat. But what if you had actual StarCraft 2 story in it? That'd be pretty sweet wouldn't you say? Maybe it could have fully functional dungeons and so on.

I have a great map idea, I do not really have the time to share it since it is getting near dinner time here. But I would like feedback on these past two ideas. Feedback on the WoW Copycat isn't necessary, I really don't feel up to taking 5yrs to make a whole new WoS. :P I hope you enjoyed this read and understand it all. I'm not great at making my thoughts clear when I write big things like this.

Mind if I add to his question?

I've been trying to make a group of units do a attack move, but I can't seem to get it working. I can get the trigger but it wants me to set a function inside a trigger which is a ability. There is no attack in the ability functions. =/

    posted a message on Inspiration?

So I was creating this amazing map, something that was never done before I was all excited and hyped up about it spending 50+ hours just on getting the terrain and doodads correct. A couple triggers in between but yea.

Then I came across a website called SC2Mapster.com and started browsing, and I came across a map called Catalyst which was exactly like my map, and again I have never been to this website or heard of this Catalyst map until now. I was a bit disappointed, i wanted my map to be Unique for a little bit before people recreate smurfs. At this point I'm contemplating to just start something new. But nope, I go ahead with it anyway and hope people will believe me that it was not a copy.

So I am going to go and finish this map, get it done announce a closed beta and bamf. Another thing happen. My Mother informs me tonight that the computer did a Delete files thing when you boot it up after my Brother was on it. Guess what? The assets folder and all the crap I had for this map was gone. deleted somewhere in the abyss.

So thats my "cool story bro" and I don't know what to make now. I'm obviously not going to recreate because someone else has made the map. Again, in no way was I copying, I was contemplating this idea since beta. Finally learned the editor to do some stuff.

No idea what to make now, I'm a sad puppy that needs inspiration.

    inb4 cool story bro.

P.S In no way was I trying to copy someones map or offend anyone in this thread, just simply looking for inspiration.

P.S.S I had a back up of the map. but the map wasn't deleted some base assets folder was and is nowhere to be found on my comp, not even the recycle bin.

    @Sephiex: Go

Thanks guys, that works a lot. If I may ask one more question; I can't seem to find a way to make the units that come out of the Hercules uncommandable. I'm trying to make the units kind of like Defense of the Ancients, where they spawn, are uncommandable and follow the path to attack. Keep in mind this map is not a DotA remake. T_T
