I assume map size (huge) is a problem. Since the snes is just running on a 256x224 resolution, would it be viable to reduce the size of everything and have it zoomed in?

As for the sprites, you can always use public domain ones, such as http://www.panelmonkey.org/category.php?id=4 or the ones based on Blizzard's earlier SNES titles. Not much RPGs there though (apart from that one crappy LOTR game they ported).

Very interesting, would love to see if anyone has actually done this at a fairly high level game.

Edit: I deleted the map to have a chance to join the map contest, since the map cannot be published and no one was playing it anyway. However, I keep receiving messages of people asking me to re-upload. So, I re-uploaded it, but the map stills out of the list. I might delete again 1 week before the contest deadline to be able to submit it, if this won't annoy the Debates players.

Mate, did you even read the rules of the contest? The map has to be entirely unreleased. You cannot enter "Debates" or a new version of it into the contest, as the map has to be originally unreleased.

"How to Enter: To enter, a qualified entrant will complete the entry checklist and thereafter submit an original, unreleased, UMS custom map"

The entire point of the contest is to get new creative maps released that otherwise wouldn't exist.

So, Theoraticly your screwed if your name is Mario and your a plummer?

So if he'd rename all the things, like Mario = Gario and the Koopa's are Woopa's and your done? ^^

Yes, you can rename him Gario and so on. However, you are not allowed to use the model of Mario either (even if you paint him yourself). As the design itself is copyrighted. You are however free to develop a similar design.

Btw, how easy is the sprite engine to work with? Does it require any special skills to incorporate it into your own map?

    What about EU?

And why not either import the models of the builders from WC3 or import some other unique models? It feels a bit sad every game is using the standard SC2 units these days.

posted a message on MOD Concept: Play SC2 Single Player units in multiplayer

Seems very simple to do but quite pointless as it will completely mess up the game balance, as Terran has many more, and much better, campaign units than for example Protoss.

Just out of the top of my head, Protoss has one unit, the Scout (which is quite worthless to begin with).

While Terran has: Goliath, Medic, Vulture, Science vessel, Diamondback Tank, Hercules, Firebat, Predator, Spectre and Wraith. Just one of those would completely unbalance the current game (such as the Diamondback or the Spectre)

    Typical european censorship :/

Except the guidelines and policy is set by Blizzard, an US company. It is very doubtful they'd be as strict if the company was for example Swedish or French.

Probably more to do with Jesus. Diablo isn't really Satan from the Bible anyway.

Regardless, they have already shown rules for publishing maps, and religious figures are definitely there. Obviously showing a picture of Jesus arm-wresting Satan is questionable.

I highly doubt this does anything with Activision (same with Real ID on forums, premium maps, etc). If you are going to compare to WarCraft III, the way Battle.net worked and how uploading maps in general worked made it difficult or impossible to enforce rules on maps.

The Devil is definitely a religious figure though, and he is already in the game (and yes, Diablo means Devil in Spanish). The map he is featured on is even called "The Devil's Playground" and is a lava/hellish map, so there is no doubt that they are referencing the religious character The Devil. I don't see how you cannot be allowed to use religious figures when Blizzard themselves implemented him and named a map after him. He's even in the map editor.

I mean, the rule is "Has any connotations of major religions or religious figures (i.e. Jesus, Christianity, Buddha)" and then they themselves name maps "Hell" and "The Devil". On top of that, plenty of units are even named after gods we have here in Sweden, such as Thor. Or after Christian figures, such as "Devil Dogs", hypocrisy if I ever saw it.

I don't see how Blizzard can complain about that when their other game features the devil, it's even named Devil (Diablo). And last time I checked, that very same devil is even in the SC2 game on a map.
