The idea behind it is say you get to play what you want when you want to. I'm not sure if you can switch freely but I'm hoping they make you have to have some commitment to your build, like only change builds in designated areas so that way people aren't just freely changing their builds.
But what I'm getting at is Eiviyn made magicide which basically gives you spells to make your own style of play. Now there's a game with a similar thought process.
This game, Secret World, first made me think of Eiviyn's map magicide. Basically the game has no levels, no classes just a lot of spells and you mix and match to make your build. Basically sounds like magicide to me.
The problem is that You can't really make cool compelling characters. Like a marine is a marine. Zealot is a zealot. The characters don't feel unique. I forget where I heard that but it's so true. Warcraft has characters that you can use that it's believable if you say they're something else, I forget what reference they used but it was a believable thing where a unit in warcraft could actually be believed to be that thing while starcraft the units are too centered on that role that you can't really see it as much else.
Tempest seem too weak. Their range is fine but they're so damn slow and fire slower than they move. I can see either an attack speed buff or a move speed buff in the future.
You just said it. If they copied it on accident it's still plagiarism. It's like saying if I accidentally wrote my essay the exact same as someone else then it's fine. It's not fine and a university would throw me out. So there are consequences.

Also I've been looking into some stuff and video codecs are software right? So you nay sayers are basically saying it's fine to copyright the software called Windows 7 but not a video codec. At the end of the day Microsoft was in the wrong and that's all that matters. Just be happy it's not as bad as Germany, they got rid of Windows and Office,I think it was office, along with 360.
I don't think the government are the people suing. It's the companies suing the people who pirated after they've been brought in. Also, the reason these programs and companies aren't held responsible is because that wasn't their original intent so they can't be held responsible for some consumers using their product the wrong way.
The idea of a video codec isn't patentable. But the exact way you made it is. They have unique lines of code that they had to write themselves, probably took a team of guys and a year or so. I don't know the exact time it takes for this kind of stuff but still. It's not the idea of a video codec, it's the fact that M$ stole the video codec that Motorola made uniquely along with the wifi technology that motorola made.
You can't patent gravity but if you find a way to make a device to make your own gravity you can patent that. General ideas can't be patented. Learn the copyright laws.
Motorola probably asked M$ to pay the money that was due and they probably said "bitch please" so motorola probably sued after negotiations failed. They are in the right to sue. M$ stole from them.
Does anyone know how to do this? I've been googling and I've mostly found stuff on how to install mods onto the PS3, not how to specifically bake a mod for PS3 UT3. Also does anyone mod UT3 still? Basically you can make your own game if you have UDK anyways.
So you're saying because they made a unique set of technology that does something a certain way and patented it they are claiming to have invented the universe? It's nothing like that. Having to work your ass off to invent something unique deserves to be protected. It's just incredibly stupid that M$ wouldn't just dish out money to get proper use of it from motorola. Instead they had to steal it. Supporting M$ is supporting stealing, plain and simple.
I don't see why people view this negatively. This isn't censorship, this is stopping a company from making profit off stolen technology. It's like plagiarism, it's a bad thing.
I haven't read into the whole patent that's being infringed but it sounded like some technology was outright taken from motorola for the wifi and video codecs. I'm not sure exactly how they patented the stuff but I'm assuming they outright took what motorola used and just put it in the 360. It seems to me M$ was being lazy and was looking for a way to save money.
