Artosis and tasteless also told people about this live during a stream right after they were introduced. :)

If, on your Diablo map, you had the choice between a diablo model or a WC one, which would you use? Obviously we want our maps to LOOK good, and while having a battlecruiser substitute for a Marathan works, and people wont care. That doesn't mean I'll just go "eh, good enough". Like all creators I strive for perfection, that includes aesthetics. I'll make do with what I have, now, but I'll also look for proper models, just like you did with your diablo map.
It depends. When we were working on the project the limit in wc3 was about half of what it is now in filesize. I think it was 4000kb, was it?
And i would not use custom models that resemble a game that is not made by blizzard. I just think it is wrong. There is a reason for why they want to copy-right material. Making an almost exact copy of it should not make any difference.
And if you strive for perfection, you should NEVER try to copy an already existing title, especially in the graphics, that is the most stupid thing you can do.
If you want it to be perfect, it is always a good idea to take for example halo, and then recreate the world so that it suits the available resources you have.
I for example plan to make a sc2 campaign similar to the 3D zelda games (I have played zelda since i were 3, starting with a link to the past, i own all games, i own multiple copies of many games, i have gold cartrigdes, i have gold CDs, i even have a zelda nintendo DS. That should probably explain how much i like the zelda series).
But even though i like it THAT much, i took pieces from different zelda games and then recreated it in the StarCraft universe. And wut, now you have Legend of Zelendis, where a young Protoss (with the model of a Zealot) will have to save the world.
I dont see why you really need to do HALO and it is like impossible to recreate it to fit starcraft, and insted have the risk of getting your project banned from battle.net due to copy-right issues.
And while I COULD create a unique universe, I don't want to. I mean going back to your Diablo map, why didn't you make a brand new, unique universe? Because you didn't want to, you wanted to recreate Diablo. Well I want to recreate Halo, since I enjoy the universe and the lore behind it.

It was pretty much like this "If you call it diablo 3, then make it like diablo 3".

And it is nothing wrong with the fact that you like the lore, i think thats awesome, but you can use the lore and create your own universe with it.

Now, this would fit pretty well. The idea is still exactly the same, but i use the resources that the starcraft universe has to offer.
And guess what, i waited with this project becouse there is not much resources yet. IF it will be required. but so far nothing have the requirement of custom resources, and i have a word file with a few hundred rows where i have written exactly what will happen during the game and how everything will work, but it is still almost exactly like ocarina of time, but it does not require any custom resources at all.
Just think about it. It feels like you are trying to convince yourself that you MUST make it look EXACTLY like halo, and this is not a good thing. This could do more bad then good. If you atleast give it a chance and try to make it do-able with the existing resources i am sure that you will be able to make a map that is just as good, if not better. This would also give you more freedom. becouse if you do a halo map, it have to be halo, right? otherwise there is no point of making it look exactly like halo.
In the end, we're woefully off-topic. This thread isn't about why mappers may want custom models in their maps, it's about whether or not those custom models even exist.
First of all, I'm here because this place is NOT about SC2, it's about SC2 modding. If you've noticed, I haven't complained about the editor, I've complained about Blizzard, and especially Bnet.
Also, you must be one of those mappers who make "original" tower defense games and the like. As you said, part of modding is creating new and unique things. Now, last I checked, you can create a new and unique map based on a specific universe. Just because my map is set in the Halo universe, and thus needs Halo models to look good, does NOT mean it's been done before. It doesn't mean it's an FPS copying the Halo games or anything. Honestly, if your idea of "creative" is simply doing something with absolutely no ties to anything, period, then I've got bad news for you, anything you create has ties to SC due to the models you use :(.
So yeah, there is a point in using Halo models, because my map takes place in the Halo universe. And in the Halo universe, the humans didn't use T shaped battlecruisers, and the covenant didn't use flying dildo's. So sue me for wondering if models existed that'd make my map look good, and actually follow the source material.

And no, i can not say that i create original stuff, insted i create stuff inspired by blizzards games, like Diablo III Warcraft for example. And i can tell you one thing, The map got INSANELY popular and people said that it was like diablo before we used ANY custom model or skin that resembled anything from diablo III itself. We used a freaking Orc as barbarian and reskinned him, and guess what, people said that it was freaking awesome.
We also used a quil boar with a lantern or something in one of his hand once for the witch doctor, just becouse the witch doctor was so weird, and people was totally fine with that. It took like 6 months before we replaced it with a custom model, and people didnt complain.
And why does a StarCraft II map that take place in the halo universe need to use halo models? You could easily replace them with for example Marines and Zealots for both sides.
And then you use the phoenix for that purple vehicle from halo 3 (cant remember the name), you just paint it purple and its close enough.
You could also use the hellion for the classic halo car. It even have a nice gun on top of it just like the car in halo.
and so it continues. The map can absolutely be good without the use of models from halo. Creativity goes far sometimes.
And i am not saying that the map have been made before, but you do not have to use the halo universe at all, do you? With some creativity you could create your own universe have resemble the halo universe in almost everyway, but it looks different and stuff have some different names.
And i never said that your suppost to do something that isnt tied to ANYTHING, but you could atleast be a bit creative, you do not have to make something that looks exactly like halo for it to feel and be just like halo.
And i am pretty damn sure that you could use a medivac/banshee or whatever with a reskin if anything at all to make it fit.
Besides, Blizzard wouldn't be liable for being sued if they weren't stupid fucking assholes, and didn't force us to host our maps on their servers. They couldn't get sued for maps made in WC3 or SC, because they held no responsibility, it was even in their eula. But now that they FORCE us to host our maps on their servers, they're liable, and as such limit us. Fucking despise them for ruining custom content like this, they made a fantastic editor that allows us to do almost anything, and then ruined it by putting so many limitations on Bnet, that we can't do anything truly creative or inspired. All we can do is make gimicky minigames.

Strangely enough when I was holding down A and S or S and D together the 8 key would not respond.. wth?
That could very well be your own keyboard. Some keyboards cant hold down specific keys at once when you hold down to many keys.
Try to do it in notepad or something. My brother have the steelseries keyboard that can hold down all buttons at once so i can give it a try later.
I have done it with a region around the gate. Then just do 2 triggers, one that says any unit enters gate region issue order with no targer gate open (it's listed under gate in the orders)
Then just do the same thing for when a unit leave the region, but change it from enters to leaves, and open to close.
You can make into one single trigger. just have both enter and exit in the same trigger and then have a else if action that checks if the triggering unit is inside the region or not.
That way you wont require two triggers. :)

The post i quoted was confusing. when reading the post now i understand that you want to open/close it with the command card and not through regions. I am pretty sure there is a simple way to do this, you could for example use the tank ability and modify it so that it changes between closed and open. sadly i cant go into details right now as im in school.

That is just a few things that you can do...
Me and my brother found these strategies ourselves during the beta. No idea if others use the spinecrawler rush.
I have also won a 1v2 with cannon rush, not sure if i still have the replay though.
This is just a few ways that you can crush the opponent in by using rushes.
You can delete the Text message by searching the specific lines then delete them. You will still get the error sound though.
It should be possible to remove the sound in the data editor aswell, right?
Becouse you can change ping sounds, etc. so it seems logical that you could change the error sound to nothing.
And then you could simply play the sound through triggers for the places where you want it.

Though, i do think that the attachment points dissaper with the current converter, if thats true, then you cant attach them yet.
I hope that they add support for it (if they havent done so already, i have not had time to check), since currently it is almost impossible to find any units using bows. It is kind of frustrating.
1) A teleporter/base near the middle of each lane that allows the team that owns it to teleport from there to their main base instantly, and might even heal allied heroes.
2) Some sort of gas refinery that will give your team vespene gas, which then allows your team to purchase upgrades that affect your creeps. (For example, player 1 purchases armor lv 2, so ALL his teams creeps will now have armor level 2). This will make creeps alot more important and not just there for killing and leveling
3) something like inhibitors from league of legends, where if you kill it your enemy is cippled. Not so sure about this since you already have the capture territories.
Idea 1 is alraedy used in a WarCraft 3 map called SMotA or something like that. The map have been out for ages and there is actually many people that plays it, but not often seen on battle.net. So well, its not really something original im afraid.
For the 2nd idea, that is a commonly used thing in different warcraft 3 maps aswell, but not seen to often in a AoS styled map for the very reason that people would figure out which upgrade is the best to have, and then everyone will go all out on it, not to mention that most players wants to focus on their own hero rather then the actual creeps. I think it could be used if you do it right though.
And for the 3rd one i cant really say anything, becouse i have only played LoL once, becouse i like DotA and HoN more. (though, since the release of HoN i have moved back to DotA).
