posted a message on Want your map previewed/promoted on youtube?

Ok, well in a effort to help out the SC2mapster community I am going to start accepting "review copies" of maps that I will preview on youtube in 720p.

If you are a struggling map maker and don't have time to do youtube videos then I want to help. There are a few requirements though:

    • Unfortunately I can't do EU maps (localization) so you must be on the North American server.
    • Your map has to be finished and playable.
    • Your map has to have been released or releasing within two weeks.
    • Your map must have a loading screen displaying the SC2mapster.com logo.
    • You must provide me with any special info on how to properly show off your map.
    • Your map must be registered here at SC2mapster.com
    • If your map is multiplayer you must set up a time for me to play it with you (privately on b.net or I can also bring other players in).
    • If you wish to interact (like an interview) in the video you must have ventrilo installed( I have my own server).

These previews will not be "reviews". There will be no number score. I will point out a style of play for the map so the watcher can decide if he/she would enjoy playing it. Think of these as showcases to help get your map some attention. I WILL NOT pimp your map or make it sound like something that it is not. If you want this to work then there has to be credibility.

Lastly, I will reserve the right to postpone video creation if there is some glaring problem with the map playing (tech difficulties, etc).

Remember I am doing this to help you guys get you maps some attention and get SC2mapster some positive traffic.

If you are interested then please say so below or PM me privately.

(I would love to set up an SC2Mapster Youtube channel but I will not do so until given permission).

Very good stuff. Do you retouch with photoshop?

My only critique would be to lay off the bloom some....it gives some of us headaches :P.

posted a message on Seeking voice actors for Purity of Form campaign

I am going to do some voices tonight. As a Texan I might be able to pull off the male southern thing :P. Then again supposedly my accent only comes out when I am drunk, lol.

One thing I have to mention is your dialogue is not exactly conducive to how people form sentences in the south. I'll do my best with the lines as written but I am also going send "ad-libbed versions".

for example, in the south, the following would go:

"Those who sell bootleg fuel should be ready to take on the local law. If he can't do that, (pause) well, then Robbie deserves what's comin'."

You don't need a link. Its common sense.

No business, especially not money grubbing blizzard, is going to allow somebody else to make any amount of money off of things they spent money on to create. Period. Not to mention the legal ramifications should something be used improperly while monetary transactions take place.

How would you feel if you created a game and somebody else took every asset you used and made a similar game and charged a price for it. You payed 30 million dollars for your game. They payed $60.

In other words, you cannot sell a map on Blizzards store that uses Blizzard assets. All 3d models have to be done by the author.

Which means, only large teams or people already in the development industry (ie. working for a game company) will be able to sell their maps as the majority of us don't have 10 to 12 character modelers or animators "on staff". In fact there are about 0 modelers I know of in this community that are doing custom models (ie not just porting WoW models with changes). I know 1 animator that is doing custom rigs.

Nobody in this community as it stands now will benefit from selling maps on blizzards store (I might be wrong as I am not familiar with all the teams though).

Not that I disagree with their idea as its the only way to "legally" sell maps for an engine.

I would be ready to sign up for anything. But its going to be tough to get good maps (or good unique maps) played until blizzard overhauls the "popularity" system.

I am all for the sc2mapster premium service though.

One of the things this community should do is really help our own on bnet. Having a released maps forum could help as well as a pool of trustworthy beta testers (so difficult to tell if someone is just testing to rip off your idea :( ). Possibly make it where you can lose your premium status if you blatantly steal from another Sc2Mapster member?

Also an SC2mapster official youtube channel where one of us reviews maps made by our community and previews them (not just the map creator). Possibly make it where you have to be part of premium service to be included. (I'd actually be willing to do the reviews and previews if yall wanted to do this).

posted a message on Is it possible to use an "ability pool" in the command card?

I am toying around with the idea of letting players pick abilities for their heroes. What I am wondering is if I can use the top left button for primary ability, the next on for secondary ability and the next one after that for ultimate ability. They would have 5 primaries to choose from, 5 secondaries and 3 ultimates. They could only chose 1 of each (in command card two) and it would place the correct ability in the correct slot on the first command card.

My first thought was to give the hero all the abilities and then place all the primary abilities under the same command button (like stacking upgrades), all the secondaries under the second button and the ultimates under the third. I then placed restrictions on the abilities requiring research upgrades and only allowing 1 research per ability class.

Problem is abilities are not hidden in the command card when they are restricted so you only have access to one ability no matter which one you research (for each ability class).

Is there any way to hide an ability on the command card and only make it visible when requirements are met? Can you place 5 abilities in the same slot and only allow one of those to work when a requirement is met?

posted a message on Can someone explain "effect-instant" to me.

I created a skill that is supposed to create a persistent with an arc of 60 in front of the caster and then search periodically for targets to damage. I set the target of the cast as the caster.

Logically this should start the periodic at the caster and then move it outwards away from it. But this editor isn't always logical and I keep getting a NoTargetSelected error.

    the chain goes ability>create persistent>search area>damage

This works flawlessly with "effect-target" abilities but I can't get effect instants to work correctly.

    @QMJ3: Go

Yes it is mostly used for aesthetics. The editor is actually really limited in the terrain department. You only get two types of "cliffs", only 8 textures and these custom cliffs are just molded ground.

Its not like some of the better fps engines (UE3, Crytech, etc) where you can actually mold a cliff and it be a cliff. So yeah its nice that the editor is easy to use but the limitations of it are like early 2000's bad.

posted a message on [Data] Working with Attachments (Beginner Difficulty)

Well I have a problem. I attached my Hover Tank Turret (shrike turret model) to the Dominion train fast. The turret shows up but the rotation does not happen at all. Also the turret does not bob along with the trains idle movement.

One thing I don't understand is, we attach the turret to the turretZ of the host unit. What if the host unit doesnt have a turretz? If I attach to points like overhead or origin the same thing happens.

If I attach to "target" points then the local attachment gets all screwed up. I then have to use SOp Banker and SOpFlip to get the turret back in the place I want it. Once there the turret will bob along with the idle movement but completely wig out (it sits there and twitches on its axis) and still not rotate when it fires.

What the hell is an SOpBanker? You never explained that. You should do an attachment tut where you attach a single turret to a moving unit. Make it an intermediate one. The uberlisk tut is so too intimidating for the likes of me.
