    posted a message on Random is the only way to play ?

    @houndofbaskerville: Go

    Experimentation can be done with all races. Playing random may give you the impression you're experimenting more but it could just be that it only seems that way because you're playing in more match ups so you're just exposed to more unique situations.

    There are benefits of playing random, but of course playing only one race allows you to hone your builds and precision more since honing your play in 3 match ups is a lot easier to accomplish than honing play in 9 match ups. So it may take a more creative player to pull of playing random well, like TLO, but eventually even he limited himself to playing only one race.

    I'd suggest that you play what you most enjoy. If you enjoy playing random more than one particular race, go for it. But in my experience you'll become more of a threat on ladder if you stick with one race. I think it's also good to play on the other side of the match up; in other words if you're a protoss, you might want to play terran versus protoss as the terran so as to understand the other side's perspective.

    yeah to be safe i'd suggest compiling your own list, but you don't have to do it word by word. just look up groups of words like some grade6-8 spelling list. or look up some of the most commonly used words in the GRE, SAT, etc.

    yea it would be okay i guess. what would be really cool is if they added support for multiplayer map making, at least through some kind of lan or p2p.

    posted a message on Nexus Word Wars was banned

    After some thought I think that the decision to ban the map may seem harsh but it isn't entirely unreasonable. It's important that people realize that there are some restrictions that need to be imposed on maps that are intended to be shared across the network. Free speech arguments don't really apply since this is a private service.

    It may seem unfair, but Blizzard has to make this point known clearly from the start, and banning high profile maps that violate these policies is an important part of the process. Such will save a lot of hassle for them in the future, which means they'll have more time to work on more important things for us.

    It's reasonable of Blizzard to offer methods to lift map bans. While we might expect them to offer a map maker a more detailed analysis of why a map was banned and a built in adjustment period, again this will take more work on their part. Some maps are just to large to provide detailed reports on. I'm afraid in this case the onus is on the map maker to make the proper adjustments.

    I'm sure if OP provides a reasonable account to the online service forum request a lift, as well as adjusting the map accordingly Blizzard will gladly lift the ban. It's not like they don't want good maps.

    It isn't reasonable to check 10000 words. That's not the issue. It's kind of lame that they are calling people on something that seems so insignificant, but that isn't as bad as the fact that they don't give any second chance to fix the problem -.-. Seems lazy and uptight of them.

    posted a message on Debates is no longer on Battle.net

    I'm gonna have to agree with RileyStarcraft. Sorry, man. That's how you come off. I even helped you out at the start by waiting with you in a game to help you spread it. I message you a week later to ask to play and you give me a cold response even though you'd been friendly in the beginning when you were asking to help spread it. There wasn't a need to be friendly anymore since it was popular I take it.

    I thought you were a bit whiny before but wasn't sure. But frankly you still sound a bit whiny now, just taking the map down cause it wasn't as popular as you'd liked. May sound harsh but you should be let known, so I'm in agreement with Riley, go away or do something about your attitude.

    posted a message on Vexal Tower Defense; Popularity System

    @halfthought: Go

    he isn't necessarily saying that the popularity system is absolved. i think the popularity system isn't the issue. the point is that people should remember what's most important when making maps, and that is, when people make maps they should focus on the maps, and not the bureaucracy outside the maps. the popularity system, whether it's going to be fixed or not, has been accepted as bad by everyone, including Blizzard. While it presents a challenge for map makers to get their maps popular, it should not take away from the map making experience in itself. Most importantly, people who measure their success too much by the outcome that it leads to never really create the best stuff anyway; it even leads to burn out if the emphasis on it is too strong. This same approach should be taken even if the popularity system is totally revamped such that it pleases the greater population of map makers.
