Yah, he had all the usual things an enemy combatant has done to them when they are captured in wartime. He should have thought about that before he was born into an heavily Al-Queda influenced family and dragged off to fight against the imperialist forces of the west in the Jihad by his terrorist sympathizing father. He should have seen what happened to his older brother who also went to fight the western invaders and decided to put down his weapons and return to his comfy life in Canada.

Oh wait, he couldn't because that's not what he was raised to do or will ever be convinced is a better option. There in lies a problem; we have systems for career criminals and hospital networks for mentally distraught people but we have absolutely no system in place to handle people who were born to become a zealot of a movement who's entire agenda is to cause as much damage to western culture as possible. So until we (the people of western culture he wants to destroy) do have plans for threats to our safety like him: He stays where he is. He's a casualty of this Jihad for sure, but don't let the very people who damned this boy to this fate use him to create even more like him.

Indeed that is what the launch missile effect uses as a destination and what the mover uses to figure out how fast/slow to send the missile towards it based on its own settings vs the offset distance. So yah if its unable to reference a point due to it being beyond the map's edges it won't create the rest of the effect. Took me a while to figure out what was going on when I met the same thing :P

If you're using exactly that sort of thing with the persistent effect at the start of the chain with the -Y offset you might be running into the situation where the -Y offset goes past the map's border and that stops it from firing. That's about the only hangup I'd found with such things, just need a happy medium of Y offset vs missile's mover's settings vs map's borders to get around that if that's the case.

Its an older thread but the map attached to it shows exactly how this sort of thing works: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/map-development/4399-make-a-fireball-ability/

Its been a pretty solid building block for many of our 'targetless' projectiles projects.

Wild guess here: Part of his attempts to keep map crackers from figuring how this stuff works. Just a guess... mind you it is indeed very counter productive to this particular post since he's claiming this thread about one of his maps is to actually show people how they work...

Ugh I hate holding a torch for a thread for which I care little about, but okay: Give us the date you changed the name of that map to "left 2 Die".

Harsh yes, but what's the alternative? He'd been taught since birth to hate, that's a rather hard thing to undo. If the psychologists want a crack at him have at 'er, but I'm not betting a successful result.

Yuck, dude got a very raw deal in the ol deal of cards of life. Unfortunately it was such a raw deal his upbringing/education doesn't seem to let him understand exact what's wrong, and thus much like an errant animal that's done terrible things without knowing they're terrible...I don't mind if he's put down.

/Canadian Not a 'fake' vet like perhaps others

So all of this "Lets flood bnet with crappy maps, let's whine and holler until they fix it!" business is actually something you are unable to participate in or share the risk of doing so because you have already voted with your wallet despite saying its a really great game. That gives a pretty good insight into your faith of ever being satisfied with how things will go and makes much more sense of why you felt in that other thread where we spoke a while back that you felt entirely entitled to using the editor and its assets for free.

    I see.

Bah its hard to stay away from when someone reasonable responds ;)

Aye, I know that being able to discuss just about anything is usually better then censoring and suppressing information. Just while I agree its important to let map makers know that these sorts of things are out there, I don't agree with providing the very people who want to crack maps with a set of instructions on how to do it. Let's face it, every time a protection has been implemented by a user it gets cracked so there is very little point in trying to develop our own protections to stop the process that's laid out in such detail in the first post of this thread. We must wait for Blizzard and we have as usual no time line from blizzard on when that's going to happen. So the best we can do to protect our maps is to slow the spread of knowledge on how to crack them...and this thread's first post's instructions kinda negates that since its sitting dead center in the largest resource for map making for starcraft 2. So this thread essentially strips the map makers of the best available defense against cracking, that's what we have issues with.

This is the first time (I think) that Blizzard is actually trying to implement a locking mechanism for maps and yah its pretty rough and easy to defeat, but no sense in sabotaging it by posting the crack for it right here....which btw I still think is no better then posting a nocd crack for the client itself, ethically or legally if you take into account how the EULA talks about how all maps become blizzard property...

That's my view and that's why I am so torn on staying with a site that ignores my pleads to keep locks as obfuscated as possible until Blizzard has time to work out a proper method. Talk about how they're crackable for sure, but please don't give the crackers instructions on a silver platter like this.

So you handle locked threads by pulling them out of existence entirely then eh? If only we map makers could just pull our maps out of existence and have them still serve their purpose. Well I've exhausted my avenues here, you and now Vjeux have made it clear you'd prefer to put all the locked maps on battle.net at greater risk and use them as leverage to try and make blizzard improve the locks yet won't even try to talk about it in their own forums. I'm done, I know you mean well...but this I just don't agree with. Laters, for now.

Btw I was that someone who posted about getting into a locked thread way back when, something about a very serius thread. Considering how long its taking for this site to just remove a *link* from locked thread's posts...I'm not holding my breath for blizzard to fix their own junk while this site continues to show wannabe crackers how to get around blizzard's locking method.
