    Just had an idea today. 4v4 fastest melee-style with a unique mechanic:

    Players start with a CC/Nex/Hatch and a capital ship, a v2 Jackson's battlecruiser/Mothership/Leviathan respectively. There are no mineral patches or gas geysers. The capital ship uses a device to extract the resources via mining. Terran BC uses a red laser, Mothership uses a scaled down Planet Cracker, and the Leviathan drops a tendril into the ground, also using the rumbling ground animation from the nydus worm burrow.

    The Cap Ship uses "Drop Anchor", a 5 second castable, to immobilize and begin mining. Mining initially generates... whatever, either 5 mins per second or 1 mineral 10x per sec, adjustable for balance. Upgrades of increasing cost boost mineral mining rates, and add vespene generation. Upgrades are equal to 30-90 seconds of mining time at the present level, so they get quite expensive later into the game. The ship can later Weigh Anchor to become mobile, during which mining ceases.

    Cap Ships are also equipped with weapons which gain, say, 3 damage, 1 attack and .5 range per mining upgrade level. Mobile Mode doubles attack speed vs Mining Mode. Cap Ships have health in the 4000-8000 range. Of course, other castable abilities could be introduced to the Cap Ships as well.
