It can go either way. Even if someone already has an idea for a map - stranded humans on some unknown world for example - it could still be fleshed out in many different ways. There is more creative freedom if you get in early though.
Hahah, nice one...I've written some short stories / creative works / game drafts, but since I"ve recently moved, I have no idea where they are. Probably in a box in the spare room....
The main reason I want to help out is because I've seen some of these insane maps, and they have basically no story, or the story is a rehash of one that has already been done. I think a great map needs a great story, especially if it's going to become really popular.
Ok, I've got the vortex ability to work, but it's still sucking in units, which I don't really want, but the button works on the command card for the high templar.
The other thing that I cannot get to work is the spawning of units in conjunction with the vortex. Any ideas?
If you're a great data editor / script editor / master of triggers, but not that strong on story elements, character backgrounds, ability descriptions, I'd like to help! Just let me know what you're working on, with a general overview of what you're aiming for, and I'll flesh out the background for you.
I've got a real strength for creative writing / creative thinking, and can write for multiple genre's, including sci-fi, fantasy, realism, historical, etc.

Some amazing abilities in here. asaphelps's meteor effect was awesome, with the terrain deformation, and Slypoos' Hellzone Grenade was just crazy. Keep up the awesome work guys.
Maybe after the contest some of you would like to make tutorials on the abilities?
Hi all! I'm new to these forums, but after checking out the community and what some people have done, I was really impressed, and wanted to join to learn more about the editor!
I used to create custom maps and things in SC1, but the new Galaxy Editor is pretty daunting to learn. Here is what I'm trying to create below:
I want to have my custom hero (high templar copy) have a custom ability, that when activated, first shows the vortex animation for 3 seconds in the targeted location and then right after that in the same location, spawn 16 spine crawlers facing different directions, which will attack in the direction they are facing regardless of their being something to target for 8 seconds.
I'm trying to do all of this in the data editor, but I'm getting a little lost amidst the menus - anyone want to help a newbie out?
