posted a message on How does the NEW popularity system work?

I know this thread is abit old now. But haven't there been an update to this system as of late?

Do anyone have any details on how it works now? And how long an hour played stays on the "hours played" status?

Didn't read everything in your last post, but randomness can be realy good. They key here is that said random event is equal for all players. This way you actualy get to see the difference in skill between the players. If the random event might be different for each player, the game looses its appeal, since this type of randomness only takes away alot of skill from the game, and bases it more on luck.

This is the second TD of this type of randomness I have heard of, and I like it. The other one is Split TD. Which has a realy nice concept, but could be polished to become a realy exciting TD.

Element TD is abit different type of TD, since there is no random factor from game to game. But here aswell you have alot of skill requirement. This is what realy attracts me as to these games.

The main difference between these two is that element td require more planning and tactics skills together with experience. While the random type require more skill in quick thinking and the ability to act and adjust to different situations at a higher pace.

The reason why AoS type maps have to copy alot from dota and wc3 is that it simply would be a realy bad game with heroes consistent of skills only from SC2 units.

    Legion TD playable alone btw?

I played dota alot, and have moved over to HON now, a standalone game build on Dota. So my interest in any dota like games in sc2 will be very low. I agree, Element TD was very good, havent testet Legion TD tho. The TD's that implement alot of different aspects to the game, like the intrest in element TD makes it alot of fun :)

Any in particular you would like to recommend btw? One of the promising ones I have seen so far is Hex'd. Competative arena style map. Not complex, just fun to play

I am well aware of the insane amount of possibilities with this map editor. But some games are still great because of their simple nature and creative gameplay.

Thats what im most eager to see in the SC2 future of mapmaking. Not heavy advanced maps, but rather maps which creative and intriguing gameplay.

I think DOTA would be fun on SC2 but i dont really see how it could work with no invientory and all.

I dont realy see why people want more DOTA maps btw. There are several games out there that is made for this consept and this consept only. Take for example Heroes of Newerth, got a whole team behind it and started with proffessional play with big $ rewards. Just dont see the point in doing a remake of this to SC2.

@SockWizard: Go Not sure if I played this exact map, but I think I know what kind of map ur talking about. and yeah, those types of maps is realy fun. Go create!

Two other old WC3 maps I remembered now is:

Commando Wars: 3 teams spawn in 3 different startingplaces with 2 or 3 peasants. out in the map there are tons of different units, but all of these have a number next to them. The number tells how many peasants you have to run into there to get that unit instead. With the units you have, you are supposed to kill of the other teams, and first team to ... kills win. There are also alot of different combo's here, where you could get 2 different units, and in an upgrade place in the map, fuse em together to get an even stronger mob. Or just fuse 2 of the same together and get a big one.

Multi Square Defense: 4 teams. Map devided into 4 squares. upto 3 players each team. 1x castle in the middle of each square and gold for mining around the map. You could have mobs coming in levels, or have players summon them for income. different game modes. In the start there also was alot of different races to choose from. Several builder type races, some hero type races and some semi builder/hero. You could buy statsboosts for your heroes, items etc. Builder races had lots of different upgrades for their units and buildings. There was even one Sim city type builder race, that had to create residence to get inhabitants, then build food for them and workplaces to increase your own income. You could increase or decrease the tax they payed, which affected their happyness etc. And ofc for defence this race could build a police station to create marine type units.

With all the different types of races and buildstyles along with send creeps to opponent for income aswell created alot of diversity and possibilities for this map. Would have loved to see somethin similar pop up in SC2

After downloading one of these maps, IE: Behemoth.. how exactly do I launch it so that I can play against the computer?

What he said. Guessing we might have to start the map editor, load a map and then there might be some test function for it? Or am I totaly off here?

Yeah, actualy tested that one. Good concept, but needs alot of tuning and balansing. Also thought that players shouldn't be able to see the entire map, fow is needed on that map imo

posted a message on Remakes of old wc3 custom maps

Was just wondering if anyone had seen any remakes of a few maps.

Warlocks - Arena style, different abilities and objective just to be last man standing.

Orcs vs Elves - elves were weak, and had to mine gold to buy buildings + units, blocked of narrow spaces with buildings to keep safe from orcs. Orcs were big and bad, hunting down elves. Both had alot of upgrades and was a realy fun game cause there was so many options. There were also other games of this type, where someone controlled the strong units, that hunted the weaker ones that had to build+team up to win.

Pudge wars - Hook people on the other side, and kill. simple map, but realy fun when playing with friends.

Already seen a game that looks realy nice and promising, called Hex'd. It reminded of Warlocks, but with a different style. With more upgrades and tuning I think this will be an awesome game eventualy. Played this for 5 hours straight when I first found it :D Anyone else have any good findings and games that look promising?
