I'm actually drawing on LoL for a lot of ideas on my AoS style map (I'm using elements of HoN as well). LoL is definately less competitive than HoN, but I find the HoN community is by far the worst I've ever encountered. S2 games did a fantastic job with the hud/overlay, but they didn't even bother to try and expand on what dota did, simply sticking with the status quo.
Season 1 is starting soon for LoL anyway, and with that comes competitive play.
I'm not sure how I forgot that one, but I'd definitely be interested. I have some ideas for terrain, but I would like to hear yours. Feel free to pm over the board.
I'm currently looking to start development on an AoS style game. I am NOT reproducing DotA/HoN, I'm hoping to take the game in a slightly different direction, however while staying true to the genre. I'm looking for some like minded individuals that might be interested in this project. Currently I'm focusing on data/trigger, I'm looking for one or more talented individuals with experience in data/triggers, and one or more talented individuals with art skills (3d/2d modeling, etc).
Originally I was going to do an Final Fantasy themed AoS game, and that might still be the case. However I'm open to ideas.

Unfortunately this isn't true. That Chrono Trigger 3d fan remake I was talking about? they were non-profit as well and look what that got them. The only final fantasy fan made game currently in development, is a vintage style game called Final Fanatasy Zero. However they are only using the name, and all the characters are original.
highly unlikely they will sue you. However Square Enix are known to reign in anyone who tries to reproduce their IP. A few years back, a couple of people tried to create a 3d remake of chrono trigger. SE filed a C&D against them, and they had to shut down. This wasn't just one instance, this happened to another team trying a similar project.
If you're trying to reproduce their games, they will definitely hunt you down and slap you with a C&D. However if you're creating something original using the final fantasy property, chances are you'll be okay. I guess you could always argue that you're promoting their product, not so sure how that will hold up in court.
Why port final fantasy xiii over to sc2? I thought the game was one of the worst (if not thee worst, I think final fantasy 8 holds that title). You guys should of just done something more original, or perhaps tried to remake one of the classic games (like Final Fantasy 6).
