Yup, i like that picture, actually that's what first came to mind when blizzard announced their custom game system back in the day before beta... Go post that on the Bnet forums and ask people to rate it so blizzard can see it.

That's fine, but it doesn't answer the question why there is a need to see the individual games? Like I said, I'm not saying it's a bad idea or anything, just wondering why you actually need to see individual games. It's a pretty standard thing with game servers lists to do that, but normally there are other reasons that don't apply to battle.net/starcraft 2

you don't "need" to see individual games, but you can see them if you want to. And the reason you would want individual games is for (off the top of my head):

    1. Game mode purposes (no pick, all random, etc.)
    2. Number of players in lobby maybe you don't want join a game that has 1/13 players, but you want to join one with 12/13.
    3. Passworded games (private games).

Not a bad idea, but won't that just result in heaps of the same game showing up? Is there an advantage to that?

With games like TF2 it's a bit different, because you actually have different servers in different locations hosting each game, so it's useful to split up the list as you want to join the server with the lowest ping, or find your ISP's server etc.

With blizzard it's a little different since they actually host all of the games.

If I'm going to join a custom bnet game, it doesn't really matter which game I join. If I want to play with friends, I create a part and join as party. So in what situation do you need to list all of the custom game (including duplicates) separately?

(not saying it's a bad idea or anything, just trying ti understand why/what advantage you actually get out of it).

You can turn simple list on, which will do what you want it to do, group all the servers by map, which is what we have now with bnet 2.0 without the popularity sorting. It's a win-win situation, can't go wrong with what is known to already work.

Make it like what Valve has done to Team Fortress 2. You have your good old tried and true server lists that can be sorted in whichever way you want, plus you can turn that into a simple list which will group all the servers by maps (what blizzard tried to do) achieving what we have now in Bnet 2.0 without the popularity sorting.

"Cocksucker" is also "just" a word. It's still quite offensive, and I would be willing to bet that you can easily find people who will be offended by it, even when it is just presented alone.

Dyke is also offensive to many people. Despite the fact that it is also used to refer to a dike, the slang usage (which, more often than not, is used in the same derogatory sense as "faggot") is the primary use of the word in many places.

Are you seriously on Blizzard's side with this? that's my real question.

Calling it now, mouse tracking will be a fucking disaster with battle.net lag.

yup, gj blizzard, let's add more useless features that will lag like hell on bnet, cause that's what the custom game scene is missing right now... not a complete revamp of the awesomeness that is the popularity system, no no, we need mouse tracking, a DOTA clone (because we don't have something like this), left to die (L4D2 is $7 on steam). woot !

I released the totally half finished version of my map and within a few hours i was at about 30ish plays an hour with no artificial boosting, had my map been finished and good to go i'm pretty sure it woulda climbed the charts.

only to be sent back to where it came from after a reset or after it gets played a little... there's no denying it, this popularity system sux.

OK, I am SO EXITED to have all those new models for use in the editor. Also, I love the chess theme they have set up. Can't wait to play it, should be better than the poorly made DOTA maps we get sometimes.

    Discuss.

OK, i'm TERRIBLY NOT excited, because we already have DOTA like games that NO SC2 mod will ever be remotely as good... HON, LOL, the upcoming DOTA 2 from valve... if you like playing DOTA style games, i strongly suggest you purchase HON, your money will be well spent.

    @Hokibukisa: Go

Pretty much what op said... i have no interest in spending hours boosting my map just so i can try it with the number of people it's supposed to be played at.

My friend and i had just finished working on our dungeon style map, we wanted to test it a little just for balance purposes, we've already ironed out all the bugs and stuff, we just want to see the difficulty of the encounters and their feasibility... but alas, we would need to spend about 2 hours boosting it just so we can get a total of 5 players (because you need to be 5 to do most encounters).

I was expecting some real answers in this blizzcon but was very disappointed... i can't believe they actually told that one guy to advertise his map on forums and stuff, and what pisses me ever more is that no one even confronted them about how crappy their popularity system is, like seriously? you just got told to advertise your map on random forums and you're just gona take that as an answer and walk away?

I'll wait for their so called "premium map" service to come out, if they don't bring some major changes by then i'll probably be done with modding SC2.

You guys are really missing the point here.

There are two key things you need to realize - context and connotation.

The context of a word is as relevant as its meaning. This is why Nexus Word Wars was hit so hard - it wasn't some character saying shit in a campaign in a situation where it would make sense. You have to realize that a good amount of people actually have to be offended and report the map to even do anything - people don't get offended because the word "dyke" is used in reference to a levee, but when you remove any context from it, it could very easily be interpreted as offensive (also, in the US, I've never heard anyone use the word "dyke" in reference to a levee). It's probably just best to stay away from having words with ambiguous meanings that could be interpreted as offensive, especially when given without context. A word like "tug" would not be offensive, because no one would even think of that as sexual, and even if they did no one reasonable would be annoyed by it.

Secondly, about half of the "draconian restrictions" that Blizzard is enforcing specifically mention connotations, not reference. This means that it doesn't matter that your map references the continent of Europe or the countries within. What matters is if you try to imply that Great Britain is the worst country in the world to live in, that everyone who lives there is actually moderately retarded, etc.

@illegal drugs/activities, stimulants aren't necessarily illegal drugs, and stimpacks are obviously not illegal. If you want to depict illegal actions (someone mentioned the party game "Mafia"), try doing it in a way that doesn't actually imply illegal actions. For example, regarding Mafia, you could have the mafia be a bunch of shapeshifting aliens, and suddenly you can end up with the same game, but without anything that could even remotely imply illegal actions.

Extreme violence does not mean "people shooting each other". I would recommend you try to avoid including mutilation and brutally explicit torture.

the words in NWW have no context they are just words... how can someone get offended by them? Your argument is not on par my friend.

Blizzard sent me an email with the list of bad words that caused Nexus Word Wars to be banned. Apparently, there was more offensive words on my dictionary, such as "jesus."

You can see the full list on the link below: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/general/general-chat/13745-blizzards-letter-about-nexus-word-wars/

This is actually quite funny because if this is truly their view on things, then there are a lot of content in the campaign that should be deemed inappropriate.

wow i can't believe this went on for 8 pages, props Sixen for taking all the heat lol. My 2 cents, when something is obviously flawed you expose it, you don't hide it and hope that no one sees it...

By the way, just wait for the premium maps feature to kick off, i'm pretty sure Blizzard will take action when money gets involved.

You could just add a behavior whenever the ability finishes casting. You can have said behavior disable spell casting for x amount of time.

^that, best and easiest way imo. In fact you don't even need triggers for this, simply add that behavior through the data part of the ability.

posted a message on Tower Defense Mazing - Stop Blocking Idea

    @nevjmac: Go

you can use built-in pathing cost of units to figure out if the unit is blocked or not. If the pathing cost of a unit returns -1 then this means there is no path to where the unit wants to go hence it's blocked. There are a couple of built in comparisons functions in the editor, cost between 2 points, or cost between a unit and a point, something like that, i used it for my TD map.

Also, there are validators that check if a unit is moving and at what speed. Tie them to a behavior of a sort, make it so when the unit is not moving the behavior becomes active and does its job. For example in my TD there's a behavior on all spawned units that's activated/deactivated by a validator (unit speed, or unit movement speed... something like that) and basically what this behavior does is simply turn collision off for the unit.

wth is wrong with the edit function of the forums? every time i press update nothng happens, then i press cancel and i see my updated post... I'm using chrome, is this a known issue?
