How well survivors do is directly related to how well they are able to work as a team. If you move as a group and cover each other (especially from rooftops in the city maps) you can do really well as survivors. This of course requires players to communicate, which would be the downfall. Unhurt players should take point while moving to ammo stashes or dropships, while those low on ammo or wounded should keep to the inside of a column. When I get done watching your commentaries I'll go through my replays and see if I have one saved where survivors won.

Fantastic idea, I support this wholeheartedly. Custom games really do deserve more attention than they get with mainstream players, imo.

As for suggestions, I adore Infection but it's really tough to get games to fill, as before last reset it was down to page 4 on US. Definitely worth a look.

I'd also mention SotIS, but I think it's gonna get lots of attention on its own.

EDIT: I also recommend Blood Pressure Marathon, if it gets released again. I haven't heard much from it since beta.

I'm sure many developers would gladly accept any help you could offer. Have you done any map projects to demonstrate what you're after? You could publish something the way you want it and possibly inspire others.

Blizzard wants the rights to anything developed as an ancillary project using their tools, running under their engine, on their servers, using their intellectual property?

    Preposterous!

    ...

If you want to make profits on your work, make a game and publish it yourself. You may end up with the next crimsonland or dwarf fortress or whatever. Setting up Max in a straw man argument in no way invalidates the claim of a company to control their own intellectual property.

I did go read the reviews on amazon... and it is ironic that LAN, regionalization, registering to play solo, and OMG 29 missions with one race instead of 10 each with all 3??? ... those issues don't bother/affect me at all.

I suppose my only real issue is the custom map system's lack of "browse new" features and the abuse of popularity listing. UMS maps will keep me playing for years, and I don't want to support a flawed UMS system. But, if Sixen fully supports it and that's the bread and butter here, it's good enough for me.

posted a message on Post-release opinion poll

So, instead of following my tradition of buying Blizzard releases at midnight, I cooled my heels on this one. I'm undecided between consumer rage and the likelihood that the game will well exceed the entertainment value that I'd put into buying it. My question is this:

For those of you that bought SC2 already, would you go back in time warn yourself not to buy it, given the chance? More clearly, are you disappointed enough that you want your money back?

E-rage and rudeness from the guy whose name uses X bookends and leetspeak on a hobby forum... shocking.

Don't let this weenie discourage you, the vast majority of people on this site are helpful to a T as long as you at least try and do your homework before you post a question. Asking someone to build a full map for you might not go over so well... but most of the time very friendly :)

Yeah I had good luck with them breaking early terran wall-ins. Hadn't considered putting them in mineral lines though, I'll have to use that one.

posted a message on Need help with story writing / lore on your project?

So which would come first, the story or the map? Seems like creating a story arc and then fleshing a map/campaign around it would be less limiting from a story perspective than taking something already complete and having to write around that. I've had the same idea myself but I'd be reticent to ask people to make awesome maps that illustrate a story and those that are willing to put time and effort into scripting a story into their maps already have their own plot ideas.

Still, I'd love to see a collaboration like this work out, I wish you best of luck.

posted a message on FF13 Leagal Issues

Let's take the entire situation to the best possible outcome (from the map maker's side). The FF mod works as intended to completely, faithfully remake FF13, and becomes a resounding success, on the order of DotA. And it's made with the SC2 engine, which is property of Blizzard, who does not own the FF IP. Now there's a sizable chunk of the market that has purchased SC2 to play FF modded for it. Now Blizzard has indirectly allowed fans to use Blizzard's property (the engine and editor) with someone else's unlicensed IP, to sell more copies of Blizzard's games. Would you be mad if someone did this to you? Why buy a playstation and FF for $X when I can buy SC2 and download the mod for $60?

Yeah, it's about profit, but everyone who makes games of that quality are making them to sell. If this was a general use thing the company would publish under the GPL or some other free use/open source license.

    Hata's gonna hate, yo...

But seriously what they've done with the campaign looks really good, and there's really nothing stopping a dedicated group from remaking the whole game to suit them, if they so choose. I'm glad there's tons of custom stuff to look forward to after I burn out on ladder play.

Ashamed? Yeah you should be ashamed!

... eh it sounded funny in my head.

I can give testing a go, just don't expect wtfamazing play if it's a hard map, but mechanics wise I'd be glad to lend a hand.
