im stealing an idea from an original starcraft custom game. but im building it up from scratch. is that stealing? (Coincidentally, since im also using it to learn map making im using all the original unit values for now:})
That's not stealing at all. Stealing is just taking someone else's work and slapping your name on/publishing. Similar maps just create more competition for each other. I guess a good comparison would be televisions, there's a ton of brands that are all competing for the best one. If Sony stole the blueprints for one of Samsung's TV's and just slapped their brand name on it though that would be equivalent to stealing.
I've never played WC3 so could you elaborate? I know in SC1 there were bounds and maps like "Escape the Prison!" where you and teammates would have to get past certain puzzles. Is that what you mean?
1) You can't change the team names as far as I know 2) Player numbers are assigned as people enter the lobby, there is no control over this 3) If you lock teams that should do that 4) Not sure about this one
So I can't let people choose what person they want to be before starting the map? I absolutely need this for my map, an option to choose in-game would not be feasible. And I think when I locked the teams, it wouldn't let me drag at all. I want to still be able to switch between teams, just not create a 4th team and screw everything up. I do have one idea though with Attributes that I'll try in a bit and report back.
So I'm trying to create the lobby for my map and here's some things I've run into and can't seem to fix:
- Change "Team 1" "Team 2" etc to something I want
- Allow you to drag/drop to the middle of a team, rather than just putting as 1st player
- Make it so that you can't drag to "New Team" and screw up the teams
- Player color in game variants only gives a limited selection of color to choose from
Yea.. it does, he could get in a lot of legal trouble if he put that into a map and published it on bnet. No joke.
And you spelt "fing" wrong (effing.)
Is Blizzard going to come knocking at his door with a warrant demanding to know if he used a licensed version of 3DMax? Are they going to somehow check to see if every author who made a map using custom models has a legit version of modeling software? I don't understand your point I guess.
I think you could add a requirement to the abilities to check if the population has been reached or not. Look at some building things to see the requirements they use to check if you are allowed to construct a unit or not. I'll be back later but I'm assuming that's how it's done.
Did you try both Pathing Footprint and Pathing Footprint - Placement? I think from the description of it Pathing Footprint - Placement should be what you want...
Does anybody know if you can get achievements on non blizzard maps? I was hoping to make a map where only I start with minerals to unlock some of the outmatched and vs Insane AI achievements lol.
Well nobody gets a chance to play the others since they are used to what's always at the top of the list, so naturally they just go back to playing that.

I've already read that thoroughly. :(

Hey, that's awesome!

Just a note - cases are a lot easier to work with for these sort of things instead of using multiple if then elses.

If you search for footprint under the unit in the data editor you should be able to change it.

Your post comes off as baiting to me, although you're points are correct. I don't really see why they would permaban you for that though...

Hmm, I'll try the periodic event first since that would probably be an easy fix.
And that makes a lot more sense Fellius. I guess my fundamental understanding of Events was wrong.
