if you download them from this site. just double click the file and open it up in the editor. to see in game do test map.
to play them online etc. you can't without uploading them (and anger the mapmaker and getting banned for any help in the future.)
to play the map online you need to find them in the b-net custom game list.
no triggers. triggers are clumsy
make a behaviour that scans 3 range for enemy ground units. if it found units let it check if he is attacking something. if not -> flee.
just select the unit (scientist in this case) search for a data point with weapons. and add the roach spit.
now go to the ability field of the scientist and add the ability attack
now go to the command card of the scientist. change scan move to use attack.
now your scientist can attack.
if you want to add an animation you need to go to the data fields but that part I to hate explain
that icon was always in the editor... only in black and white. last patch a lot of those icons got a colour one added.
so no. its really really unlikely that your map has added this icon.
if you still need a data editor. I think I can for fill the role for the bigger part (dunno if I'm good enough for what your looking for).
my own big project is done and require only bug fixes and kinda looking for the next one.
what are my experience.

can make kinda every spell possible and if it can't work I Make it work.
I did not mess allot with items and attachment but it took me 1-2 days to understand the major part of the data editor. don't think items and attachments would cause much of a problem.

made all units, hero's and spells from scratch (92 units, 31 behaviours, 49 ability's, 222 effects, 257 actors and lots of other crap like buttons, upgrades ,validators, etc)
if you need me I will hear it. otherwise I bet someone else can fill the role
(oh. 1 warning. I hate to clean up someone else his mess)
this is kinda the reason why i always copy every effect, actors, units etc. (only the ones I need for the less smart ones around)
that way i never edit any original data point and always have a backup

animations are selected under events of the actor. you just need to add there when weapon 1 used play animation 1 etc
