I strongly disagree with you. It is a pain in the ass to make that a happening. Do you know how expensive it really is to make a cloud server and maintain it for 5 years? Here's the reason why they decided to lockup the servers - since the new battle.net feature and the game itself requires more bandwidth than before games like Wc3 and sc1, they don't have the capacity to create 1 global giant server that could maintain every players around the world. Instead they have to divide the servers based on regions and anticipate the amount of bandwidth that they will need for each based on sales forecast on those regions within 5 years. Hence you cant migrate between servers now or you will mess up their bandwidth which in their accounting eyes is very EXPENSIVE. Especially having global upload means that they will have to divert traffic between servers for transfers of those map datas which will be EXPENSIVE also if you have 5 million people doing global upload.
However you didn't describe whether that rpg has awesome gameplay or not. If its a normal grinding type, players get bored easily! Quest-based rpgs where you can save your progress of the quests you're currently doing with your character were popular in Wc3. So far I've only seen people make linear and dull rpgs...
It has some merits to it, but mapmakers should and always place gameplay as a factor above all else. Because if you can create a gameplay that is simple to understand, competitive, balanced, and fun, then the popularity will boost no matter how huge your map is. However, normally it is easier to achive this in a medium size map like 8-10 players where the average game time is about 15-20 mins short.
Hey guys I was wondering, all this time I've never seen this issue addressed, but anyways wth happened to clan creation? I remembered in Warcraft III you can join channels, create clans, and have clan channels. Honestly, that was epic stuff, and now its no longer in bnet,...
-_-'
Or am I missing out here on the interface? Like there's a button where you can click to create a clan?
Nah I think it would be like the Android or iPhone market, they just charge software purchase. So if you buy a map liscence ur set and you can receive updates from then on too. However if you think about it, in one battle.net server, there are like 300,000 players, if 50% of the players buy your map priced at $6, and Blizzard gets a 50% share, then you get $3*300,000 = $900,000 (Optimistic range).
Yeah its so hard to find your map on the list... So I just create a room everytime I want to play, but people rarely join the room... Blizzard really needs to add a search box on the join game panel so that you can type the name of a map or author to search for it on the list instead of clicking the "more" button until you find what you're looking for...
They made this particular non peer to peer interface and system for the upcoming marketplace. And yes, they want to earn profit out of upcoming popular maps that are as trivial as DotA, but they will also let the author earn a share.
I think,
It's FAIR!
Just change the damn interface so that you can search maps by name/author and sort by popularity - descending/ascending order... That is all my complaint.
Ladies and Gentlemen, i bring you the NEW Haunted Temple

Oh and i dont reply anymore bc i keep telling ppl no but you guys just wont give up :)
I like ur map from what I've seen in the demo video... Lol I'll go try it out tonight. So far I've this general concern that so many maps in the battle.net especially the top ones are really bad. Yours is on top of my list for worthy maps : )
Lol it only makes sense when they have fake view posts in the map download forum considering the fact that most of those views don't reflect real download count by users, but they are using that exclusiveness of the map download section to attract many map submissions and downloaders while in fact its making the reverse effect. I remembered only Elemental TD being one of the most played wc3 maps that also happen to be in their download section, the rest I've never seen them so popular in bnet.
Hiveworkshops pwnz wc3c because they allow more maps to be published and they don't treat noobs like in Nazi fascism period. And I hope sc2mapster will not become like Wc3c!
I should be a really famous person in Wc3c considering the fact that I am DoOs_101 who brought alot of chaos to the map submission forum and had to be IP banned by Vexorian himself.

It looks really bad, to be honest... compared to other map trailers, especially ones made individually as to "studio"

I think this map lacks gameplay and variety... Castle Fight in Warcraft III is way better than this map...

Should be noted as important, many 3ps maps died becuz of this, includes Malu's great waterworks...
