I say my coding is so precious that I don't want anyone else to open my map, put his name in instead of mine and republish it under a slightly different name.

I'd also say that it's so precious that I don't want people to be able to cheat my storage system to gain an unfair advantage over others (level hacking in rpgs and stuff).

    Yea, I'd say that.

    THIS.

Yep this works just fine on EU, where you can get a comfortable bottom page 2 spot after 24h of boosting.
You can't imagine how fucked up is NA where everyone is doing this though, it's not really applicable there.

I'm not sure how they are going to split maps, since authors will never pick the right category themselves... still, I approve it if it means TDs and Tugs are going to be filtered somewhere else.

I think I saw 6 or 7... hundreds of those threads in the last five months.
Thing is, they don't read the Custom Maps forum.

Yeah it's just easier for people to whine and not put any effort in to supporting something. Human nature I guess.

It's also in our human nature not to click on that shiny Search button and see by ourselves how many threads full of suggestions were created since July, isn't it? Shame Beta forums were taken down, because you could find a lot more there and this very system was proposed dozens of times already in the past months.

    Looks solid, nice screenshots.

I'm fucking tired of reading threads about popularity system. Fucking, fucking tired.
Stop play attention whores about this and develop better maps. If your maps are not on the top of the list, that's just because they SUCK.

Don't worry, you are not tired. You are just stupid.
    1/10 for trolling.

MAPS HAVE MADE IT FROM THE BOTTEM TO THE TOP. QUIT QQ. There is a game that I have legit watched go from page 9 to page 5 followed by THE TOP of page 1. its the tank defence remake from sc1. Honestly, its what THE MAJORITY WANTS.

And it is God-awful, which should say something about how popularity works.
"Don't QQ, make games that the majority will like" doesn't even deserve an answer.

If you want to give up because of the current pop system..... GOOD RIDDENS SC2 would be better off with out you making your crappy maps anyways.

Wow, and this comes from someone who failed with a turret defense map?
    Pathetic.

Please try creating a map that needs a set amount of players to start, lasts longer on average, or requires any brain for that matter (we could name them "niche maps" at this point) and come back to tell us how fun it is to be on page 10, we will have a nice chat then.

If Desert Strike or Nexus Wars are popular maps, it's not for nothing. Instead of whining about the lack of substance in the maps, why not have a look at what's popular, try to understand why and then attempt to add those things into your maps?

To be honest, you are the only one here who doesn't understand why those maps are so popular.
It's okay if you think tug games are the best SC2 can offer, we won't judge you.

Its probably a good idea to abandon the project. Yeah, blizzard is destroying the map-making community, but guess what. Nobody cares. :) I'm serious, unless you are a map-maker you aren't affected. Judging by the number of games being played in custom game lobby, the regular people are very happy with nexus wars and the other tug games that had been here since release (and probably was there during beta).

Map-makers aren't important to the custom games. You may not like it, but the custom game section only needs about 4-5 maps and its good to go. Changing the popularity system might actually harm custom game players. If people are siphoned from the current popular games, it would take longer and longer for them to fill up. So if they fix popularity system, we'll have a hundred maps to choose from with each taking a while to fill up. If they keep the current system, maps will fill up in seconds but they only have 5 maps to choose from.

The biggest effect of the popularity system would be, if those tug game map-makers delete their maps. Then we'll see an uproar! .. and maybe a change to the popularity system.

    I 100% agree.

The popularity system is awful and we all know that, but the playerbase isn't helping here.
If people keep clicking on *random crappy map here*, it just means they like to play it over and over to have some fun inbetween ladder matches (not that there's something wrong here) and ANY new sorting, be it based on "hours played/day", "players in lobbies" or ratings of any kind will ultimately lead to the current situation. If any of you missed the last blogpost about custom maps, Blizzard is basically suggesting that instead of whining we should make our maps fun by dumbing them down so that players can fully grasp them in the first minutes.

I agree with those saying that the fun should be in the creation process, and it was at least for me.
On the other hand, though, acknowledging that nobody will ever play them leads to deep frustration.
Whatever you decide to do, keep in mind that nothing is going to change in the next months.

I like your approach. Something that can already be done shouldn't be brought to light because it could cause what already happens to happen more. . . so let's bury it and pretend it can't be done while we wait for Blizzard to fix it. . .

Oh, but that doesn't actually solve anything, does it?

Blizzard isn't going to do anything if we discuss about it, unless we start spamming on their forums.
Which we should, if you ask me.
In the meanwhile, teaching the remaining 99% of kids how to open locked maps is just wrong.
