I might throw in a new version of HLW for Map Night today, including 2 new heroes. I am almost finished.

    Looking forward to it.

Always thought ORPG meant Open-world role playing game

It is:p, ORGP means no linear story to follow, just do what you wish to do. (similar to The elder scrolls: oblivion for example)

posted a message on whats the most liked terrain?

My preference is forests and plains.. but anyone making terrain that makes proper use of doodads can make a terrain I like. Sometimes I feel people use too many doodads in a setting, while in others that loads of doodads actually adds well to the picture. Space areas can be nice, but I am someone that came from wc3 and just has more interest in forest-like terrain.

Just one thing, with screen buttons they are displayed for everyone. So if you try to make a multiplayer map you'll need to use dialog buttons. I can explain that tomorrow if you like, going to bed now.

Perhaps something like crystals, protoss often make use of crystals (buildings and such). It might fit with their culture?

    @Hookah604: Go

If you add that button to a command card and wish to use the button by pressing a key on your keyboard you can set which key you want to use for it there. So if you have the default Attack button for example, try hovering over the tooltip, blizzard made the hotkey letter in the tooltip title (A). So if you press A you can then just click to attack, same goes for your own buttons.

edit: probably misread your question, if you mean the other hotkey field. I think it might allow you to set several hotkeys for a single ability. Perhaps give it a shot?

Wow. I love the custom models. Thats not something you see often.

It are WoW models from what I can see. Including the icons. As for the video itself, it seems the combat system could be alot of fun. Most hero maps use the standard rts controls.

I haven't tried attachments myself but, is it not possible (for example with the first guy in the video) to make that attachment on his hand change with the same RBG changes as the main character? The glow attachment wouldnt really need to change, but the hand could look nicer if it also changed.

I think most of them looked good, only the high templar's alternate skins looked a bit ugly to me personally. Maybe others disagree, that and the attachment on his back seemed to misplace if you move. Other than that it looks great, keep going:P

please use pathing tool in editor

He explains he wants to keep reaper-like units functional, so that wouldn't really work the way he wants. As for that thing happening, I have seen it aswell on other maps but I have no clue how to fix it. It seems the blizzard cliffs are made that way.

Customization looks nice, I personally love games which add some customization to a character, makes you feel more unique and shows a character more in your own vision.

posted a message on best inexpensive game creator?

I believe that the more advanced companies create their own variations of code (i.e. galaxy) which is usually very similar to C + + mixed with Java and such. If you could learn C + + (which is quite a difficult language) then you will be capable of creating a game engine. But for a game engine you will need to be good at math aswell to be able to program physics which require lots of calculating. In a real company they probably have people good at math to create models for programmers so the programmers can make it. Knowledge of a single person is simply very limiting in today's industry, it is hard to get into the whole gaming thing especially on your own. It's evolved so much you really need to have specialists focussing on different aspects. For anything like an FPS spin-off you will definetely not get there on your own if you wish to have it as good as to-date's games. But you can make a very basic game first and learn from that and keep making better games and perhaps end up at a company where you can do 'the big' things.

posted a message on best inexpensive game creator?

To create games you either need to be very experienced and have a team to work with and build it from scratch or use an editor.. and indeed. 3dsmax is just a model creator, you just make 3d units or whatever you want with it but it's got nothing to do with making a game other than that. You could build a basic game engine yourself but it's going to be complicated and will take alot of time. You really need to be very good with programming before even trying such a thing.
