    posted a message on What modelling program is the best?

    @xSteamGearx: Go

    I've been using blender aswell, since it's free. It works good for me so far, I don't really use it for SC2 but you should be able to create models for it. The only thing however is that you must export the model into a different format which another program can open (3ds max for example) because the program someone made to change a blender file into a sc2 model file isn't up to date anymore. So blender would really just be a program used to make models, you can't export them directly into sc2 format.

    posted a message on Thinking about getting WoW....

    I've played WoW for a very long time, since TBC, played all classes and if I compare what it is now with what it used to be, there have been many improvements but the main thing of the game, which is playing together with social people.. has been made much harder. Some things have definetely changed for the worse, which is mostly caused by players, but also stimulated by the design changes they have made. Playing WoW for the first time is definetely fun but once you get to max level and want to do anything at all you WILL come across alot of annoying people.

    The game has been made much more accessible for new players, but lost its challenge completely pre-max level because of that and even max level is boring now. There used to be alot of options while levelling which were more aimed at hardcore players, challenging things. This is what I personally prefer, others might not. It depends what you are after, the game becomes a grind and you will get 'reset' all the time with patches and expansions. I quit for the reason that the server I was on didn't feel like a community anymore, it basically turned into 'gearscore or begone'. I wouldn't recommend WoW now, the MMO project blizzard is working on is Titan will be better (no name set yet) and it will probably be announced within 1 year perhaps a little longer. I'd wait for that, I personally am done with the whole MMO things, they waste your time, force you to grind. Once you get what you want you will already need to grind for new things. It works for their money, but it has burned me off the game.

    Any idea how to set text size on "button" or "label"? If I change size of the button the text doesn't scale for its new size.

    When you are editing the text for the label you can also press a button on that little window that allows you to edit text (color, font, size).

    In honesty, the internet is the place where many people lie, why? Well, in theory everyone can figure out what you do on the internet so it's safer. Aswell as the fact there's always a minor chance that some wacko goes after a young person. The chance might be one out of hundreds of millions but still. I played with people of various ages and usually, before anyone knew my age they always thought I was at a different age than I really was, calling people 'annoying 12 year olds' is what happens alot but in the end it makes no sense. I've met people online that are young and were much more mature and fun to play with than with adults that 'should' know how to behave.

    @DrSuperEvil: Go

    I really can't seem to figure out how to use a persistant along with a validator. I have tried searching for some tutorials that explain it but I couldn't find one that makes things any clearer for me. Perhaps I could attach my map so you can take a look at my effects/etc?

    posted a message on Unit move towards/return ability

    I have created a behavior in the data editor that searches in an area front of a unit with a period of 0.4, and if it finds a target it will issue a move order towards the point where it found the target. Now what I am trying to do is make the unit that has this ability return to his original position before he found the target if he can no longer find it for one search period. I am making this so that I can let a unit trigger combat if you get too close, portalling you elsewhere. But you can outrun that unit and avoid combat that way, when that happens it should return to his starting position. (if possible facing direction aswell)

    As for the ability itself, it is just a behavior applied to a unit that uses a search effect and a move issue order effect to get to the target. I already made a return effect (move issue order) but I couldn't really figure anything out with that one.

    That's my problem. Any units I send take the alternative route and ignore their previous route because there are two routes to take to the their destination.

    Perhaps add pathing blocking to the middle of your spawn and have both sides spawn just aside of that so that it seems as if they spawn on the same spot but can't reach eachother other than by going all the way to the other side.

    Thanks for the help, it seems I used a point as impact location. Setting it to 'Source unit' fixed it. (I'm a noob at data, still learning:P)

    posted a message on [solved] Cone (Aura-like ability) angle issue

    I have made an aura that applies a buff to units in an arc of 140 degree, radius 8. However, the search seems to only be searching to the south of the unit which has the aura behavior and instead, I want the search area to search in a cone in the direction the unit is facing.

    So if the unit faces west, I want the search area to search to the west, using the same arc. I have no idea why it only seems to be searching south. Any help would be great.

    It seems no matter which side you are on, you will always see the bottom revealed, even when you are the top team. But when you are the bottom or top team the top is not revealed.

    edit: Just checked this replay and in that one only I seem to have the bottom revealed while I'm the top team, perhaps there is something a little different bugged.

    I've noticed that massing the top row units (in tier 2 & 3) will be more efficient than buying the expensive units once you are at a high income (60% to buying the next tier so to speak) because it simply overwhelms the opponents.

    I played 2v3 with my brother against his friends today and we won because we knew the map better, but also because we could eventually just mass so much and there was nothing to be done about it. This might lead to another thing, you can currently upgrade your items to very limited levels. After a while it becomes impossible to keep up no matter how you play, perhaps intended to make sure games dont last too long. But if you could choose a game mode at the start for long game or short game where short would keep the current items and long would add more upgrades it could work.

    One of the things warcraft 3 had was having the whole lane revealed, while I see you intend it to be the way it is now, perhaps you could at least reveal the area with the shop/right side so you can look at some items without running all the way back.

    Also managed to win a 1v2 with only 9 lives left on my side.. epic battle and hard. I really love how you made a map similar to the old HLW, one of my favourite wc3 maps.

    There is a limit on the amount of cliff heights, I'm not sure when/if they are going to change it. All you could do is use the lower/height terrain and paint no pathing over it.

    I have never made a screensaver myself, but would it not possible to record a battle like you mention and then play it as a screensaver? Should cost lots less power for your computer aswell with not having to run sc2 and all that.
