Rodrigo, I like debates, but i don't think changing themes isn't going to really kick it up much.

If you want debates to really break out of where it's at you need to add something different. You've done other mods with actual gameplay, find a way to merge debating with gameplay, bring the core strengths of starcraft 2 into your mod like other top mods do.

It could be sorta like battle chess: When a peice is taken you get to see a little skirmish between the peices, half the fun of the game was watching these cool little cinematics. If someone loses a round of the debate soundedly there could be a close up of an SCV being ripped to shreds by ultralisks with the debaters name over their head. I think you could come up with some pretty funny montages to show how badly people got beaten in the debate, or how close it was.

There could even be themes, like a debate about abortion, if someone wins big time on the pro side, maybe show a bunch of babies running around and have marines come in and massacre them (not saying you should do this, just an idea! haha)

posted a message on Sc2 Bar jokes (submit one if ya got em!)

A dude walks by his newly renovated favorite bar, sign says "All you can drink happy hour". "Hell yeah!" he thinks, "I'm going to have some drinks, have a grand old time".

The place is flooded by underage kids. He's at the back of the line and these kids are just ordering Shirley Temple after Shirley temple. After hours and hours of waiting he finally manages to push his way to the front of the line and orders a double rum and coke. Thinking the bartender would be happy to see someone ordering a real drink he jokes, "What's wrong with kids these days? When i was their age I snuck into bars and got MESSED UP."

The bartender doesn't respond, just goes back to serving watered down Shirley temples to the patrons. For months this goes on, he doesn't even bother going in any more, but when he peeks his head in all he sees are kids ordering Shirley Temples.

One day things are different though, the bar is having a contest "Make the best drink, win a prize!". This could be fun, at the very least he'll show the punks what a real drink is. So the man enters the bar and makes a respectable drink names it the "Good ol' Times", strong as hell, a drinkers drink. Certainly the bartender would judge this highly, looking around he saw only a few other actual drinks, the kiddies were making variations of Shirley temples. The time for judging came, all the winning drinks were Shirley Temples. WTF!?, the man stormed out in disgust, "I need a f*cking smoke he thinks" and heads to the back of the bar and lights one up. Some of the other drink makers were out back too.

"What a load of garbage" the man says to one of the teens having a smoke, "those winning drinks were terrible". "Yeah, I agree, I tasted your drink it was really pretty damned good" "Yours too man" "My younger brother was one of the winners. He got to talk to the bartender after he won, told him he couldn't award a winner to a drink with alcohol in it." "Balls" "Yep"

So the man left the bar and vowed never to go back, wondering how the hell the place would ever turn a profit.

Ever since they'd been bought out by the larger chain the place just f*cking sucks.

Yeah... i guess Mephs post could have been a bit more mature. But as someone else burned very badly by blizzard's mod community I very much related to it.

And you don't need to write code to mod UDK, in fact I earned an honoreable mention in the make something unreal contest for best FPS mod using nothing but kismet, a visual based script editor.

Anyway, i just felt this post wasn't accomplishing anything, seemed like whining about whining, and now here i am whining about the whining about the whining :P.

Yeah, it was a bummer. I got a little teary eyed rereading my recruitment post. Cosmic Eclipse was so close to a worthwhile first release... c'est la vie

Keep in mind, people don't join teams to be a mindless slave (unless you're paying them).

If you want anyone worth their salt, you're going to have to give them some creative control or there's no incentive. As you've stated you seem to have very hard times dealing with others so i'm not sure this would be an option. From personal experience it's incredibly hard to find someone to do dedicated data editor work.

There are some very well documented problems not only with the popularity system but the editor. This is NOT an amazing editor. The warcraft 3 editor was an amazing editor and spawned far more groundbreaking mods than this one did. Try the UDK (unreal developement kit), THAT is a f*cking amazing game editor.

Getting angry about legitimate issues is not immature, change often comes because enough people got angry about common concerns. To be honest it's your naive defense of blizzard's (awesome) editor that comes off as immature and a bit fanboyish.

posted a message on News regarding Bnet Marketplace

    @Sixen: Go

I respect your blizzard loyalty and I think for anyone running a site such as this that's great to have. But I'd be very surprised to see any kind of blizzard marketplace for SC2 mod content. This news is long coming and it's going to be long and drawn out moving forward to minimize bad PR.

Mark my words blizzard will slowly retract all the promises made concerning the marketplace and just try to wring out as much profit out of starcraft 2 with some hastily put together sequels. Blizzard Dota will be sub-par at best (I bet they're already trying to think of ways to cancel it without looking like morons considering DOTA 2 from valve will likely destroy this mod in quality). We likely wont see any more blizzard custom games considering the total disaster the already released 3 turned out to be.

Make all the suggestions you want, they will fall on deaf ears. They're cutting their losses. No one on this SC 2 team either has the passion or power to make this game the worthy successor of the blizzard RTS franchise.

A mapmaker threw a fit to draw attention to a horribly broken system that has crushed the souls of many map makers.

You are throwing a fit over this fit for what purpose? To save blizzard's feelings?

If you're self motivated you can learn a ton just buying DVD's such as gnomen or eat3D. I can also recommend sites such as gameartisans.org and polycount.com

There are a wealth of digital resources out there that wont cost you an arm and a leg, and in the current economy that's very important.

BTW. It seems every day major companies are firing their art staff, now is not a good time to be a game artist (I'm personally having trouble finding a full time gig but have some commission work currently). Maybe things will have gotten better by the time you're out of school, but you may seriously want to consider another job path with more security, I would highly recommend it.
