Facts:
Starcraft 2 went free today,
Custom games are free (on rotation),
Valve debuts Dota 2 later this month,
There is a visible rivalry between Blizzard and valve over the dota brand,
Blizzard Dota has been under wraps for almost a year,
Blizzard has dropped the ball with this community at every corner (sorry had to throw that in)
Prediction:
Before DOTA 2 comes out, blizzard will release blizzard DOTA proving they weren't too busy surfin' the nets at work to fix the custom community, they were simply too busy chasing their rage filled hatred for Valve in the hero arena genera.
Wrong or right it'll be interesting to see how things shape up between these two titles.
Have you tried cosmic eclipse? I'd like to think it wasn't half bad. There are tons of good maps no one played or are playing, the entire system is a joke, this is the issue.
The problem is everyone complains in all the wrong places, there has been no concerted effort to make any stand oustide of blizzard's standard forums which they control.
I dunno, maybe this is all just dumb. Does blizzard owe us? Probably not. But the warcraft 3 mod community was just so speicial. It's like watching nasa die. There was this glorious thing and it just fucking died due to greed and ignorance. Just a damned shame.
The saddest part is, blizzard doesn't even want you guys around. They're just slowly suffocating this community hoping no one notices. The leadership of this site has blizzard's dick so far up their ass it's embarrassing.
Edit: Taking out misdirected anger. There are talented people here and it pisses me off no one has raised enough fuss that the community has noticed how much blizzard has fucked us all over. They have deliberately stagnated the gaming community and no one has the balls to call them out on it. Post, cause a fuss, they deserve it. But as is, they're sitting on their easy 9 to 5 cuz you guys don't have the balls to make change for the greater good.
I hate to have to say this, you seem like a nice guy Sixen and i'm happy for you, but it seems like the map community is suffering (and has suffered) for blizzards preferential treatment of websites that cater to their whims and smile while the whole community goes down the tubes. Just seems so shysty on their end, throw out a couple back stage passes and suddenly they have major influence of a community they have outright trampled over.
I would much prefer transparency to the community and fans who have poured a year into their failure of a custom map service, to this day still giving them the benefit of the doubt. Moves like this seem like BS to be frank and a slap in the face to the grunts on the front lines making the maps because they trust blizzard. I could be wrong, maybe they will answer all kinds of hard hitting questions about what has happened and what will occur, I will be pleasantly surprised.
Not a personal attack on you sixen, stoked you get to see blizz again, you're dedicated to this and you've earned it, i'd do the same thing in your shoes and I were your age. But blizzard has been relying on their fans' blind optimism to help keep their eyes off their intentional negligence regarding the mapping community for too long without taking any form of responsibility. I'd like to think you're about to hold their hand to the fire, but i'm more inclined to believe you'll simply be star struck. What would be awesome is if they brought you over with a fan made list of important questions and answered them honestly with the intent of righting what's wrong with a bit of acknowledgment of what has occurred over the past year.
Again, it would be great if creation22 was heading over too, and blizzard fulfilled a single promise to this beaten community.
I'm not a big scary movie fanatic, but i do have some funny stories about 'em.
The ring scared the shit out of me. Leaving the theater a little girl was walking by and i made the remark to my buddy "don't fuck with her" halfway joking. Well i get home and go to the website for the ring because i'm obsessed with it at this point. I open up other internet tabs and continue on my web serfing way. Later i decide I want to listen to music, it's 2am and i'm still a little freaked out by the movie. What i didn't know is the website i had gone to was full of ambient sounds from the ring, i put my headset on and damn near shit my pants.
Event horizon was the shit. I was at a party back in the day where we watched it in high school. I thought i was a trooper because everyone else had gone to sleep and i was the only one up. I was scared to shit watching that alone towards the end. During one of the most intense moments my buddy ripped the loudest fart you could imagine behind me without even waking up. I damn near shit my pants.
