They could be afraid of the additional bandwidth it would consume. For example: some massive multiplayer map that involves real-time connection between all instances of its games. If they do implement it, they'll probably greatly limit it to only function at the beginning and end of a game. Even then, I'd still be satisfied with a limited implementation because it's still magnitudes better than storing banks locally on client's computers.
I say release something that's playable so that you can get lots of feedback on how to improve the game. Something that closely resembles the gameplay of the finished version is fine by me.
The popularity system combined with the bnet custom community causes low standards to propagate, so map makers will think it's sufficient to release an unfinished product without investing too much time on the map.
Keep in mind people are making maps on their free time w/ little reward as incentive. If maps were a commercial product, I would have higher standards and expect the map to be a finished product.
I don't think putting an already popular map as the first map is gonna work. The community will just deem the Map of the Week as someway to split the community or some ripoff trying steal popularity.
Icons as in dialog icons? You should've have to worry about those sizes since they scale depending on the player's resolution. Like setting an item or icon to size 64x64 will not be 64x64 pixels.
What might be worrysome is the aspect ratio. If you built a dialog interface from a wider screen like 16:9, items might overlap in say 4:3 ratios.
I'm talking about the map DotA was based on. I'm trying to look for any gameplay details and pictures on it but nothing. All that comes up is either DotA-related genre that has no relation to sc1, or some sc1 melee map that just so happened to be called Aeon of Strife.
Anyone want to enlighten me on the details of this game? Perhaps a map download so I can see it in the old sc1 editor? I'm starting to believe this thing doesn't exist. There just has to be more info about the fundamental basic map that spawned the massively popular genre that is DotA.

We've been urging Blizzard to add this for over a year but to no success. :(
I even wanted them to allow us to store all the data so they don't have to worry about storage: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3053897261

NotD, the other map that featured, now has almost 50% more popularity after getting featured.
I would say getting featured is working now.

I'm sure it's possible albeit a bit frustrating. This is when quick save/loading are your best friends: f5 & f8 keys respectively.

I've been following this for a while. Great to see it on the front page again! :)

Currently on my 2nd playthrough on hardest difficulty stealth pacifist run. Surprisingly not too difficult since I know the maps a lot better.

Pray to god that retrieve bnet handle is a string. Finally can protect banks from getting swapped at least.
