I would also make it so the sun shines brighter every day for you if you could add the SC1 sounds.

No you don't need to be good at SC to make maps. Map making is to change EVERYTHING, ruleset and all, to create new games based on what the developers put in the original version.

That said I suck too, but I still plan on becoming a mapmaker! I do want to make epic games myself.

Lol thanks, though I'm probably going to pass as a mad man now with my eh..."additions" :P

Wonder if Blizz would actually consider that if the thread becomes big enough. Then both my Starcraft related dreams would come true.

EDIT: Btw if you think posting in that thread is an embarrassment, how do you think I feel? I'm the guy that would rather have an Overlord than a cat!

    ...Then again, who wouldn't?

posted a message on Undocumented Editor changes [Patch 11]

This issue was brought up by FrozenFirebat,

Apparently Thors in the maps now need their cannon abilities now to be researched before use. So changes in the game will affect whatever rulesets are in the editor. Even if you've already got Thors in your map previously (or any other unit).

Not sure if that's relevant or not to the undocumented changes.

I just saw that some people started helping and in fantastic ways! Thank you so much!

By all means, delete things I've said that are wrong, and if whatever I've said is right, delete the lines that are asking for help to elaborate, this will make the wiki be much more informative.

posted a message on [Misc] The Galaxy Editor Overview needs YOU!

    Hello everyone!

The map making community needs you!

(TL;DR: we need help editing the Galaxy Editor Overview page here)

Every day, millions of newbie map makers come, open the editor, say "WTF?!?", look around the web for a big nice tutorial, can't find a complete enough one, get discouraged at all the stuff, then go back to playing the main game, effectively dying as potential map makers.

What killed them? The complexity: Not Understanding (a.k.a NU).

Even now, the NU disease is affecting most of us, making us go "What's this?" when heading to obscure options, going "Omg, what's all this?!" when opening a new window! Or worse: going "Lol, I'll just ignore that weird button, dunno what it does"!

Alot of potential ideas lost, distorted, thought impossible...

because we don't understand the editor fully and what it's really capable of hence why we're afflicted with the NU disease!

Still reading? Good, now the solution: a database. Combat ignorance and doubt with knowledge! Make nothing unclear or vague!

Want to fight the good fight? Want to exterminate all doubt and breathe new, informed life on the map making community? Read on!

What we need help is with this! You find in this link a bunch of links, each leading to one of the many portals to every function the Galaxy Editor is capable of.

Basically, we need your help filling this

    Oh and btw

anyone can edit the wiki pages as long as you're registered!

"Uh..." you might say. Relax, read on:

    • Select any section you desire. Now you'll see one of two things:
    • The section is filled out but it needs fixing. In this case:
      • Read all of the section, make sure everything is correct in content.
      • Improve the content by making sure the organization is top notch, the language is clear, informal language works well.
      • Make sure it's clear by adding screenshots if there aren't any.
      • Cover as many possibilities as possible, because some options change depending on the circumstances.
      • Make sure that the not-so-obvious options have a section that explains what it's useful for.
    • The section is empty. In that case, we'll want your help filling it out. What to do?
      • Go to the Editor, and access that specific section with the program. (So if areas of the "Map" section are empty, you go to the editor, go the "Map" area...)
      • Understand as much as possible about what you come across that section.
      • Document it, even if you don't understand, someone will come along who understands and rectify it.
      • Take screenshots if you can, and include them there.
      • Be sure to state what the option is really useful for, if what it does would make anyone go "ok, and I would need that why?"

Remember: the more information, the better. The clearer the better. Keep the language as simple to understand as possible, and if there are unusual terms, explain them in as simple way as you can. Also, redundancy is good!

You can stop reading now unless you're really interested in helping the effort. I'll thank you for your help and really hope you can just take 4 minutes or something to go check out a section and just help fill it out with your expertise.

Now if you REALLY want to help:

The Archivists, a team, is now open for people joining. Well it's really a one man team for now, but I need like-minded people to help me with this task! Here's the team overview and here's the the forum post about this particular project. If you want to join, just PM me or contact me, I'll add you and we can better coordinate the effort.

Thank you very much, happy informed map making!

posted a message on A full compilation on (almost) every button in the Editor

Hello everyone! Newbie mapmaker and online newbie guy here.

So I set off to explore the map editor, and decided what would be excellent, is a complete glossary of all the terms/buttons and other important things that has to do with both Editor functions and map making that would be organized in the fashion that the Editor presents users with.

EDIT: To be clear, I am talking about a compilation, as in a guide. A written guide.

Basically, it's looking from top to bottom at the editor, saying this does that, and if you click this you end up here, and here you have these buttons which do this and that.

No function should be a mystery, and should be explained in layman's term for people like me.

Now I'm going to do this project ANYWAY for my own personal self, word file and categorized, I just thought that maybe, there are others like me, and maybe it would benefit a lot of people.

    So I created this in Battle.net: http://forums.battle.net/thread.html?topicId=24401904947&sid=5000

Here's the gist, I have two things: 1) If possible, I would like to create an additional ONLINE backup of this thread, and truth be told, this seemed to be the most appropriate place for this. Yes I already have a word backup file for this, I know, but I have only one Online version of this.

    2) By doing so, people, if they are as mad as I am, would be able to help contribute on both sides, a contribution which would be really appreciated because of time constraints, IQ constraints and technical constraints. And here I'm assuming you people really know this editor inside out, so the best people to turn to for my mad, mad project.

Again the objective here, is to create a "What's this button do?" thread, organized in the way the Editor organizes it. People confused can CTRL+F search their term, they can cycle through the categories to explore all facets, and they would be able to scan the thread and take notes on the functions they find interesting and that they might want to keep in mind.

    Thanks again!
