    Mimic needs some sort of "trickery" abilities:

    - Bulls Eye - Causes all minion allies to focus on the target that the mimic chooses. Has a short cooldown timer.

    - Mistaken Identity - Causes a target unit to be attacked by it's allies for 10 seconds. Can only work on 1 target PER mimic hero.

    - Terrain Specialist - Causes the mimic to take the disguise of a piece of doodad, treated as a neutral unit but can be targeted by others.

    Well, at least the common units don't own your hero that easily. Seriously, sotis has common units that easily take 50% of your heroes hp in less than 5 seconds if they manage to mob you even a little. DoTA styled map with heroes means just that, your hero is above par to the common enemies, not similar. The only way i'd accept having common mobs being that strong is if there is a hero who's designed to lead the minions (buffing allies and ordering them to do something unique).

    posted a message on Blizzard's letter about Nexus Word Wars

    Rather than adding words from a dictionary, think smart and add words RELATED to SC2!

    Planets, Characters, Units, Structures, Ingame "Slangs", etc.

    There's enough content (if you take several hours or days) to fill up the new dictionary with.

    Maybe play single player, or open up campaign maps, and search out any "interesting" words.

    Or better yet, ASK the community to help! Need a SC2 word? Ask the mappers!

    The 2000+ users viewing the forums isn't there to just chat you know...

    Also...

    Please! No more double digit math!!!!!!!

    You can use youtube to add text in your videos, so you don't need to type out every line in the game. And it should not take more than 3 minutes to do so when all you do, is pick a timed area, then add the text and type it out.

    posted a message on DotA 2 by Valve

    If it's Dota 2, it needs to be changed so it can have the classic 5v5, and will include newer stuff to give players a twist... Not repeat the same kind of rounds over and over again.

    I got bored with these kind of games not from the raging competition, but from the stupid repetitiveness...

    Fuel is added to the fire when people rage quits etc.

    A 8v8 "attack and defend" mode may be neat... - Includes more players in one game. - Promotes greater team work since the gameplay is different.

    Attack and defend is just that, the defenders have to progress their armies carefully while the attackers start off with a decent army and limited resources. Points are gained for how far you fought through the game, like if the attackers can't beat down the defender's territory in time, they lose and defender gain points.

    It alternates 3 times and the rounds are fairly short, around 1020 minutes.

    Note sure why the hate for LoL, it's a great game, constantly being updated, again free but with a store that is fair. Just the fact you can play and unlock heros as you go, or just plunk down 30 bucks and go nuts in the store is awesome.

    Never cared for DOTA in WC3, never felt polished really, but again it was just a mod :p

    I really wish the phrase DOTA wasn't trademark, should be like King of the Hill or Capture the Flag to me, but hey whatever, trademark and copyright law is nightmare to begin with.

    I really like LoL, valve is also a good company tho, and they know how to bring in a good community. Poor community is what plagued DOTA and even LoL suffers from the asshattery of elitism. We see what DOTA 2 turns out to be, but simply copying and upgrading graphics of DOTA won't sell me on their product.

    League of Legends is quite fun, for a community styled dota... At least you don't have elitists blaring at your ass every second. And it really is user friendly, compared to Dota on the Wc3. It focuses on updating a lot, providing unique and fun champions, and balancing them so one is never too powerful late game... I hated the old WC3 version and such because when it gets to late game, what happens is that your so weak that you can't even gain gold off of minions and mobs... Your at a standstill... I hate zealot frenzy for that too... Can't get a kill when the other guys got stronger infantries that made your unit's weapons obsolete... Heck my hero does like 60 damage but for some reason deals 0 to their infantries...

    posted a message on [Video] Shield radius determine impact location

    Probably need a lot of reworks since shields are also designed in a way to respond to most attacks, and if you change a attack to bypass it, it may produce unexpected results.

    What about upgrading the sentry's ability so instead of making a giant bubble shield that lowers damage, it's a "overshield" that protects units by making itself a viable target for ranged attacks outside the shield?

    So the sentry would be buffed up to have higher shield output, but much lower health like a archon, but designed to defend allies from long range attacks (since melee and short range inside the shield will nullify it).

    posted a message on Tutorial Request

    Where the heck is the tutorial, guides, and templates for galaxy code? Did it get buried under something? Btw the tutorial forums is messy as hell!

    I'd rather not start on trigger editing variables, and rather get into programming since it'll give me some practice from my java classes.

    1) Basic template on how to start programming a galaxy script:

    • Should tell you what to do before you start programming (preparing your text file with important statements/functions so it may load)
    • Should tell you the order of using variables, if statements, and loops

    That's it, the only 2 things I want to know about... But knowing the community, you'll toss a heap of info at me without organizing them first.

    Example: main.java

    public class Main
    {

        /**
         * @param args the command line arguments
         * Javadoc
         */
        public static void main(String[] args)
        {
            System.out.println("Hello World!"); //Print out to console
        }

    }

    When compiled and ran, will output "Hello World!" to the console.

    It's either that people here are keeping quiet about galaxy code, or plainly doesn't know how to write up a non-complex tutorial or even know how to teach others. To do so requires good perception anyhow, to think of the other person's perspective and ask yourself questions. I would write tutorials myself if I knew what I was trying to write about (because I'm basically blank here, galaxy code's format is??!?, I can put together java formats and it'll give me syntax errors, so I can't proceed until I have enough info on the "general" format of it).

    Besides, many requests seems to be so specific that not many people would learn from it, and it'll too vague in a way. Like the guy above me, is he asking for a trigger self destruct that gives damage to units around it in a region? Or is it an ability set kind of self-destruct from a baneling? Or is it a "remove unit" or a "kill unit trigger that removes it?

    Someone needs to add information on the uses of [if] and [for/while] statements...

    Maybe get a tutorial on how a script's components is suppose to be put together... Because it's misleading when you work with a blank page.

    posted a message on Any future IDE for galaxy scripting?

    Or at least some editor that works alongside it, like Netbeans or Eclipse where you can test and debug it in a "previewer"...

    Say you want to do galaxy code sided testing, like have the text "Hello world" pop up on the chat screen, but not wanting it to load the game, you do a "test" where it basically goes through the process in a "simulation" if you must.

    This simulation allows the IDE to see if the text will appear, and checks for errors that are commonly found, before you load it into the Galaxy editor to only get a error.

    Another handy reason why I'd like to see a IDE editor is that you can pop up a list of "functions" when you do things like [import java.mysql.[list of functions]].

    As soon as Blizzard contacts me

    I somehow get the feeling that it's not gonna happen... Blizzard isn't one to keep tabs on individuals, and especially not those who aren't in their "support" thread.

    Knowing how corporations can be, the one replying to your emails is different to the one who's reading them. As words (and email) is passed from person to person in their chain of command, the emphasis and meaning gets lost and by the time it reaches a important person, it means little or nothing to them, and thus they throw it in the trash and sends a order to "reply with this excuse" thing.

    Activision-Blizzard, Nexon America, and EA games are my list of people you can't complain to unless you've got a lawyer backing you up or something.

    posted a message on Making Icons for requests

    I wonder if anyone would consider using more "simpler" icons for maps when you want to get the idea or process across... The current SC2 icons for certain skills can be confusing if you have 4 skills in a row and hard to "distinct" each type.

    For example: SoTIS relies on the current SC2 icons, so the skills looks like art and art and art and art in a row. Simplifying it, can work by having each column of skill having a coloured background representing a "type" of skill (Offensive, Supportive, Defensive, Ultimate) meaning it's easier to identify.

    Of course, implementing full working icons into a game like SC2 is a hassle because they require a "default" icon, a "pressed" icon, and a "cooldown/inactive" icon, which ends up tripling your work.

    It could be easier if they went and create a "pressed" layer, and a "cooldown/inactive" layer that goes on top of the icon, and not from the icon themselves... Meaning it can be used with a plethora of other skill icons as a "layer over it".

    You cut the work required to make a single skill icon by 1/3 and you make it easier to do "lack of energy" and "cooldown/inactive" icons by using "shading/coloring" or something.

    posted a message on [Vote] No Trigger TD

    I think what programmer means is a mod. No one seriously attempted to create a working mod yet right? Only maps.

    Making a mod means you create a module that can be used on "any" related maps, say a VS TD mod that can work on melee maps, which has units being spawned from main base to attack your opponent's base, and you get to build your TD based on the layout of a melee map.

    A word is a word, how one perceives it is THEIR fault, not those who used it (Think about it from a neutral standpoint, the owner of the bullet wouldn't be at fault, if someone trips on them and gets hospitalized, no matter how cunning you twists your words). The offended went online, played a map that uses words from a dictionary, so the offended was playing the game on behalf of his own discretion.

    Humans will continue to find reasons, or in this case, excuses, to change their standpoint, so I agree with programmer's statement that it will lead to nowhere...

    It's stupid to think that because the mass majority thinks it's bad, that it should be enforced. Blizzard enforced it not because they believed the mapper intended to use that word, but because of the mass media. But this is just me ranting about society, of which can't be saved from it's peculiar doom.

    Apparantly, I think that if Blizzard lets this slide, it'll provoke some questions and "people" from the media who so loves to talk down Blizzard, so putting their reputation on the line, they won't let custom maps mess with their publicity...

    Strangely enough, they don't care about the WoW rants and complaints.
