The handle thing seems iffy to me. The concept of banlists is pathetic. I hope that they retain the inability to kick players somehow.
Banlists probably wont happen, because if they do, I'm sure Blizzard will be all over you for that. If they aren't against them, IMO it's fine - it would bring a bit more order to maps. Next big thing Blizzard needs to really nail down is the lobby/matchmaking system.
- Naming our games
- Password protecting them
- Search list on battle.net
- less strict rules for uploading maps (no religious material etc, tbh if the people who would be offended by this are playing it, well they're asking to be offended that's not our problem, the world doesn't revolve around them)
edit: I just tested the handle thing offline, doesn't give a string for player 1 (which I was assuming would be Local Player). Does it just give you the player's character code or what o.O
I'd upload a map to b.net and test it there but too much work.
Could someone import the WC3 Trees (all of the Lordaeron variants only, don't need others) into the SC2 model format? I need them for a map I'm working on.
Do hope you can add support to create artificial pathing (blocking only a select few units from going down an otherwise unblocked path for other units) via trigger if you could.
I totally want to play a laggier Dota 2 or LoL on a shitty framework.
I agree. Not sure why they embarked on making this map when Valve DotA is going to roflstomp it. Kind of pointless aside from helping the mapping community. Also, Blizzard no longer has any bar of quality. Battle.net 2.0 is a testament to that.
Would be sick if someone could try making something like Tap Tap Revenge but as a TD. Not sure if you could synchronize the music to the TD though so it spawns on kicks etc (prob work best with techno honestly) but that would be interesting.
Remember back in the SC I days where there were those "Sexy" maps? The ones where you had a team of players that helped you complete challenges to unlock more of the minimap because the minimap showed a "Sexy picture."
With SC II, minimap pictures are tons easier, so I was thinking of recreating one of these maps. Would making a map with a minimap "Sexy" picture violate the TOS and get me banned?
Sexy = nude or almost nude, ie. bikini chick.
Yes it would get your map banned, more than likely your account too if I had to say so.
I was hyped for DotA 2 but after trying to watch a complete match, even with it being casted, I can honestly say I got bored and did something else. I know it will be fun to play it unless I start hearing about major issues with the controls or something though.
Im wondering how you guys view sc2mapster. Do you usually start by viewing the front page, then check forums, or do you skip the front page and come right to the forums?
View front page, see news, browse posts, see if I can give input, if not leave.
This is probably the single most interesting thing I've ever read. Books? Fuck books, this is enlightenment. If you manage to read the entire article, you'll understand why this service sucks and what caused Blizzard to knowingly destroy it for us, all in the pursuit of money of course.
Like I said, attach your map. The anti-block system we recommended has worked for preety much everybody so far ( I think).
Doesn't work on maps in which there are two ways to the endpoint, but the units are only supposed to follow the most direct path. Think of a rectangle. If a player blocks one part of it, there is an alternate route (the long way around the rectangle).
I'm not sure if this is related to Data, I'm very new to the editor.
What I made now in the Editor, is a town. However it's being attacked by the Zerg, so I want some of the buildings damaged, which I thought was best by lowering their current hp (not max hp!). Say that a Bio-Dome has 500 hitpoints, I want it starting at 200/500. I'm assuming that way it will also look damaged (maybe even burning).
However, I can't find how exactly to do this, and I hope to find the answer here. Thanks in advance.
Just use a damage unit trigger that fires just before the player enters the location to appear that they're all damaged, much easier than using data.
English is more like a second language to me. Yes, I do want the original Blizzard terrain texture extracted. Could you give me file path to mpq? I have SC2 demo installed. How SC2 applies texture is way different than I am used in Warcraft 3 (I made white circle aorund strange part). It is hilarious how something so simple which you request can be so complicated to do.
I'll extract the Port Zion Grid as suggested in the last post and upload it for you + take a screenshot of how it looks in-game. brb.

No way to get player's name as a string unless you have them enter it into the map via dialog etc. Very annoying.

Why would they allow you create new events if they're just for show...
