This sounds cool, I'm joining in! Hey everyone, I'm GrowdanBowl and I'm learning Blender at the moment, have gotten quite the hang of modeling but not texturing or animations, it's on my to-do-list though!
This would be awesome, and as much as I'd like to do it myself I don't think I have enough 3D modeling expertise to pull this of the way it should be pulled off. Might give it a try in some time unless noone else has done it.
A pack of monsters would be really sweet, just stuff like Devilsaurs, raptors, crocolisks, birds, cats, wolves, just bunch of sweet mosnters and animals, because most of those could fit in really well with other Starcraft 2 models.
Before I begin, this isn't really a proper tutorial. It's more a tip than anything else but I really felt that it should be posted and didn't know where else to put it. Also, I don't know if this has been posted yet or if it's just common knowledge but I though "Meh, might aswell".
Now, as some of you might know, there have been a couple of different Überlisk versions floating around this site for a while. Most of them look really good but there is one problem with them. The spine crawler models they have attached to them are more than just tentacles, they have this wierd building base as well, and if you're not careful, this may very well mess up your whole Überlisk.
I have found a way around this however (purely by accident). While I was checking out the zerg Leviathan model from the campaign I noticed it didn't have those four awesome tentacles on the model. So I began my quest to find these elusive tentacles! It took me about four seconds...
Search for leviathan in the model tab in the data editor, find PersistentSpellFX and there you will find it, a cool looking tentacle WITHOUT any form of building base or other annoying stuff. Just a tentacle, plain and simple. I imagine you should be able to use these in the same way you use spine crawlers to make Überlisks, but achieve more aestethically pleasing results. They are also easier to use on other models than the Ultralisk since without the building base they're much easier to fit in anywhere.
I would absolutely LOVE you if you made the plugin for blender as I don't have access to any other 3D software, and I have plans for a map featuring the Soul Hunter (the scrapped protoss unit from beta) and since I haven't seen any word from blizzard that they plan on realeasing that model in the near future, I decided to make it myself, but alas, this is impossible without an exporter script.
As far as I know it isn't possible using the Data Editor (might be though, but it's probably complicated) but there is a tutorial on how to do this using triggers
while this makes the different units attached onto each other destructible, I think you're able to bypass that by making them invulnerable/untargetable.
Think there's any chance of seeing the Soul Hunter added to the editor? It would fit perfectly for a map I'm gonna make, so it would suck if blizz didn't add it to the editor, I mean, they have the model and animations and stuff, why not just put it there? ;S

Awesome tutorial, but would it be possible to make the affected units fly in an arc using movers?

Just an idea for you guys, don't know if it's doable but perhaps you could import models from the Dawn of War games?

@TheRealPMP: Go
Hmm, cool ability, here are some suggestions:
Feeding Time - as the Queen "feeds" the Zerg
Nutrient Shower - the Queen showers the Zerg with nutrients
Transfer Biomass - the Queen redirects the biomass of the unit to the Zerg
Redirected Absorption - as the Queen absorbs a unit but redirects it at the Zerg
