posted a message on Map Size Limit

In case you didn't get an answer: I would suggest digging through the Tutorial forum. I know there are a few tutorials in there regarding mod files. Specifically on creating and using mod files and also one on converting a current map into a mod file.

It may sound crazy, but considering that serious mapping requires hundreds of hours of time, I prepared personally by making it my mission to at least get the jist of every tutorial on the website. It allowed me to do nearly anything I wanted to do in the editor and also know where to look if I needed help. On top of that, that forum is filled with things you never even thought of doing with the editor, which in turn can add some really cool things to your map.

It only takes a little while to figure out what each tutorial covers, but once you know whats on the site, it will save waiting days every time you have a question that would have been easily answered by a tutorial. Personally, i can't even guess how much time I've saved by knowing exactly where the answer to my question lies.

Anyway, hope you find/found your answer.

Personally when I was new to modding I found your Defense of the Universe unprotected map quite nifty for learning the editor. I'm a fan of releasing it as a tutorial map. Maybe that way someone out there could benefit. Maybe they'll benefit so much as to even thank you in their map. Beats falling into oblivion.

On the other hand, as a fully working map you will have the problem of someone tweaking it and not crediting you.... &$%#.

posted a message on First big mod : where is the manual ?

My advice would be find a person familiar with the editor who speaks your language as I think it may be hard learning from an English site. If that is impossible, try

    http://www.sc2mapster.com/wiki/galaxy/tutorials/

Has a big list of tutorials and specifically says whether they include a video or not. My only other advice is

    1. Lurk on the forums
    2. Read tutorials
    3. Ask questions in the proper forum
    2. Create something on your own. No one will help you unless you can show some skill.

After you are comfortable with the editor, start with a small project. The creator of Starcraft Universe spends *thousands* of hours making a map like that and knows very well that he may not have a playable game for thousands more. It can be hard to have the discipline to follow through with a project like that if it's your first. Like Programmer said. Make a tower defense or something simple first. :)

Bumping it is pointless and waste everyone's time

I don't think this is accurate. If no one bumps this sort of topic and no one talks about it, Blizzard won't feel it's important enough to change.

God I hope skyrim's primary modding site doesn't become a curse-hosted site. I wouldn't wish that curse on anyone. (PUN ALERT)

No offense to the OP but your original post is nonsense.. Here is your arguments that you cram together:

I don't believe in paying for maps
Here are maps I would pay for
When you charge for maps do this
Get a job if you map for money
What would you people pay for maps?
Here is some stuff no one cares about
Heres another suggestion for charging for maps
Dont flame people who charge for maps
This is why I wouldnt pay for maps..

Like, you tried to fit 15 topics in one and contradicted yourself a few times. Take that plus the fact half of the thread is a flamewar between you and that idiot Maknyuzz and this thread should be locked and a new one made that makes sense.

An important thing I only found out by watching the panel was that Blizzard wants to introduce the ability to reconnect to games.

    Quote from greythepirate: Go

You can accomplish most of this by simply updating your map frequently and using banks. Just sayin...

You can do 'some' of those things by patching frequently... Like the weekly/monthly stuff. But you can't do the rest.

Could use some help from people other than myself bumping and keeping this idea alive on the SC Battlenet forum: http://us.battle.net/sc2/en/forum/topic/3229373010?page=1

Basically, I think an amazing feature would be to be able to get the time and date through the battle.net servers through triggers. This would allow an huge amount of new features be added to our custom mods and maps.

    -Daily bonuses for play
    -Daily/weekly missions
-Greater illusion of persistant in-game world.
    -Real time-of-day/week/month/year effects
-Game progression while away from computer
    -More gameplay stat tracking
    -and more!

I know personally I would love to see this ability in the editor.
