Only started working on this yesterday, so still need to do some more before I upload the map, but this is what I've got so far. Still need to add more doodads, some work with textures, as well as lighting...

Also, since I didn't see any answer to my previous question, if using Environmental Hazards (like the Laser / Flame Trap below), how would you want them created, through triggers, data editor, or should I just leave that for you guys to do?

Check out this tutorial, ignore the parts about exporting things, below that there should be instructins for how to import the models into the map, that's the tutorial I used and it worked out fine for me.

Q: Are there any special features we should include? A: Bonus points will be given for cool potential environmental hazards, but they're not required as we can always add them later. Examples would be periodic flame jets, high winds, etc.

Going to give this a shot if I have enough time, one question though, if adding environmental hazards, how should they be added, should we just do the terrain parts of it (and leave the rest up to you), should we do them through the data editor, or can we use triggers as well?

As I previously said, I don't know too much about trademarking, just figured I should mention it since the original article where I read it said that Valve failed to register the regular spelling, so had to go for DOTA instead.

Yeah, I know it probably won't make too much of a difference, just figured I should mention it, since Valve apparently failed to trademark the usual spelling of DotA :)

Pretty sure I've read somewhere that Valve only managed to trademark DOTA (with Capital letters), and not the more commonly used DotA, most likely because of how widespread the latter acronym is.

I must say I was really impressed by all of your work guys - so much that I wanted to try making my own building. I'm just missing a pair of doodads, I REALLY searched through ALL the damn doodads but I couldn't find a door that doesn't look like one big entrance and those wooden tables I seen in some of your screenies. I'm asking this here to avoid opening any other threads.

I must congratulate myself once again with everybody, really good job!

EDIT: Also those really cool fences? :)

First of all, make sure you've got all the dependencies active for your map, don't think that's your problem, just mentioning it.

As for the doors, there are several doors under units, but none of them (except the Valhalla Door) are listed under doodads, so will need to either use the units, or make a couple of custom doodads using those models. Try searching for Gate under units and you should be able to find them.

As for the wooden details, without having the editor open in front of me, I'd suppose most of them are the Window Boards or Deadman's Port Ground Props, try these out and just experiment a bit with the X/Y/Z scales.

Think the Storefront doodads may also have a couple of doors on some of them, but not quite sure.

As for fences, apart from the Chain Link Fence, other doodads you can use are the Castanar Light Board and the Window Board ones.

Hoping I got all the names right, as I said, I haven't got the editor open right now, but you should be able to find most of those :)

Yeah, the "strippers" can be found in the WoW Assets thread on this forum, most other people and props (such as tables, jukebox, bottles and such) are from the Campaign Set pieces.

Screenshot taken in the Editor, hence why I can't place the 'Fog' doodads... stupid white circles!

Pretty sure you can change to In Game View (think it's V by default) to make the fog show up, or, you can go into the data editor, and under actors, look up the Fog doodad and change the Editor Model to the Actual Model instead of Editor Helper Model or whatever it's called.

Gurrgel: the bar seems kinda bright, if you managed to switch off the lights and make it more of a night-club feel to it and it would be perfect, the start is quite good.

Lightning is a very importain part of the maps so try to mix around with it. I really should get back to terraining but i havent had the time after my last accident.

Yeah, I tried to mess around with it, have almost no global lighting, but that meant I had to use a bit too many Omnilights in order to make stuff visible at all, could probably get a better result if I used a dimmed down global light instead...

Thank you! I should have been able to figure that out now that you explain it. How can i get different camera angles in game? Im gussing the screens taken in game look better than the ones from the editor.

To get different camera angles in the game is a bit tricky, as far as I know, you need to place various cameras in the editor, then use Triggers to swap between them. Also, depending on your settings in the editor, you can get it to look just as good as in game. I generally take all my screenshots for the WTEs from the editor, and I haven't really had any problems so far...

Take screenshots with the Print Screen button, either in the editor or in game, if you do it in the editor, you probably want to press I first to hide the interface (press I again to show it). Once you've taken the screenshots, they should end up in your My Documents/Starcraft II/Screenshots folder, after that, just make a post here, press the Add attachment, and browse for the previously mentioned folder where your screenshots are, then just upload them one at a time before you actually post.

Obviously, this is for Windows, if you're running some other OS, I hope someone else can help you but it should still be something similar.

Here we go, finally managed to finish this, been really busy the last week, but hopefully I'll have time to finish this week's Exercise as well.

Anyway, it's a small bar / club where people can go for a drink and just general enjoyment / relaxation.

I will remove all of those words as soon as I get home. However, I don't think words like ball, kill, tail, and war will cause my map to be banned. If they do, I quit map making for real. "WARcraft."

You're probably right, just wanted to make you aware of them so you could decide what to do, don't really see blizzard banning a map because of those words unless they're way oversensitive :(

Ok, here we go, this seems like a better format, sorry about the previous one, and admins, feel free to delete it :) Had a look through the first 25 pages, and this is what I found, will continue looking if I get some more spare time. I'm probably way oversensitive now, but figured that was better, then you can be the judge for what to keep and what to remove. gv_word[0][ 0] = "ball"; - Not sure how strict blizzard are with sexual / obscene terms, but if they disliked the word dyke, you never know... gv_word[0][ 114] = "ball"; gv_word[0][ 239] = "ball"; gv_word[0][ 52] = "mob"; - Not a bad word per se, but wouldn't surprise me if blizz disliked organized criminal movements being mentioned in maps :p gv_word[0][ 718] = "mob"; gv_word[0][ 751] = "mob"; gv_word[0][ 226] = "mob"; gv_word[0][ 135] = "cola"; - Not sure if only the word cola is ok to use or if it's trademarked (or whatever) by the coca cola company. gv_word[0][ 154] = "nub"; - Not sure if they could find this word as a derogatory use of "newbie" gv_word[0][ 543] = "nub"; gv_word[0][ 162] = "kill"; - Again, probably ok, concidering the game, but could be seen as an obscene act... gv_word[0][ 177] = "spat"; - Could be seen as a negative act in some way I'm sure... gv_word[0][ 579] = "spat"; gv_word[0][ 223] = "tail"; - Probably best to remove for the same reason as Ball, may be an ok word for most people, but blizzard disliked dyke... gv_word[0][ 245] = "puka"; - Not sure if it's an english word to begin with, it's also according to wikipedia a nickname for Pikachu, so may be a problem. gv_word[0][ 246] = "saki"; - It's a manga series, also used as a personal name and some other stuff, so probably ok, but still... gv_word[0][ 261] = "lick"; - I'm sure blizzard could find this to be sexually inappropriate... gv_word[0][ 272] = "war"; - This one and the two below are related to war. probably ok concidering the map name and SC II, but not sure... gv_word[2][ 134] = "warhead"; gv_word[2][ 231] = "warship"; gv_word[0][ 362] = "flit"; - Not sure if this is an english word to begin with, only thing I found on it was a brand name, which could be a problem in itself. gv_word[0][ 116] = "flit"; gv_word[0][ 536] = "pita"; - Could be seen as an abbreviation of "Pain in the ass" so may cause problems if you keep it gv_word[0][ 622] = "pita"; gv_word[0][ 31] = "pita"; gv_word[0][ 537] = "stab"; - Could also be scene as a negative / obscene thing to do gv_word[0][ 601] = "tug"; - Sexual gv_word[0][ 656] = "ayah"; - Not sure if it's an english word, it is however an Arabic word, among other things used to describe a verse in the Qur'ran, so probably best to remove... Also, both gv_word[0][ 341] gv_word[0][ 262] are the word qoph, not sure if it's an english word, but you probably don't need a duplicate of it. As I said to begin with, I'm probably overreacting, but tried to describe why I listed the words that I did, so that you can make an informed decision if you want to keep them or not :)
