Hello everyone, my problem is very annoying. Every time I duplicate an object (unit/bulding/ect), the copied object always ends up a black blob. After this I have to figure out for the next few hours what is wrong, and thats just ridiculous. I'm using Mac also, so would anyone like to share steps they take when duplicating an object please? What do you copy in the pop when they give you the choice?
Alright, excellent post. I think that our posts need to be much cleaner. For example instead of posting raw links (Example: http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/tutorials/7756-absolute-beginner-tutorial-how-to-place-units-in-other/) Make it a coded link.
Also I want to say that a replay video to youtube converting tool would be sweet. Would love to put a lot of replays on youtube, but don't have the software to convert it ( I use a Mac ). Just my 2 cents, thanks.
Are you placing it under another icon? Make sure you have it in its own square. If you put it under another icon which you may be doing, please give me a screenshot if you can and test again.
Alright, i'll try redoing the tutorial. I knew how to add abilities, yet, i wanted to figure out how to change the range when i read your tutorial, so i'll try redoing it from scratch, and if that dosen't work i'd gladly love to see your map. :D Edit: After redoing, i definitely have longer range than before, but it's only about twice as far as the stalkers.
Edit(2): I just kinda went "screw this" and set the range and target to 500. Then i could blink anywhere. xD i think the distance i was seeing was...different than what i was thinking. So i appreciate the time, and am looking forward to diving into your other tutorials.

Exciting. I'm glad the redo turned out well. New tut coming soon.
OK, I honestly don't know why it wouldn't work also. If you'd like me to upload my map that I use to make my tutorials on you can look at it and compare it to yours.
Those two pictures are my examples. I started 1 colossus behind the mountain and blinked him to the top of the mountain on the other side of the map and he ended up next to that other colossus.
If you'd be interested in downloading my version of the map just leave a reply and I'll probably post something tomorrow as I'll have to go to be soon. Also try doing the tutorial over again on a new map. Test if.
Hello Galactica12, I have taken a screenshot of what I have done to make my stalker blink crazy distances. Also note that you can only blink within your vision. Look at all parts of the screenshot, it's fairly one of the most simple things we can do.
http://img819.imageshack.us/img819/9076/screenshot20100822at935.png
I apologize for the link, the image was like "cut off" for some reason and didn't resize to fit the forum. I have difficulty using this forum, but click on the screenshot link and you'll be able to see what my data editor looks like.
Also if you liked this tutorial, fell free to check out my others and I have a really cool one coming soon. I'm trying to find a small part in an ability/behavior, I don't know which, but all I got to do is delete it lol but I just can't find it!! Ahh. Well here you go:
OK in this tutorial we are going to learn how to change the size and position of the unit health bar, and also we are going to make it so the Colossus that I've used in previous tutorials can === warp in Zerglings! ===
We'll start with teaching you how to make Zerglings Warp in as it's cooler than changing the size and height and position of the health bar.
Like always open your Data Editor. For those of you who have read my other tutorials this should be like a handgun in the old west and you should be able to draw open it fast by now and navigate to everywhere I say, but for those of you who haven't I'm still going to teach you this just like I taught everyone else.
Next lets head strait to the colossus unit and open the abilities field and if you look closely at the picture you'll notice in Index#6 the Ability is "Warp Gate - Train (WarpGate). You should add that. Yours is currently blank on assumption unless your going to add this to something that you've been working on. Then it might not be index#6.
Now head over to your command card and add a button. It can be any button you choose, they'll all end up doing the end result. Set your command type to ability command and choose the ability which we just set in the abilities index "warp gate - train (warpgate).
NOTE* you will not be able to set the ability command.
As always in my tutorials I recommend you use the Object Explorer which is that little Observer Icon in the left panel near the search bar. So Make sure thats on.
Scroll down and in your abilities you'll now see "warp gate - train (warpgate). We are having success people! SUCCESS!
Highlight that and open the "Ability - Info +
Notice I just left all the normal toss units who are standard there and just added under Command Warp 07 the Button Morph to Zergling and the Unit Zergling. In Warp 07 Make sure you set the "Info - Button - Default Button" to Morph to Zergling and the "Info - Unit" to Zergling.
Now head back to the Colossus and change on the command card the ability command to morph to zergling. Refer to image #2 above.
Your are now finished with part 1/2 of the tutorial. If you wish to continue reading you can learn to change the size and position of the units health bar which if you haven't noticed appears when you hover over the unit or select it.
OK so since I use the Colossus in my tutorials we're going to use him/her again as our subject of testing. Search the Colossus and under Actors click Colossus. Scroll down until you see "UI - Bar Distance" and UI - Bar Height" and "UI - Bar Offset" and "UI - Bar Width" and there are many more.
OK so if you haven't done my other tutorials the Offset of your bar which is how far from your unit (above your unit) it is. My Colossus is a Mini Colossus so I'm going to set my UI Offset to 100 which works great.
Next I'm going to pre tend my Colossus is a Boss Unit in Tower Defense so he's a big unit. He needs a big UI Bar to go with him.
So I'm going to set my UI Bar Width to 300 and height to 15.
Changing the UI Height sort of makes it look silly so personally I wouldn't suggest modifying it.
I apologize for this, but I do not know what the UI Cool Down does or at least I haven't found a use for it yet so lets ignore that, but this will conclude our tutorial. If your interested in resizing units, adding abilities to units and more check out my other tutorials, and I hope you enjoyed another tutorial from me.

Hi, check out this tutorial I made awhile back. This tutorial is for modifying the size of a unit, but it can be reversed to do it as a building. http://forums.sc2mapster.com/resources/tutorials/7773-absolute-beginner-tutorial-modify-unit-size/

Hey I have a tutorial that can be reconstructed easily. Just try it the way I made it first, then try it your way.

You can set the supply to zero if you like so you can make infinite just for fun. Glad you got your problems fixed. Post anymore if you like.

Now head back to the Colossus and change on the command card the ability command to morph to zergling. Refer to image #2 above.
Click the Test Button and check that baby out.
