posted a message on Blizzard Censors What!?!?

I'm waiting to hear back from them (and their legal dept) about putting team logos on the load screen and in-game. Also waiting to hear back on putting sponsor logos like SC2Mapster in game. Another thing that I've asked them whether or not they will ban a map +/or penalize an account for using any unedited content of there own production (as provided with zero alteration and in a non-lewd or offensive manner in and of itself). For instance, the BJ's Clam Shack... or the Real Men Drill Deep sign. Neither are offensive to me, but I can see from an objective point of view that some Ned Flanders like individual may become offended. (no offense to any religious individuals; I'm referring to zealots lol)

The way their IC policy is worded is horrendous and about as ambiguous as saying, "If we don't like it, it is coming down and you will be banned... and you'll be happy about it!" Fighting them on it on an individual basis is pointless as the entire game, all its content, and any derivation there-of can be assumed to be their property in a fashion. My hope is to have a response from them specific enough that I can use it as some grounds to stand on in the event that anything /does/ happen to a map our team creates!

Personally, I think something should be done about it if it gets worse. As a community... we /do/ have some means to have the collective voice be heard. Sadly though, they've already made their money on this game and that is not a tool that we have available to us. I'm sure with some brainstorming we could come up with creatively 'protesting'. Have everyone upload a banned map that we all rally behind as a flagship example of how retarded the system is. (Since it would be gaining attention and publicity it would likely need to be a well designed and well thought out map who's purpose was not to get banned. This map would have been banned for ludicrous reasons that we, the community, can not stand for.) So, their choice would be to let the matter rest or ban everyone that uploaded the map. Or they could continually waste their resources removing the maps until one of those two solutions comes to pass. I doubt they would ban everyone because they're looking forward to having everyone as a repeat customer during the expansions. It is generally preferred, in business, to market to existing customers than it is to attract new ones; thus making existing customers a valuable resource or commodity.

Has anyone seen Debates? It got banned (and I'm pretty sure it came back as well) for retarded reasons. They could simply absolve themselves of all liability for any online content as is standard for every other game that has ANY sort of online functionality. But then Blizz could improve on a lot of things right now if they'd stop counting their money and start serving their customers with a bit more attention. ;)

[note] I do love Blizz btw... and their customer service is actually better than most other companies; something they pride themselves on. In the grand scheme of all things our current issues are generally minor as the game works as intended presently. The game isn't broken per se. :D

posted a message on Great basic idea - Need serious help!

To be honest -and not to turn you away- from my experience this community is all about helping everyone. Though problems to solutions are often given, the overall goes is to help each map maker grow and learn. My first suggestion to this end would be to watch and read a lot of tutorials. From there I would suggest making a simple map -zerg swarm for instance-. The overall experience will be far more rewarding I promise you!

As for getting help for your map, I would again suggest expanding your own knowledge base and skills (possibly before acquiring help). Though no one expects anyone to handle every aspect of making a very involved map, it is often expected that everyone contributes their fair share of a project. So, along this line of thought, try joining on a team as an ambitious and wide eyed map maker who is all too eager to soak up the vast amounts of experience around them. ;)

One other note: trust is generally freely given here. Though not everyone talks about their projects openly, I resolved to trust anyone with interest in joining me in my efforts without knowing them first. That is one of the hurdles with anonymity that we each have to overcome. So, for your collaboration, if you do find anyone to join you it would be better to accept them and not look a gift horse in the mouth.

So, play with GE for endless hours and enjoy! Best of luck in your endeavor.

posted a message on Weekly Terraining Exercise #2: To be king you don't need a castle

    @evilcrizpy: Go

I like it! I like the concept and idea of it. The reflections in the foreground work out great.

The light from the fires isn't really cast on anything and seems isolated though... One other piece of constructive criticism; the ultralisk may need to move slightly more out of the fog. Not much, but enough to maybe see the head crest more visibly. Since it is in the background and is off-center the viewer's eyes aren't drawn toward it as strongly as the crystals or the fires; all three of which are in contention for the viewer's notice. Play with some of the lighting features and doodads to see if you can't silhouette the ultralisk more in the fog perhaps...

Just some thoughts. Hope they help. Thumbs up though! I'm a fan! :D

posted a message on Want to make your map popular???

Try this thread for people / testers / bumpers. ;)

    http://forums.sc2mapster.com/development/map-development/5946-map-tester-list/?page=2#p22

Honestly though I think it would take a LOT more than 5-10 people joining and leaving. The popularity system is rated by how many people pay those maps per hour. Join a game of nexus wars an it usually fills w/ in <5 seconds! If someone is pending for more than 5 seconds, people leave to rejoin another game start. I wish you lots of luck with this and may help out (because I'm all for supporting this community), but I think our best chance is bugging Blizz to change their system!

I always thought it was funny how the Soul Hunter didn't last long in SC2 after it was revealed, probably because of the thousands of people saying "Now you're adding Necrons to the game?"

Baahahahahhaa You know, SC was originally posed to GW and they turned it down. So, they went ahead and made it anyway. The correlations are obvious. I bet GW kicks themselves all the time for saying no. lol BUT, we have the SC world now as a gift from their bad choice.

@Joeness: Go That's awesome! Hadn't noticed that (hadn't looked at his tutorial either yet).

posted a message on REALLY??? Dependencies not working!

You should only need to put the Liberty Story (Campaign) dependency on top. If that doesn't work, clear them all out, put them back in (w/ story on top), save, close editor, and go back in. Sounds like a cure for windows doesn't it!? hahaha

posted a message on Want to make "vampire bullet" skill.

One way could be to use a system similar to how the bounty system works (gain resources upon killing a unit). Then possibly modifying a life regen rate for a short time; so one tick/cycle for a set amount.

Maybe not the most efficient method, but it should work. ;)
