posted a message on [solved] How to make Fog of War darker? (but not black)

I messed around a bit with the stuff under Terrain Data - Fog of War Data but got nowhere, and they seem to only affected FoW before the terrain's been explored but I want to change the FoW darkness both before and after the terrain's been explored.

I want the FoW to be darker but still have terrain revealed so not black like it is in Brood War. Help?

posted a message on Using campaign dependencies in an extension mod?

I found out that the WoL campaign worked with multiplayer and so far I only needed 3 terran units, will probably need the LotV shuttle but I guess I might be able to import that one manually so I'm okay now. :P But alfx01's mod looks great, thanks for linking it to me! Should come in handy in the future. :D

posted a message on Using campaign dependencies in an extension mod?

I want to make an extension mod and add one or two campaign units. First I tried adding campaign dependency in addition to the multiplayer dependency but some of the multiplayer stuff got overridden by those so that didn't work too well. I know it's possible to recreate the unit with existing assets but that seems hard and I wonder if there's a more convenient way.

Is it possible to have all the campaign dependencies without them messing with multiplayer stuff? Or is there an easier way to transfer a unit from the campaign dependency to my mod without having to recreate it myself?

posted a message on A new melee mod, need help with data editor

I want to make a melee mod but I'm not very good with the editor so I am looking for someone who can work with the data editor. I have tried getting it started by myself but I'm encountering various problems and I would just prefer if someone else could help my with that and I could focus more on design and testing. I can fine tune simple unit numbers by myself, I am a fairly high level master league player and I can play test and I think I could make a good mod if someone helped me with the technical aspects.

So what kind of mod are you going to make?

If I'd describe it as briefly as I can I would say that I want to make a Starcraft that is less punishing and strengthen what I think should be the core of Starcraft which is longer macro games where the players get to show off their skill the most and progress through the tech tree. Initially I don't want to change too much because I want to focus on as few things as possible at a time to get them right (doesn't need to take long though).

These are the changes I want to have in the mod when we start out:

    • the zergling will have more health, slightly weaker attack and be a bit slower - I can tweak hellion for example if the zergling is too slow, I just want to have something acceptable at first and then play test it to identify flaws, reiterate countinously
    • test out siege tank as tier 3 armory requirement, a bit more expensive, stronger, no tankivac - terran has much more units that fill up the midgame compared to BW/WoL, I think the tank fit the best as terran's big threat on the ground, if tier 3 proves problematic then I could go back to normal tech lab requirement and take a different approach
    • change the immortal to be either stronger and more expensive or change it's design so it's less all around - The immortal has a great weapon against units such as the roach, lurker, tank etc. and it's also a good tank. I don't want it to have both and since it's named the immortal I want to test out strengthening it's defence and weakening it's offence, maybe make it more of a short range tanky unit kind of like the role the hellbat has

At the start I also want to remove a few units at least temporarily, and maybe bring them back later when I know what I want to do with them or maybe replace them with something else, or maybe just leave them out. These units are the swarm host, thor and collossus. At the moment I don't like the collossus at all so I doubt I'd bring it back, the other two units I just don't like in their current state but I think something could be done with them. But as I said earlier, I can't focus on too many things at once so I'd rather just get them out of the picture for a while so I can focus on other units.

I have many ideas of changes I could make in the future but I'm not good at expressing my thoughts and I didn't really explain any of my changes very well but I would prefer to just show it with a mod. If anyone with editor skills is interested in helping me with this respond here. Also I forgot to mention that I will try my best to showcase the mod to draw attention and get more playtesters so I think it could go well as long as we get it right.

if anyone wants me to explain my reasoning behind any of this please just ask here and I'll try to explain

I checked and what both of you suggested was already on by default so I haven't found any solution yet. :( It's so wierd and it seems more like it's bugged than anything else so I don't understand.

posted a message on Data editor not matching in game

I want to make an extension mod but the units and structures that I am modifying in the data editor don't match the ones appearing in game. I am making sure that I'm looking at the LotV version data but what's appearing is still wrong. The swarm host I see in the editor is the old one that only spawned ground and if I change that one it's not the the appearing in game so it's useless, and even when I look at the larva in the editor it doesn't match in game. Other structures are also wrong, such as the factory which doesn't have the thor but still the warhound. Some things are still right though, like the zergling and if I change that it works correctly in game...

Does anyone know how to fix this?

posted a message on Need help tweaking swarm host

The one I'm editing is the Swarm Host from melee, and it's that one when I'm testing map from editor, but not from ingame. I didn't see anything from abilities - larva but when I go to harchery - larva and then to swarm host from there it's the same swarm host I'm editing. I've made sure it's LotV data source and melee so I don't understand how it's wrong.

And btw I've edited other units before such as the zergling and siege tank but I haven't had this problem with those units.

posted a message on Need help tweaking swarm host

Hello the only problem I have now is that the swarm host in editor and ingame doesn't match. It's set to a dependency/extension and I know I set data source to LotV but the swarm host I'm modifying in editor is and old version of swarm host and I can't see the right one that appears ingame, I even checked on larva and in editor i produces the old swarm host so something must be wrong with my editor...

    Anyone knnow how this happen?
