I just don't understand blizzard's thinking sometime, they've delt with crap like this before, you'd think they'd figure some shit out or listen to us?
I've got a badass project that I'm looking for a little bit of help on, I'm a programmer to but it's going to be a pretty big project for just myself to tackle.

Gonna be heavily physics based, so previous physics code experience would be sweet.
Just played on Bnet, not bad so far, I really think the buying untis part is the biggest flaw so far, Probably just me but I hate it when you can buy additional units in AOS maps, Takes the 1 hero strategy out of the equation for me.
This would be basdass for like a DnD style map where the DM can make the game as they go, add in dynamic terrain modification and you got yourself a badass map!
Well in my map Top Down Fighters I found that WASD movement for the system is just to laggy over bnet. Targeting is fine if you don't have very fast shooting weapons because you can't track Mouse Hover, only Mouse Clicks which is a pain in the ass.

Simple checks of
If CurrentSpace + RolledAmmount > TotalSpaces
Set NextSpace = TotalSpaces - CurrentSpace
endif
Or something similiar.

You're gonna have to setup points or regions on each space stored in an Array
SpacesArray[1] = Point1
SpacesArray[2] = Point2
etc.
Then when they roll, add the ammount they rolled to their Current Space
Current Space = 3
Rolled a 5
New space to move to is ...
SpacesArray[8]
That should get you pointed in the right direction.

Do you have any programming experience or are you not actually planning on making this game for DS?
Also why would you make a game demo for a touch screen device on a platform that doesn't even support mouse hover support?
Gameplay to me seems kinda Meh, but I don't usually like this kind of thing. Not to bad for just diving in though.

Look at the Bank files, you can write to an XML file and Retrieve from it aswell.

Ya I had custom RPG AI with Threat and stuff. A* path finding code aswell.
