Do you have a screen shot of how you did this or a map to check out? I'm just starting to get into functions so I'm a little out of my league. I've looked at Blizzard's maps but a lot of their drop pods are pretty staggered and sparse. Thanks.

I like your story! You should save up for a new lap top or desk top! :) I am a newcomer to this website and I've noticed two types of people here. One, is like myself, a total newb at the editor and trying to teach themselves how to use it. I've ended up making up my own story and trying to make it into something of worth. The other person is a total boss who is trying to finish their epic project and barely has any time!! Good luck with your project, but the probability of finding someone to implement it is low.

posted a message on Zerg Drop Pods Spawn Rate

    Hey folks,

I'm trying to do a scene with zerg drop pods raining from the sky. Unfortunately, they fall from the sky at an insanely slow rate.

    • Does anyone know how to increase the spawn rate of the drop pods?

I went into the data editor and found that I could only increase the speed of the drop, but not its spawn rate.

posted a message on Opening two maps at once

Does anyone have a solution/program to having two maps open at once? I'm new at the editor and while I can take a screen shot of every bazillion things it gets tedious after a while. I saw an old thread for a program called sandbox, but it doesn't seem to be working for me. Anyone use it? Any help is much appreciated!!

posted a message on Fall Cleaning

I've been sprucing up the Beginning Tutorials for the Editor in the Wiki.

I deleted two links by Mikelat. Mikelat took down his videos and through the comment sections I learned he will not be uploading those videos. He last logged in during 2011. They were dead links.

I rearranged some of the videos so the first ones you click on are short and to the point. I found as a newbie that I needed just a ten minute video so I don't feel overwhelmed. As a non-programmer just absorbing the 10 minute videos is a feat of strength.

I also included a link to a beginner video on the data editor. I felt that being able to manipulate the units is a lot of fun for a newbie and could be a could hook into the editor.

I moved the text-based tutorials to the bottom of the section so it looks a lot more clean.

[!!] Is there a date/rough date for when the Wiki Link will be switched to the other format?

[!!} Is it possible to make a Beginners section for the New Wiki that is up at the top. I can be in charge of moving links and updating it, but I am unsure on how to make a new tab/section.

posted a message on Briefing Map

    Hey good folks,

I know this is not the right section, but I wasn't sure what forum I should post it in. I want to create a Planet Overview Map for my Campaign. I would like the Map to first show the lay out of the Terrans on my Planets, e.g. cities, mountains, rivers, military bases. I would like to either show it as the Campaign is loading or during mission briefings. As the game goes on, I would want to update the map to show the current Terran controlled areas and the Zerg controlled areas. Any advice or points in the right directions is much appreciated.

posted a message on What would you like to see out of an Arcade website?

    Hey guys,

I would love to see a better Custom Campaign feature on an Arcade Website. I just learned about the Mass Recall Campaigns like 6 months ago because of HuskyStarcraft, then Gradius' Subjection and now I'm onto Amber Sun. I just love playing through a story and I know from the SC2 forums that there is a sizable group of people who enjoy the lore and playing in a campaign like setting. In the Arcade, Blizzard list Subjection as "Other" and that just make no sense. Lots of people buy Starcraft because of the story and being able to play a custom campaign seems like such a cool feature to the game. I know Custom Campaigns wouldn't have the replay-ability as a TD or Undead Assault like games, but hey it would be a sizeable group who, like myself, would want to make their own!!

    @OutsiderXE: Go

Hey guys! Thanks for the advice. I'm trying to keep it as simple as possible. As I get better at this I'm hoping my later episodes will be much more complex.

Gradius. I read your critique of WoL...phew that was some harshness. I played SC1 when I was a kid and just happen to pick up WoL on a whim so I was totally blown away by it. Later, I played SC1 and Brood War in the SC2 engine and was like wait a minute this is even better and there ain't no fancy cinematics. I think you hit the nail on the head with your critique. I'm definitely trying to flesh out a really good story for my Campaign.

    I'll be in touch!

posted a message on [Campaign] Starcraft: Abandonment

    Hey folks,

I've been lurking these forums for the last couple of months. I just wanted to announce that I am trying to make my own campaign! It shall be called Starcraft: Abandonment. I am aiming for 8 episodes about 20 to 30 minutes a piece. I'm about 4 minutes into the 1st episode "Harbinger" and oh my god is it so hard! :) I'm a total newbie at this stuff. I have 0 Programming experience and I am barely PC literate. Anyways, I'm going to be obnoxious and keep track of my progress on a blog. My hope is to inspire other newbie modders into taking the plunge into the editor. Check it out if you got a minute...not much yet.

Oh...still working on the actual flow of the campaign. Probably half installation/hero quest and the other build a base and go! Right now...I'm just trying to get my little guys to talk, fight and check off those objectives!!

    Have fun!! Hock

posted a message on How do I find a general unit type in the Trigger editor?

"specialmarine" is that a unit that is created at the start of the game?? If so, do "set variable" to it right after it is created, then you got it under variables when you go to triggering unit. I think??? Just getting rolling on this stuff!!

posted a message on Iam new what to i need?

    @Rasenregan: Go

    Hi,

I'm just starting out with the editor as well. I've found these to be helpful with getting the basics down. They are a little dated with the editor interface but everything is still pretty clear.

"In Depth Beginners Guide" by NeoDeathXp. Decent tutorial but something is not right with the end of it.

"Starcraft 2 Galaxy Editor Tutorial 1" by genocide. Quick and to the point. Defintely open up with this one. Only 3 minutes long.

[Misc] Beginner Video Tutorial by brcosm

Basic Unit Setup" by Zeroame - Choppy Video...but is a lot of fun. I suggest not doing the Archon but some unit you like.

Also, Blizzard has a nice set of articles on the editor on the SC website. I highly recommend checking those out and working through them.

Hope this helps and good luck!

    Hey folks,

If you are looking for beginner's guide on starting up on the editor, then DON'T watch this!! This dude is super knowledgeable, but he definitely overwhelms you!! You will probably come away just confused and demoralized. Also, the text is way to small even in HD. Start out with the Galaxy Editor Tutorials, . They are old, but only certain things have been tweaked in the editor so you should be okay. Galaxy dude is concise and to the point. Good Luck!!

posted a message on Blizzard's Arcade: Other?

    Hey folks,

I just played through Gradius' Subjection and it was a total blast. A lot of awesome work went into that campaign. I set the game up through the editor so I could save as I was dying a lot. Game was tough! Anyways, I went onto the Arcade to post a positive review and I sadly learned that the game's category is listed as "Other." I don't think I ever would of found this game if I wasn't learning about the editor from this website. I know that the SC2 website has posted a review about it, but those get buried after a while. Also, I only saw it because I was playing it. Is there a movement to get the Arcade maps that are Custom Campaigns listed as their own category? Probably have to have some criteria, but it seems needed. I really enjoy the lore and the campaign as I know so many others do. Ladder is fun, but at the end of the day I rather play campaigns and get immersed into the Starcraft Universe.

Also...the Arcade needs a SAVE function or at least a good explanation of how to load up through the editor.

Here's hoping for more awesome Custom Campaigns!!
