posted a message on SC2Map files can't contain the character "-"

When my map file name contains a hyphen character the editor will not load the map when I double click on the SC2Map file.

I have to use the File -> Open feature from within the editor to open said SC2Map file.

Here's an example name "Test Map - 2013.10.28.00.00.SC2Map"

I need more people to give their opinion if I'm going to make a change I disagree with, actually I updated the Loading Screen hoping people would come and share their opinions, but if it says quiet I have to assume that everyone is fairly content with things the way they are.

We're doing adjustments before we dub the Edition "Platinum" and leave it alone, so the time is coming soon when things will stay the same.

    @Adam

I hope this explanation helps you understand our point of view and how we've been working improve the gameplay in the recent revisions.

    Build Times

From observing games, we've seen a legitimate problem created by allowing players to build massive armies instantly.

Some players choose to place no units and hold on to all of their minerals to lure in enemy players and utilize their cannons to gain a strategic and aggressive income advantage. This is especially a problem early game as every players has 0 upgrades and cannons are equally strong throughout the game.

This is not in line with how we feel the game should be played as it's really not fair to new players since there's not even an indication a player is withholding placing units on the map.

In the near future we're looking to create a ranked mode and having 0 second build times we foresee being a problem with that.

    Other

We've already made two concessions in your favor as we heard about you being upset through the RISK Clans.

    1) Tank Health was changed from 1000 to 750 (although I assure you Tank Health in Brood War - RISK Action Edition had tanks with 750 Health and not 1000). But in any case several patches ago we put Tank Health back at 1000 in case you didn't read it in the patch notes.

    2) We also nurfed build times significantly in Action Edition since they were intorduced, but if you can't handle not being able to amass an army quickly - you should adjust your strategy to include hotkeying multiple territories and setting a common rally point to send new units.

It's good that you posted here so that we can read your opinion on "how things should be" - this is what we want everyone to do. But instead of only being mad you need to offer us a practical alternative to Build Times if you dislike it that much. If we like your idea we're really willing to listen to members of the RISK community - just make sure your idea is complete and not vague.

I realize that change can sometimes be frustrating, but if you want me to listen to your opinion - you need to either let my informant ElWarOfRa know, send me a message on StarCraft, or post it here directly.

Somehow I get feel that "Legacy of the Void" will be like the "Klingon Stovokor", a place you go when you're dead as a Protoss.

I could see Blizzard being like "See! We sure fooled you guys! Fenix is actually alive!" In fact, if they're stupid enough - they'll to try the whole Matrix / Jesus thing. It'd fill the role perfectly - either that or they'll just make Kerrigan kill herself to save the universe - which will be lamer than down syndrum.

Why did Keriann let General Warfield die? A queen is supposed to be manipulative and intelligent - she should have told him he had to agree to "give himself willingly" and infest him making him a invaluable source of information, in exchange she would let "his men" escape.

She could have even had tactical insight into the fact that Mengsk was keeping the Xelnaga Artifact (The most deadly weapon against Zerg in the universe) in his office - where she was going.

Did we really need to be reminded that Kerrigan was "noble" thereby making her a hero in HoTS after she had killed millions of people. Her entire backstory including her killing her parents is polar opposite of her letting terrans go and live - especially without a good cause.

Most intelligent military leaders wouldn't throw away an asset like that.

It was a good play. It took 9.5 hours and no sleep.

The first 1/3 of the game was really good, the gameplay was great, the cinematics were really well done - but the story lacked substance and make mistakes at certain points.

    == Here's some things I noticed ==

White La Forge from Star Trek makes it into a portrait :)
    SC HoTS

I thought that Mengsk keeping the Xelnaga Artifact in his office was really dumb. In WoL the artifact would create a shockwave that cleansed a huge area kindof like the XelNaga Temple in SC1 when it turned the protoss homeworld into a desert. In HoTS all it did was electrocute Kerrigan in a lame way without turning her back into human. Mengsk lighter only had one button on it and it didn't create a shockwave.

Also - why did the command office explode after Mengsk died? 0_0

A better plot twist would have been if the zerg got a hold of the artifact and modified it to "cleanse the terran".

    --

And finally @ the very end Kerrigan makes it obvious that she can make objects float across short distances or even up into space.

(Which buzkilled the ending and reminded me of)

    Zelda OOT:

FFX - Titus can Fly too

Why didn't she simply make Jim Raynor float across that tiny bridge when they got separated in the beginning?

She has the ability to lift up marines and tanks straight from the beginning of the game.

It's odd but HoTs gameplay reminded me of StarCraft and StarCraft Brood War more than Wings of Liberty did. It was a fun play.

Edit: Yeah it worked, thanks soo much! I don't know how that got enabled. The variables are back to normal.

This latest patch completely removed the use of ASCII, spaces, and anything but uppercase, lowercase and undscore characters from the naming convention of Functions, Triggers, and Variables.

I for one use language to convey meaning and understanding - and it completely baffles me as to why they took my good thing and thew it in the garbage.

When you have 40 function, 30 variables and 50 functions - prefixing things with asterisk
"** Timer Chain | Give Player Incomes"

Is a million times more "Human Friendly" than

    _timerChainGivePlayerIncomes

This is a visual editor Blizzard! The idea that it doesn't appeal "Visually" is like how Windows 8 took the start menu and gave us the finger!

They're cutting off my balls! WTH Blizzard!

Decompress a copy of the map archive with MPQ Editor into a folder, locate and find the text file that has your variables. Open with Notepad++ , Ctrl+H Find and Replace, Save & Close, Recompress into a new .SC2Map file. Assuming I understood what you were trying to do.

    @A52BcE:

The number of syntax errors in your function example made my day!

Galaxy's Data is formed in what is known as XML - "Extensible Markup Language" and it's designed to be a "Markup Language" like HTML. Any good programmer will use his brain to build bridges in order to accomplish any task that's needed - the limitations of programming are limited to the individual writing the code.

In this case, if you have extensive function calls you need better more modular code that makes use of a chainloader instead of messy and sloppy code.

I suggest you familiarize yourself with C++, PHP, Python, etc... and come back to Galaxy++ with an understanding of MVC frameworks and Object Oriented Programming, also - while you're at it you could use some Hungarian Notation.

I like how the enemy's units are destroyed when they leave. It would suck if the player had 10/10/0 tanks, marines, lings, etc... and then left and they went back to 0/0/0 because they were owned by the neutral player.

In that case the situation would be similar but worse because the most powerful player would just feed on the 0 upgrade neutral player. There's not any simple solution imo - because there's no way to give the computers upgrades / AI with time - that'd create a lot of new problems with balance.

LOL. Next time you open your mouth run it against your internal debugger first.

Only a grade D programmer would fail to see the benefits of C++ / Galaxy++ over XML / Data. In fact, using Galaxy++ guarantees you compatibility with future blizzard updates because the thing that changes in each update is - you guessed it the XML!

Do you fail to see the advantages of a generic function applicable to every unit in existence over adjusting a hundred variables in the data? I hope not!
