    posted a message on [Blender] How to create an animated coin model for Starcraft 2 with Blender

    It has been a huge while maybe, but I'm coming back with an ancient old question (at least for me)

    Since the tutorials oon this site have mainly al vanished I'm forever at a loss.

    I really, really, REALLY need a tutorial or something to figure out the hell I can actually make animations on meshes or just any type of random movement as I please.

    I've looked very long and hard at a Pylon Placement model the figure out out that damn laserline walks downwards on the model but I don't understand a single thing of it. Its not even particle related, its something between mesh/material and texture, and from my understanding it "moves the UV map in Y direction" to make it look like the laserline is moving... but I can't find a single decent way how that is done with our specific .m3 models??!!??!??!?

     

    Is anybody around still who knows this?

    I'll appreciate basically any help, but please dont come with an answer such as "it done in the dope-sheet (or what have you) about 500% more details are really needed here.

    What I usually do is: make the respective meshes your work by changing the object mode to edit mode, go ingo the UV editor, and open the texture diffusethat is needed. It will give an idea of the overal look. Warning however, it doesn't show emissives and particle effects like in the sc2 editor.

    Just a quick update. Working on the Dark Templar unit, which in Talon will be known as the Acolyte.

    Attached is a preview. 'She's nearly done, some work on the textures still. But her design is overall complete.

     Thanks man! Personal opinion: Try giving it an awesome beam-attack with turret rotation setup in the editor. I think it makes the Vaporizer even more badass :)

    The Disruptor I release a version in its current state. Maybe I will create another version that features some more plating, but I'll have to see.

    Hi guys,

    I'm pleased to announce work is in full swing again. First off two more Talon weapons of war have entered the battlefield.

    Talon Vaporizer

     

    Talon Mothership Core

     

     

    Furthermore I've been working on the Mothership, attached below a first-impression. Its not yet fully complete. some effects aren't working as I want them to. But I wouldn't want to withhold a preview of the work so far. Next to the Mothership I've been cracking heads on how to tackle the Disruptor. The actual model doesn't allow loading into Blender making it difficult, but I found some surprising abilities within the Sentry and used some parts of both that and the Oracle to create a makeshift Disruptor-like design. Its still very basic (and not yet sure how detailed I want it to be).

    But some progress there.

    Announcement!

     

    I know there's people waiting for the last remaining units to be created in Talon skin. Please know I have not forgotten. To fully support Multiplayer combat designs are on the way for the Disruptor, Dark Templar, Mothership (& Core).

     

    When these are complete I will release a complete multiplayer unit pack with all the basic units. Next to this I will release a pack with alternate variations of game-unit based on the skin-change option. (1 variant is currently planned per chosable unit-type)

     

    Last but not least I already have some unique unit design ready (i.e. Golem), these will then also be packed as a 'special unit pack'.

    The funny thing is that at first I was looking into ways of "how to make it look different, yet familiarly equal.I'm also very glad with how this worked out :)

     Haha, yeah its going pretty fast now. But I'm not done yet :D Still some awesome models that need to be made, not to say anything about seeking out the wild side of modeling :)
    I'm also already having some fun ideas for alternative models and stuff. But when the cosmetic overhaul is done, I can turn it into a mod that swaps out the Protoss models. And ultimately.. a nice mission map to provide some good featuring. That should prove interesting getting my mapskills up a notch :P

    First off I'd like to give attention to a small fix.

    For most buildings a Powerup effect runs whenever the building receives a powerfield.

    I have however forgot to enclose the texture for several buildings already uploaded.
