posted a message on Editor in real life

I don't have any person experience in this, but I know that guy who made the mod for Skyrim got a job at Bethesda. I think he actually wound up working somewhere else, I don't remember.

But as far as I can tell, it would be just like any other portfolio. It shows what you can do. So yes, I would say it would definitely be beneficial, but how beneficial would be definitely up to the company and the quality of the map. I would think that they would also want original code examples in the portfolio as well and a decent degree, but again, just speculation.

posted a message on Need to deprotect a map, any helpers? PM me.

I would like to make my own note really quick. I was reading through posts and got bored about half way through, so I apologize if this has already been covered.

At any rate, a SC2 map is not analogous to a book. It is analogous to a program. Everyone may have access to the same tools, and for the most part people are willing to help you accomplish something. However, if it is something that is specific to one in particular map, chances are you aren't looking for some sort of broad idea, and are looking to copy something.

In other words, learn how to learn. Once you get to that point, you can literally do anything. I have gotten to the point where I am confident that I can make pretty much any map I want with little trouble. Lack of time is what is preventing me from doing so.

The ONE thing that has stumped me is how the dynamic pathing in Warships was accomplished. I wouldn't even know where to start. But there is a reason for that. That is a unique feature of that map. It is what makes it special, and what makes it popular. Why should someone automatically have the right to copy that?

So instead of answering your question, I am going to give you an alternative. Do what everyone else here does, and learn for experimenting and tutorials. Lots of maps are open source, so you can look at those. But even if you THINK that you are looking at a map for only learning purposes, you are going to wind up copying something. It is the author's choice whether or not they want you to be able to do that.

Anyways, I think I've said enough. Good luck.

posted a message on Trying to compile a list. (Completed)

45+ is A LOT to release at the start, or at all. I mean, even Starcraft itself doesn't have that many, and games that do have that many usually took a really long time to come up with and perfect their list. I don't know what your game is, but I would perfect the game itself first, then work on how many characters are going to be in it.

posted a message on What's happening?

Well, I for one tend to take long breaks from actively working on SC2. I check in on SC2Mapster 3-4 times a week, but I'm not actively working on anything. One common misconception is that I have abandoned my project, when I have not. It isn't that I've lost interest either, it's that other things came up in life that have taken precedence for the moment. Last year I was focusing on trying to get into college. Now I'm focusing on figuring out "how to college". Once that's figured out, then I think things will take off again.

Another thing is that over my years on SC2Mapster, I have noticed a steady wave of activity spikes. It doesn't really seem to correlate to anything (I mean obviously HoTS was the exception) besides the time of year.

Here's my opinion: Yeah, he does a lot of good. But by acting the way he does, he prevents other useful members of the community from contributing because they are too busy dealing with his BS. And to top it all off, he is a massive pain in the rear, and creates a negative atmosphere in the community.

    So... no.

posted a message on Open Sourced Maps List

I have an idea as well. Everyone has that first map (or couple of maps) that were made when they were using how to use the editor. They, to put it plainly, suck. I think that open source is a great idea, but if people were to fix up some maps to show a "how to and how not to do something", I think that would be very useful. I'm not sure how it would be navigated, but it would be interesting.

He worked on my map, and I can honestly say that it is amazing. His best trait is that he works very fast, and it still looks amazing.

Yes, you are right. THIS IS NOT A TROLL. You know what? You're right. This guy just deserves a high five! In the face. With a chair.

You are probably right. I still find it important to let this ass hole know that what he said was not okay.

I left out B2 and W2 because I ran out of poll options... I guess I'll clump Emerald, Platinum, and Crystal into their respective generations.

And I suppose I will add in Pokemon Colosseum. I agree that it was an amazing game. (The cutscene at the beginning where the main character blows up the hideout when stealing the snag machine is still one of my favorite cutscenes of any video game ever)

I was curious to see whether people enjoyed the "3rd wheel" of every generation, or if they liked the original 2. I personally have always been fond of picking one of the first 2. For me, it went Blue -> Silver -> Sapphire -> Diamond -> White. I still haven't played White 2 or Black 2. But I'm getting X when it comes out, and I will eventually get White 2.

There becomes a point where "trolling" isn't trolling any longer. Believe me, I have seen what 4Chan is capable of, and most of it makes me laugh. But this is not okay.

Trolling has become "saying controversial stuff to make people mad". That is NOT trolling, as much as people want it to be. Trolling, believe it or not, takes some skill. For example. Taylor Swift had a contest. Whichever school got the most votes she would perform at. 4Chan got a school for the deaf to win. THAT is trolling, is clever, and is hilarious. Saying "I hate Jews lol y u mad bro" is not trolling, it's immature.

Again, I'm not offended. I'm simply saying that what was said is not okay.

Le'ts pretend that "the Jews" did kill Jesus. Okay. So that puts all Jews into that category.

Hitler was Christian. The Westburo Baptist Church is Christian. Oh, but those are exceptions. Have you ever considered that the Jews who killed Jesus were exceptions, too? I live in possibly the most Jewish area there is. My school is 95% Jewish. By insulting Jews, you have insulted most of my friends and their parents. ALL of which are better people than you will ever be.

So. Am I offended? No. Am I very scared for the safety of the people around you? Yes.

You are in a lose-lose situation. If you are being serious, you need help. If this is a troll, and you think this is funny, you need help. So. GET HELP.

I wish they would stop adding new Pokemon. I wish they would just improve the game and story, while keeping the same Pokemon. Maybe add a couple of new ones, but adding 50+ Pokemon every new game is a bit ridiculous in my opinion.
