And that is the problem! I do not know when it is shooting at me because it has impossible turning and turns to me behind my back where I cannot see it and when I am forced to fly away from it due to a combination of excessive additional enemies firing upon me and needing to gain some distance for another strafing run. I then get hit by 4-5 of its mega blasts which remove most of my health. Sometimes It does not even aim at me, I am hit from behind by it shooting at someone else while I am gaining distance.

Well there's a few strategies I can offer (as someone who has soloed it on heroic level 10):

    • Gain distance when it is doing the lines of death or whatever.  Since you can A/D dodge it's normal attacks at range, and it does 2-3 rounds at most before lines of death.
    • Fly directly away from it (not at an angle).  Keep the little arrow that points out where the boss is DIRECTLY behind you (that way it's on your 6, and you maximize your speed away from it.
What tank? You mean the other two players who dropped some time ago who did not take a tank character? Or maybe I should go tank at level 1 as I have not got around to levelling up alternative characters for now.

    Your map

My map? I'm just disagreeing with ya.

has major problems with player retention on the US servers. Half of the games lose half the players before the first mission is even done. For example two guys ran into a flame trap, died and then almost immediatly dropped before I got to them to revive them.

I have not had people drop that early actually.  Or die that stupidly really.

The second half is some good ideas, I hope the devs take those and add them.

I strongly recommend revising/removing the space ship battle mission. It feels very unpolished compared with the other missions.

During the first part of the mission one can constantly dock and undock to full heal, making it very easy. During the boss battle of the mission one cannot full heal making it insanely hard.

Disagreed, there is a bunch of tricks that can make the boss much easier.

There is no minimap. Camera Z cutoff means that you can end up left inside a black void devoid of any discernible features and completely disorientating. Flying against the edges of the arena results in a sudden and uncontrolled flip that is completely disorientating and will more often than not get you hit. Most hits you take will come from behind as when flying away from the boss you cannot see who it is shooting at and how it is facing.

Don't fly away from the boss while he is shooting at you.

The number of missiles flying during the first part at any given time is such that game performance (frame rate) is more often than not a problem. The bosses look visually unpolished as they are missive ships yet can near instantly turn 180 to lock onto the player. Let us not forget that the mechanics themselves are out of place as all your experience grinding, gear grinding, class abilites etc seem to be worth nothing as you are in space ship for the entirety of the mission.

If you must keep the space ships then consider making them control the same as heroes with a top down view, cursor target attack and wasd movement. This would feel much more in place and fix most of the issues without needing to change the mission too much.

Otherwise consider changing it so that you shoot stuff on foot or in turrets from the space platform. This way your gear and levels come into effect. However this might make the mission too generic.

The one zealot boss who is potentially a playable character (forget his name) has a seemingly undogeable attack for most classes making it impossible to do with less than 3 players. Specifically when he charges at you his movement speed is faster than most characters without a sprint and he cannot be knocked back either so he is guaranteed to land at least 1 melee hit on you. For most classes on heoric, especially ranged DPS, a single melee hit of his knocks off a good amount of life. This is based on observations at Heroic 1 (lowest heroic mode) and a level 11 hero with appropriately levelled gear (not that low level). Obviously at level 30 with level 30 gear he is likely no problem at Heroic 1 however one should not be doing him at just Heroic 1 then...

Don't know much about the zealot boss to comment.  I would try to position your tank better.

The first mission can be exploited to get reasonably high levelled gear at a low level. Due to the nature of the mission and type of mobs encountered it is very easy to run it at Heroic 10 (max difficulty) with characters around level 5 to get level requirement 17-18 items. It does not even take that long to do if one has the right balance of heroes (constant double damage debuff on boss).

Strongly agreed.  In fact you can do it solo with a char at level 4.

Yeah u are right about supernova. I didnt think about that at all.

But story wise it just sounds more interesting if it set differently. Would you like to read just one genre? Mixing it up and changing it is what gives it excitement and intrigue. We could have Ued comback, or a new mysterious enemy (race even?).

Problem: then how do you fight all three enemy races in that co-op? Do you have 3 enemies we can fight?

So much and what do they give us? Amon? This one-dimensional paper thin persona. I didnt enjoy this silly character and they keep insisting as if he is a masterpiece like citizen kane or titanic.

I seriously doubt they've insisted that.  He's not even mentioned at all in Stetmann's or Donny's mission in fact, and it's pretty rare that he's mentioned in other missions.  There are 3 missions that I can think of that he's name-dropped a ton (rifts to korhal, lock and load, void shuttles) (if you think he's everywhere in co-op, you don't actually play any co-op).  He's more of a villain that exists for the armies he haves, rather than a villain on the field.

IIf glorn can deliver a map that he envisioned i rather he gets employed at blizzard.

Or he gets disqualified because it's a map that violates multiple principles.

Thank you for pointing out that I was very clear in getting my point across.  I am sure there are some people a little slower than you who may not have picked up on it.

Reading the 3 pages of "rules" set forth, I do not believe there are even a dozen possible variations of map that can fit within those insanely strict guidelines.  In my opinion, it goes against everything that RTC is; and comes off more as an application to blizzard.  "Look, I can make something exactly like the 50 other things just like this that blizzard has made."

I am against it.  I am so against it, that I would like to make a map the fits the criteria just enough that they have to test it; and show that just about anything can be better than playing 50 do-overs of the same mission.

     What?
There are like 3 major limitations:
    • Maximum mission length: Missions should not go longer than 40 minutes.
    • Do not use mechanics which rely on specific commanders to function.
    • In terms of story, these missions take place during the war against Amon. This is after the second mission of Legacy of the Void, but before the Epilogue.

Everything else seems like good rules to follow in general while making maps, or rules to keep the map simple and clean.

    Quote from Aha234>>

Well said Glorn i applaud you for your attitude. I feel the story has been quite generic in co-op. It will get repetitive after some time anyway! :D nevertheless why do the rules state: Story must be set bewteen Lotv mission one towards the epilogue?? Who ever did anything creative in life at least once will recognize that: if u put restrictions on yourself you are limiting your ideas.

And the mission mechanic has been stale as well. I miss the days when blizzard make creative maps like supernova and rest. Now its all: fetch this, destroy that. A kid of 10 years of age can come up with that.

I hope u do well and win the contest. Spark some flame into blizzards lame a**es!!!

The problem is missions like supernova would be much better for some commanders like terran than zerg or toss, who would have to rebuild their structures at every major base.
Why do the rules state where the story must be set there?  What exactly is wrong with a common theme between all the maps?

But another taldarim mission? 🙃 Nôt on slayn

Who says that the Tal'darim are limited to Slayn?  As WoL (and the Nova campaign) proved, the Tal'darim have plenty of other planets.
...Besides, no one's going to mind if you stretch the lore a bit for visuals.

What about something similar to the 1st mission on Char in WoL.

Limited resources, Rescuing troops in the beginning to build up an army and then completing some objective...slay the big boss

Tell us more...  what kind of troops?  Generic placeholders (and do these take supply), or specific commander units (and how do you prevent late-game commanders from steamrolling with them)?

Yea...like you are fighting on aiur and closing void rifts for example...or on ice cold planet? or vespene planet? :D

Does it matter what planet it will be? Like taldarim camps or idk...terran camps? or research planet ? something important .... hmm

I don't think it particularly matters what you do, as long as you can tie it in to Amon somehow.
Stetmann's mission is an example of tying a pretty irrelevant objective into Amon.

    * what is this:

Be mindful of additional UI, each race has its own UI restrictions (top bar for Protoss, hero panel
    for Zerg, etc.)

like what? I thought that these ui are already in coop..or coop temple which is coming soon.

It's saying to keep those in mind while designing the map.  For example, let's say there's an objective where you have to chase something and it stops at the edge of your screen.  Top bar players may have issues there.

I think it just needs to be set in the SC Universe- "The game must be set in the StarCraft Universe," from the rules.

It would really set your map apart if you didn't use the AMON theme...I think a lot of people on the coop train are hankering for a map that isn't related to Amon...me included.

    I am willing to test!!

"By following these guidelines, you will be increasing the likelihood that you'll receive positive marks from the judges who review your entries."
"In terms of story, these missions take place during the war against Amon. This is after the second mission of Legacy of the Void, but before the Epilogue"
I think the Amon thing is required to keep co-op mission similar thematically.

    Yea...I will need some ideas.

First quesiton: It must be mission from lotc or I must make own terraining with own objective and it doesnt matter if its misison from lotc?

    It must be own?

You should be good as long as you can convert it into an "end war" (war against Amon) story

What is the point of giving the caster shields on death if they are dead?

Well you can make it so that enemies/friendlies that you've casted the ability on/attacked/stood near give you shields on their death.
