There is many ways to make it looks like an indoors. You know, you can modify the setting of a doodate to make it be 500% by 500% (max) by 10% (min) of height. It will become a kind of platform that you could use as a ceiling, like I did in my video with the Arches. The only problem, is to find a doodate that have a face under it, to don't see throught an invisible face.

Here is one example. I used "Xel'Naga Halo" to creat the ceiling. To make it looks more close, like a bubble, I added the "Zhakul'Das Bridge". There is no face under, but the light effect still appear, so I kept it. I've tested with a units, it's a brige so units walk over, but this is something editable in the Data.

You know... I'm still a beginner. I still really suck at triggers... And making videos use triggers! So mostly, I use Creat Revealer, Apply Camera Object and Wait. The rest... is just terraining. But, I want to be very very good using trigger that make units move, special visual effect, make picture appear or whatever etc.

I got an idea of WTE, it's pretty simple and fast so it will probably last only a week, except if there is not many people participing.

For the subject, it free, you do what you want. But, the only thing is... to set the map bound to the smallest (32x32) At this size, you must take care how you place your things. If you put water, you must think about that big shitty water square that often get into the way where we don't want.

Here is an example I've made in about a hour. Notice there is 2 type of water; the lava in the middle and the water in the corner.

We could also make a map that creat a face. Um, that when you place the building and the effects you can see something that is not represented by the units/terrain...etc. An image in an image. (Don't know if you understand what I mean...)

Yes I know... I must deal with this, my comp isn't the best one. It play easily sc with the ultra settings, but if there are too many units or effect or the point of view see the whole map, etc. I'll will lag alot. And to do my video, I don't want to records them into low graphic you know >.< So I do my best to make it lag the less possible. Like make the units be smaller, start with a smaller map and if needed change the bounds, take care of the point of view, and "if it the point of view lag in the editor, it will in sc2".

Those things I did not take care of during my firsts cinematics. But for the WTE ex, it is a very small map. That's why it doesn't lag.

If I really need to make a kind of battle and my comp lag too much, I'll probably make a friend of mine record it. He has a very better computer. (He sometimes plays sc2 with the 3D vision >.<) But, until my videos are not satisfying me, I wont ask for his help. Only when my video / map / idea will be very great, that I'll ask him to record it for me.

I have done a few cinematics until the release of Starcraft 2. I have not played that much with the editor to know many of it functions, but I'm able to do at less a video. So here is, sorted by the gayest to the best :P

    Playing with one trigger >.<

Ok. I think I'll do your idea, to make my own post. But once I've done some of the older WTE's, I want to have a link somewhere in here that refere to it.

Also, what do you mean by "folks"? And as an aside question: do you speak french, if you're in the EU server? As a last question, is there a way to get email from post that had a reply?

When I look at all those, that I have not participate except the 24, I want to try them all one by one! XD Caus all those are great idea. Like make the best terrain without doodates, hide a marine (but those were too hard though, I would do something easier), underwater (very nice idea)... etc.

Just a question, can we keep posting on the older WTE?

So, if you need an idea, I can probably find one too. But this night I must go. Probably this weekend or something like that I will try to find an idea that could be interesting.

posted a message on Weekly Terraining Exercise #24: The great indoors

Here it is! My Zerg indoors. There is alot of things we don't always see at the first look, but there is falling rocks, the hot effect for the lava, smoke, the flying orange things, etc. There is something like 3-4 hours of work, I'm not sure though. I don't count them. I don't like to put only one picture of a great work, so here is, as I always do, a short clip of it. Notice there is still some work to do with the fluidity of the camera and some collisions, but mostly correct.

What do you think of it? :P

posted a message on Weekly Terraining Exercise #23: Let's make a map, Mapster!

This is a real great work. I don't know how many hours are in this if we count everyones' work time... It's really nice.

But, I want to make you notice many flying rocks and also a mine entrance (at the top left)

Also, we must think about we are going to make an RPG and we will walk around, looking at the Terrain design, etc. When people look at the terrain, they want to find bugs or things they shouldn't see... Like some borders in the map, I imagine someone moving his Marine or w/e, and see the end of the map... This aint really good. For example, top left, near the flying mine, there is a road that pass near a place where the ground lower next to the border of the map, making easy to see the end. If we look at the Camera border, and that place, we can see that it will be possible to see the background and the end of the map.

Finally, there is exacly no pathing done. Except for some places, made with dynamic pathing like for the creep. The rest must be done. "H" is the shortcut for pathing, and there is none. And, through all the Doodate used, there is probably some without Pathing in them, what could be kinda bad if the person playing try to find bugs... (Don't say nobody do that, I do.. and I find bugs in other maps)

So, nice work, really, but there is still some things to fix to get a "perfect" map.

Note: this could be great also if we change some of the car/truck/moto into units that could be interacting during the RPG.

Mozared, where is your next WTE? (If it's created...)

posted a message on Walking under Bridges

I always think that there is a way to "fake it" like some people said. Even if most people dont think it is possible.

So here is my "test" solution. I'm way not the best in the editor, I still begin with the editor (there is so much to learn...) But I think (with lots of time) I could make a marine pass over and under a bridge.

How? Using behavior. First you make the brige dont have any effect on the units. So you "can't" walk over. After, just in front of the bridge befor passing over, you make the unit get a behavior that change his heigh to the heigh of the bridge (after some test >.<). When he reach the other side, you make it come back to normal. So, the unit would have "pass" the bridge, but was technically flying. To make it pass under, you just let him pass under! It wont effect with the bridge.

I already see a problem comming up. How the marine will move over the cliff caus of the pathing? You could change that it fly or something. Make the behavior do the x,y,z effect so it works. I've never used behavior though. After this, it will be to test how the units under the bridge react (like while attacking) with units over the bridge. Again here, the behavior could be a solution.

Anyway, I never tryed behaviors but, I played alot with bridges and saw my marine jumping on the bridge on a side and comming back to the ground on the other side... etc.

So, could this work? Yes possibly, no caus of... I don't know... What do you think?

posted a message on Forums fonctions

Is there a way to use the communs fonctions of forums in this one? For example: see the new posts, see our messages, see the unanswered posts... etc?

Also, that would be great if there was a Chatbox (I didn't search for it though, possibly that it is alraidy existing) But, optimally, with Channels. Caus I'm sure that many people would use it and when you try to speak to someone when many people speaks of their day, it's kinda annoying. So, with channels, that could refere to the forum seperations: Data, Terrain, etc. it would be great.

    Thanx!

It doesn't work for me or Scbrood and we both have EU.

I got US version >.< (Notice that it is not only the US though, but all the North America) And it is working. Thanx for the "V" Notice that if it change your lightning setting, it's because you was in editor lighting or with none. To change this you can use "L" or in View -> Show Ligthing -> choose what you want.
