posted a message on Easy way to browse models and animations?

It seems super inconvenient to look through the models and animations in the editor. The search bar in the top left of the cutscene editor doesn't even seem to do much, depending on what you type in. It certainly doesn't produce a reasonable search result for most of the stuff I type.

What is the easiest way to browse through the models and see their animations?

I've been looking through some of the models in the list, but the list only shows models that have a data entry, right? If I have imported graphics or something, it won't show up at all until I make a model data entry for it?

posted a message on questions about basic unit properties

I haven't found any recent starcraft editing tutorials, and google searches for the following haven't provided answers. In the "unit properties" box, what exactly are the following:

"unit type" and "defines default values" ?

    "show non-default" ?

Ok, the mpq editor solved the problem. And the other problem that I had briefly was fixed the next time I saved and closed the editor then restarted. So all is well now, thanks!

This is what casc view shows me when I open my maps directory. It doesn't resemble the actual maps there at all. How do I open the map with casc view?

You need a program called Casc View, which everyone links to me every time I ask a question. A google search for Ladik's Casc View definitely brings the page up as the first result.

Anyway, you can find the directory by placing the unit on your map to see its name, then opening the data editor and looking at that unit. Click its actor and the graphic file will be listed among a gazillion other pieces of info in the right panel. If you already knew its name, then all that was unneccessary.

Then open the Casc View program, you go to Starcraft's data folder, it will be in one of the Blizzard's main wings of liberty, swarm, or void mods. Probably check wings of liberty ones first. Look around until you find it and copy it somewhere handy. You may have to close out starcraft and the editor before casc view will work.

I can't find a way to open the map with cascview; it just opens the starcraft directory stuff. The map editor won't import reserved file names. And I can't find a way to edit those files in the map editor either. You lost me at "reimport". If there is a way to do that, tell me how!

posted a message on How do I transfer reserved text to map?

I have those 3 files that I would like to put in the map, I got them out of voidmulti mod, and in using them I won't need the voidmulti dependency but I'll still have whatever tooltips and such people expect when playing multiplayer. The xml files I transferred over by copying the text and pasting into the xml window in the editor for each thing - units, actors, etc. There doesn't seem to be a window to paste text for the txt files though, and it won't let me rename, replace, or modify the existing txt files upon creating a new map.

(I do want the contents of the existing files from the map in there too, but that is easily copied onto my text files to create a combo, so either the ability to import them or the ability to edit the existing ones will do.)

Also, some of the files that I moved over from the voidmulti mod, the trigger files, came out of "base.sc2data/triggerlibs folder(don't remember exact capitalization), so I wanted to put them in the same place in the map. The map already has a "Base.SC2Data" folder. But when I try to put them in there, it instead creates another folder tree (named "base.SC2Data") right underneath the existing Base.SC2Data folder. I have typed it in many many times trying to move the trigger files to the right directory and it just puts them in a separate one every time. Is there some special character or a number that looks like a letter or something in the default existing directory?

I'm having another problem now too - I try to move files into Base.SC2Data folder within the map but instead it just puts my files into a new folder, called base.Sc2Data, not capitalized.

I have gamestrings.txt, objectstrings.txt, and triggerstrings.txt that I would like in my map, but I can't import them because they are reserved. Also, I do not see a convenient place to paste the text like the data editor has for the xml files.

How do I transfer the information on these 3 files?

Azureguy solved this in another forum. There was apparently a bad version up for a few days that is now fixed, even though the version number is the same.

I am thinking I want to make a mod, but I don't want to commit to such a large project without complete tools, and so far all casc view does for me is show unusable unknown files and folders. Artists must use the casc viewer often, so I hope someone here knows what causes it. Changed from windows 8 to 10 and this behavior is unchanged. Replying to this post with picture.
