posted a message on Terran Control Tower

Hi guys! You all remember the old starport attachment, right?

I've been working on this model some time just for the sake of learning. I managed to get the original structure feeling while adapting it a little to the StarCraft II style.

    Includes:

    • Models: normal, placement, death and death detached.
    • Textures: diffuse, normal, specular, emissive. Also has TC and animated holo texture. Moreover, I provide the button and wireframe images (thanks to Soulfilcher).
    • Animation: stand, attached start/end, working, build... Death animation (normal) includes some physics to give variance.

Here's a test map for you to try the model. Later I will upload the assets to sc2mapster.

Thanks to everyone who helped me out and gave feedback. Without you guys, I couldn't have made it.

My god, I'm very interested in playing this. 30+ missions is what original HotS should have been. Plus the ideas for the new missions/unit/spells etc are great.

Are you planning to include some old buildings like, let's say, Defiler Mound?

I think this was posted in the Blizzard's Art Tools forums, wasn't it? I only can say thay the model is epic.

Maybe I would personally leave the model static (not with the up & down balancing) and show animation with lightning effects in the couple of "poles" that come out in each side. In working animation you can intensify that effect.

    Thanks man.

Yeah! I really recommend going into 3Ds Max 2011 it's a great program and for what I heard it's also the standard at blizzard (or at least the one blizzard developed the upcoming art tools, as Iggnight said before)

I have recently started digging in these forums and playing with the editor too. You know, you will learn lots of things around here, there is a nice wiki and tutorials section. And you will be amazed with SoulFincher, Zolden, Leruster, Ghostnova and many many other's work.

posted a message on (Solved) Upgrading to autocast ability

I've created a dummy button. The real button is hidden with use + show requirements. The fake button is under the real one in the command card. How do I make it greyish (the fake one) and display the requirements?

EDIT: Nevermind, figured how to do it. Now this is it! Thanks!

posted a message on (Solved) Upgrading to autocast ability

    Hi!

I'm doing some tryouts with the data editor, enabling blocking some abilities for terran tech tree. I've started a test map with campaign depencencies, and I want to make the Science Vessel Nano Repair ability upgradeable. All is set, except when the ability is not upgraded autocasting in the grey shaded icon is still enabled. Is there any way to set it off at first and then enabling the autocast on upgrade?

    Thanks.

@XibadivS: Go PM them, don't be afraid to offer some help. In my opinion more maps should care about localization. If you ever play SC Expanded and want to help with Spanish I'd love the help ;-)

Ohhh don't worry, I was just curious, I'm always curious about art, and possible model re-textures.

Thanks that's what I'm going to do. I wanted to ask first :)

Welcome to SC2Mapster! As a welcome gift, I hereby present you with the permission to buy us all a round of drinks!

Most teams working on big projects will usually take the most experienced person they can find, so I wouldn't get my hopes too high that the SCU crew or anyone like that will add you to their team (A position would have to be freed up in the first place), but newer people like yourself (Or people with less ambitious projects) will generally not have too high requirements :) (Well, Monkalizer just posted offering you a spot ;) ) You can always start your own team and project though :p

Modelling may be a good area to "specialise" in though - there aren't that many modelers around in the SC2 mapping scene, so they're always useful ;)

Anyways, if Monkalizers offer isnt enough for you, keep an eye on the team recruitment forum, and perhaps do some tutorials here and there to expand your knowledge of the editor. (Hero creation tutorials are pretty good ways to learn stuff about the Data Editor - Feel free to skip the Veterancy and Attributes parts though, those are used pretty much only for levelable heroes and nothing else. Requirements, items, abilities, actors, units and other stuff those tutorials walk you through are areas that are frequently used though)

4 posts since I started writing this. I guess going to the bathroom and making some tea in the meantime didn't help. Anyway, GL HF! If you need help with the data editor, feel free to PM DrSuperEvil or me.

Omg really I'm new here and I have to pay the round? Haha, I will be glad to do it. P2P beers or TCP/IP Vodka? :)

Thanks for your advice, like I said at the beginning I knew the forums and I've been around here for some time, but never got into joining any team. I knew the site for its tutorials, but seeing the things I've seen this recent days, I have to do a little more.

I've contacted Monkalizer now, I think for starting its enough :) , but I'll check the tutorial sections from time to time. I think I need it. He seems patient though, so, I think I could be of help.

If I need something specific about the Data editor, I will contact you. ^^

Thanks for the offer Monkalizer, I've sent you a PM.

Anyway, about the SC Mass Recall localization. Should I PM the team? I don't want to bother anyone, but the way I felt playing that campaing... It makes me in debt with them and that I must help someway.

BTW SoulFilcher, sorry that I can't provide you with proof of my almost-non-existant texture skills. Why are you interested?

    Thanks for your answer.

Like I said in the intro, I'm stil a noob in texturing (the first way to learn is beeing sincere). I know the process, I've done very basic texturing but I still need to learn. Let's say I don't have any work to show yet, but I expected that beeing around here could be helpful to me and that some of you may guide me in the right way.

I've done a little modelling though. Basically guns and objects, nothing organic.

I'm interested in starting with some team. The first thing that got my attention is the SC1 remake. Since I'm spanish, maybe I could help the team to localizate it.

Thanks again for your fast kind answer :)

    Hi guys!

I'm a noobish artist, regular reader of this forum but I didn't have the guts to post until now. Don't ask don't tell.

Anyway, I'm pretty amazed with your communnity, and your interest in modding SC. I'm very fond of this franchise, since the BW days, but also a fan of Warcraft RTS games and the first Diablo ones. I've always been interested in creating custom stuff, I did my things in the SC1 and WCIII days, screwing around with the editor. I think I don't have the skills of the average user around here, but I don't lack of learning will.

Some projects got my attention: SC Mass Recall (impressed with the great quality of it), the WC1,2,3, and WoW remakes (very interested in see them playable) and many others. I'm still trying to get how big this community is.

I want to help in anything I can, I have some experience in localization and a little in modelling and texturing. Can you tell me the right way to go?

Thanks to everyone for your time and commitment.
